Kai trotted back happily to his den, his fresh kill hanging limply from his jowels. It had started to rain and he didn't want to be caught outside if there was a storm about. It had been suns since he had eaten and he thanked Fenris for his luck this night in catching a rabbit to call his meal. The sky opened up and the rain was pouring now, soaking his dark fur through to the bone. After shaking himself off, he walked inside the mouth of the cave and set his kill down in front of him. He was just about to gorge himself on his prize when he heard a noise coming from ouside the cave. His ears pricked up immediately at the sound of bushes rustling, and it was getting closer. His nostrils were filled with the intoxicating scent of dead rabbit, so he had no way of identifying the creature by smell. Was it a lone varg in search of shelter, or a Balkar ready to tear him to shreds? Maybe it's even Wolfbane himself...he shuddered at the thought. He cleared his mind of these thoughts and held his head high. He was a varg, the greatest putnar in the forest, he had nothing to fear. "Hello?" he called to whatever it was outside. He prayed to Fenris that whatever it was, wasn't looking to gobble him up likein a bad dream.

Taking a small step back the jet black varg looked into the dark area surrounding the cave. Despite his strong bulky frame the young male was no leader and he couldn't help but feel uneasy about the cold darkness aroung him The strong sent of dead rabbit was all around him now and he could already feel his sleek muzzle start to drip with saliva. It had been suns since his last kill and he was now wild with hunger. He tipped his thick ears forward in an attept to hear any movement coming from within the mouth of the cave. When nothing came he knew he had to make his choice fast or the cold would soon claim him. Making a last minute decision Dakota walked straight into the cave and called out "My name is Dakota"

Kai's face had a look of surprise as his features scrunched up and his head tilted slightly. At least it's no threat he thought to himself. The rain was pouring outside and the sky boomed loudly with thunder. Kai bowed his head slightly in greeting. "I'm Kai" he looked down almost regrettably at his meal, then back up at Dakota with his golden eyes. "Are you hungry? You look like you've been wandering a while and I have more than enough here to share" a smile spread over his black muzzle.
((sorry I couldn't think of a better post..))

Dakota stared back with his own bright green eyes. He didn't know what to think. At his young age the only other vargs that he had ever encountered had destroyed his family and driven him to where he was today. As the sound of the growing storm echoed around the cave he was once agian reminded of how alone he was. With a small bow of his head Dakota wispered "Please, I would be honored to share a meal with you"

He tore into the rabbit, the scent of blood grew stronger and filled the cave like a haze. The taste was godly on his tongue as he swallowed a piece of meat. He pushed the rabbit towards Dakota with his large paw. "Help yourself" he smiled, licking his chops. This young varg didn't look like he could be much older than Kai, and he didn't seem to be a part of a pack. Was he truly alone? Kai knew what it felt like to be alone, his own pack had been destroyed suns before by a fire man had let loose on their territory.

Taking a large bite of rabbit Dakota couldn't belive how good it tasted. Who was this young varg he wondered? And why was he so diffrent than the others? He could see that Kai was still wondering about him as well, but yet was so fast to share the kill. Perhaps he had finally met another who was alone? Weraly he dropped down onto the cave floor, still studying Kai. Wrapping his black tail around him Dakota replyed "Thank you very much. Now tell me, how did you come to be stuck in this nasty storm?"

He was glad this young varg was deciding to open up to him. "Well, I'd been wanderign a few suns by myself...I was seperated from my pack by fire and don't think I will ever find them again... They've joined Tor and Fenris in the heavens." His gaze dropped for a moment in remembrance of his family, before gazing up at Dakota again. "I found this cave last night, which was a nice change from the elements," he said, taking another bite of the rabbit. "I went out hunting for the first time tonight and was lucky enough to find this rabbit." He smiled brightly. "What about you? Why were you wandering all alone?"

Dakota shut his emerald eyes for a moment. When he open them agian his whole story came gushing out. "My tale is not all to diffrent from your own", he replyed. Several suns ago my pack was attacked. "They were taken by the way of the Balkar. And they too have joined Tor and Fenris in the sky." Taking a breath he went on "I am all that is left, and I was search for a den when I encountered you" Since their stories were so similar he wondered if Kai too had notice all the stange new and dark changes that the territory had taken on

He was shocked at how similar the two stories were. He motioned to Dakota to finish the rabbit. "Balkar" he said quietly, glad he had never encountered one. As a young cub back in his pack, he had been told tales of Wolfbane and the Balkar, his loyal followers. These stories left a bitter taste on hs tongue as he shook them from his mind. "I'm sorry to hear about your pack. It's nice to have someone to talk to for a change," he said, trying to lighten the mood that was hanging over them like a cloud.

Gratefully Dakota gluped down the rest of the kill and ran his pink toung over his lips. "Thank you he said. I am sorry for yours as well. The Blakar are horrible, but they arn't as powerful as they once were. Morgra isn't here to fill their heads with her rubish anymore. You've heard the stories though I can see, your face has the same disgusted expression.
In an effort to clear his mind he went on " I am glad to have another to talk to as well, the life of a Kerl is lonely". To help lighten the mood he then lifted his dark head and wispered "Ever try out your howl?" His mouth curved into a smooth circle as a deep howl flowed from his lips.

He had only heard of Morgra in legend, but knew she was once to be dreaded as much as any Balkar. While it was true Morgra was no more, Kai still feared of Wolfbane someday finding him and gobbling him up. "Yes, I've heard the stories, but I still wouldn't want to come face to face with one..."
The sound of Dakota's howl filled his heart with excitement as he immediately went to try out his own. He hadn't howled since he had tried to rejoin with his family after the fire, and now his voice rang clear into the night and seemed to echo off the sky. He looked at Dakota with an expression of happiness on his young face and holwed again.

The 2 voices mingled and twisted together as they echoed off the cave walls. "That is one thing that Morgra could not take" Dakota suddenly said. "The Varg sprit!" With that he let out one more defining howl.
"It is good to be happy agian!" he yelped excidedly. Dakota was glad that for at least this moment he could escape the legands and cuses that had followed him all his young life. He took a long breath of air and smiled. He could still hear the howls echoing all around and the sound was the best he had heard in a long time. Turning his head twards Kai he asked "Doesn't that sound great?"

Kai's muzzle opened again for one last, long howl, his whole spirit seemed to exit his body through his haunting voice. The smile seemed glued to his face as he breathed in the refreshing night air, the rain was finally letting up a bit and the full moon was now visible shining bright beyond the clouds.
He looked over at Dakota, his amber eyes shining seemed to be saying, 'I'm glad I finally found a friend'. "Yeah it does!" he yelped. He hadn't felt this good in a long time, all the howling seemed to clear his soul and renew his spirits.

Dakota leaned back and panted a little. He couldn't belive how much this new Varg was lifting his spirits. His whole body was quivering with excitment and energy.
Suddenly he jumpted to his feet. "Come on!" he said. "The storm has slowed a bit, lets go for a run. I need to free myself of all this added energy!"
With that his bright green eyes searched Kai's face for an answer. He wondered what would become of this new friendship

He jumped to his feet and let out a mini-supressed howl at the thought of simply running away. His golden eyes revelead his insatiable thirst for adventure. "Alright, let's go!" He exclaimed, bounding out of the cave onto the damp ground outside. his legs were tense from the pent-up energy this new friend had awoken in him. He whirled around and looked happily to Dakota, waiting for him to follow him out from the shelter.
