Dakota gave a small growl and lept out of the cave after his new friend. His paws slipped alittle on the wet earth but he soon found his footing. As his black legs swept over the ground he wasn't quite sure where they were going, but it didn't seem to matter. The trees were brushing by at all sides, and he could feel his think winter coat fluff up in the wind. This was so close to home, he thought. Perhaps this is where I was ment to come.
Dakota gave a quick yelp and pulled out a new burst of speed, attempting to get ahead of Kai sucking in big lungfuls of the cool air as he went

Kai grinned and increased his running speed to catch up with Dakota. The tall conifers around them dripped with the fallen rain and the noise of hooting owls was everywhere. Racing the wind, his black coat shimmered in the moonlight as his hot breath left a trail behind him in the cool night air. He felt like he could run forever and not have to worry about ever fitting in. This seemed to be where he belonged.
He stopped for a moment to catch his breath. Not too far ahead of them he could hear the calm running of water- a river. He wondered if Dakota would mind turning this little jaunt into a full blown dventure. What did they have to lose? "Dakota!" he called ahead, "Hold up for a minute, do you hear the river?"

Coming to a stop Dakota tipped his ears forward. His warm breath was creating a cloud around him but he could definatly hear something. "Yeah I think so", he replyed
Smiling a little he cocked his head in Kai's direction. "Why, what do you have in mind?", he asked with a mischevious gleam to his eyes. He wanted to keep going but didn't know if Kai was up to it. After all they had only met recently and Kai's den was now getting farther behind them. He watched for an answer, hoping for it to be a good one

His golden eyes gleamed as he debated in his mind whether or not he really wanted to leave his home behind...It probably wouldn't be that hard to find a new one...would it? Besides, Dakota looked like he too was thirsting for adventure, how could he let him down? He decided: "I was thinking...about maybe crossing the river?" he proposed his idea. He knew it was a dangerous task, complete cub's folly, but he also knew that taking risks often lead to great things...
((Lame short post...sorry))

Taking a deep breath Dakota thought for a moment. He didn't really know this young Varg and he wondered if he should continue to follow him any further. Then agian Kai had be so nice thus far, and he certinly seemed to be alone.
"Cross the river" he repeated softly. "Sounds great! Lets do it!" With that Dakota's jaws split into a wide grin as he took of in the direction of the gargaling river.

In his mind, he was still a bit hesitant at his own idea, but he ran after Dakota none the less. His parents had always warned him of rushing water, as it could trap a varg's soul if they happened to drown...Vargs show no fear..he kept telling himself. He wondered if this also applied for instances such as this.
Getting to the river seemed to take no time at all. He stopped running when he came to the riverbank and looked on at the rushing torrents, the loud roar filled his ears and seemed to echo around the forest. Coming face to face with the river seemed like more of a bad idea than a good one, now that he was actually here. He looked questioningly at Dakota, then looked back at the river. "Look there! A line of rocks we could cross over like a bridge! That doesn't look too hard, does it?"

Stopping beside Kai, Dakota looked down at the rushing blue water. Suddenly another of Morgra's legands flashed to his mind. " Wolfbane", his wispered. "Wolfbane and Fell". A mornful sound escaped his mouth and he hoped that his new friend hadn't noticed. Doing his best to push the thought from his mind he looked over at Kai. The questioning look on his face made him laugh a bit, and the rythmic sound of the torents was starting to bring back his spirit.
Looking over at the makeshift bridge Kai had pointed out, he was sure they could make it across. "Perfect", he said joyfuly. "After you"

His keen ears had caught what Dakota said about Fell and Wolfbane...something he himself had been thinking about too. He looked half-heartedly at the rushing river, it shouldn't be too hard for him to jump across the rocks. He looked back at Dakota and smiled, though in his mind he had started to wonder why he had thought of this in the first place. He turned towards the river again, and looked up to the sky silently begging Tor and Fenris to get them through this foolishness he had created.
He stepped slowly towards the water, the first rock wasn't too far, though he did have to get his paws a bit wet. After judging his timing, he jumped for the rock and made it, but lost his footing. The water had made the moss on the rock slippery like newly frrozen ice. He managed to regain his footing and when he was sure it was safe, he turned back to Dakota, it's not that hard, c'mon"! He jumped to the next rock to give Dakota room to follow.

