Depends on how you look at it.. A spoken language?? heck yeah.. it's dead and long gone. Written.. well we've interpreted it into many modern day languages so in essence it's still alive that way. Besides the fact that high schools and such still teach it.

True true. GO SUDAK GO! *coughcough* *blush* *coughcough* I've always wanted to do that... Anyhoo, it is definitely not spoken many places, though it still used a LOT in churches, science, and some countries as a median where there are many languages spoken. It's definitely alive.

There are people taking latin in my school. Not to mention I think latin is one of the courses you have/had to take it for jobs like ... a doctor. *shrugs*

I don't think it's REQUIRED, but it is definitely a bonus. I think you have to know a little latin to become a priest though, if I'm not mistaken...

Or was just that just a random comment? I know that the Bible is obviously translated into English now, but I did learn that way back when it used to only be printed in Latin and only the Priests/Pope/whoever could translate it. Yay for History! Lol. Until Gutenberg made his printing press.. Yeah, stuff I've recently studied. xD

Well really you need to know tons of languages to translate the Bible from it's original form or forms a little older then the current. I go to a christian college and my professor for one of my bible classes litterally goes back and translates some of the latin and greek..some other languages too I think... I say hats off to those who do that, lol. Mind you this professor was on many teams that have translated books of the more ancient texts into the modern forms we read today.

Which Christan college? There's a real popular one that a lot of people talk about around here, but I think the college is like on the other side of Florida. xD

I'm in Virginia so probably not the one you're thinking of. I go to Liberty University. The chancelor is Jerry Falwell who is very widely known for his interest in politics and such. I've seen him on the news plenty for things like that. I don't agree 100% with everything he says but not many people do.

It Latin isn't concidered "dead" I'd be happy to kill it, after trying to spell and identify all these stupid bugs. Instead of saying "tapeworm" I have to say and spell Dipylidium caninium, or instead of "hookworms" it's Ancylostoma caninum, and then all the types of hookworms such as Ancylostoma braziliense, Ancylostoma tubaeforme, and Ancylostoma duodenale. If you think about it, even the latin names have been replaced, by more simple words such as "tapeworm" or "Hookworm". don't even get me started on those ******* ticks and their names, but even they are more commonly known as "dog tick" and so on.
So, basically, I think Latin is indeed dying.

I think Latin is dying, but not pushing up daisies yet. Because at our Jr. High, they only give Spanish and French classes, no Latin. And plus I rarely hear anyone speaking Latin anymore.