Dakota turned his head away from the water and followed after Kai. Why was he doing this he wondered? Every varg is taught from the start about all the dangers of water. "Cub fables", he mumbled. "Its nothing more". "Pray to Tor and Fenris this comes out alright"...he trailed off. Looking across at Kai he shouted "This is an easy jump huh?!"
Backing up a few steps he took the initial leap and thuded hard onto the rocks. One of his legs slipped and splashed into the water. Placing it back on the rock he smiled at Kai and said "Piece of cake". Getting himself ready he took the next leap to bring him closer to the other side

He readied himself for the next jump, then leaped to the third rock, then the fourth. He didn't want to get too far ahead...even though the other river bank was only a few more jumps ahead. "Are you alright?" he called back to Dakota, after hearing him slip. He hoped this journey wouldn't turn out to be the biggest mistake of their lives- or the last. Once again, he shook off his instincts to turn back.
He made the last few leaps that brought him to the other side, and was thankful for the dry, solid ground beneath his paws. He then whirled around to face Dakota, to make sure he would get across okay. Once he did, he really had no idea where to go from there...

Dakota looked across to Kai. "I can do this!" He kept telling himself "I can do this!". "I'm great!" He souted across to Kai. "I'll be joining you in a matter of minutes!". "ok ok ok, just take it slow", he said to himself. Dakota took the next couple of jumps with relitivly no problems. One or twice he had to stop to regain his balance but so far so good. Dakota now stood on the last rock seperating him from the shore. He wondered if Kai could see the slight fear on his face.
Positioning his body he made the last leap and tackled Kai standing on the other side. He knew this was a cubs game, but he had always enjoyed wrestling

Kai laughed, happy that Dakota had made it, and rolled over, pinning him to the ground with his large paws. "You looked like you'd seen Wolfbane himself back there!" Kai said, referring to Dakota's fearful expression. He was sure that he had looked scared out of his fur as well. "Honestly, I wasn't sure we would make it either...but I'm glad we did! Where should we go now?" He asked, stepping off.

Dakota laughed out loud. "I think maybe I did", he said brightly. "That last jump was a big one, but luckaly I had you to break my fall", he added with a smirk.
Hmm, where should we go he thought. There were plenty of places around that would be interesting to explore. But the one that popped into his head seemed to really stick out. "Ever been to the stone castle thats in the legands?", he asked Kai. "Its kinda far from here I think., but there are lots of interesting places along the way that would be fun to see". "So what do you say? Are you felling brave?"
His emerald eyes flashed as he said this. Going to the castle would bring them dangerously close to where is pack had onced lived. Did he really want to revisit this spot? Yet Dakota couldn't seem to keep himself from the urge to continue this adventure

He laughed, "I haven't been much of anywhere. What we just did was probably the most exciting thing I've ever done in my life! But I've never been to the stone castle.." He thought for a moment, of all the old legends of the old castle, the citadel, and Morgra. "Of course I'm feeling brave, that sounds fun" he decided with a smile. "Any idea how to get there?"
He was happy he had finally found a real friend to explore with, even if it was a bit more dangerous than his old lifestyle. ome to think of it, he hadn't had much of an old lifestyle, besides being unsuccessful at catching lera and trying to stay out of the rain. He decided that this adventure was a good idea afterall.

Dakota shook his head. "I haven't been much of anywhere either. I only know about the castle because my family used to be around there" "But I don't remember exactly where it is, as I was even more of a pup back then. I think it is kinda in a northish direction though." "Come to think of it I don't really know where we are at this moment either", he added. "Do you?"
As he said this Dakota wondered if this was what it was like to have a pack, others to travel and explore with. He had been too young at the time to really know what was going on with his family until it was really gone. But he was happy now to be with someone who seemed to share his adventure. He also wondered more about Kai's past life. Although Kai seemed to be a little older than him Dakota hadn't encountered many other black vargs and he wondered what pack his new friend had been a part of and where their territory had been.
