As the sun rose casting a sea of oranges and reds across the scattered clouds, a adolescent she-varg stretched out her legs outside of the den she and her mother shared. Ebony nose twitching as she stood looking out at the packlands of Deor a small smile crossed her maw, light brown eyes danced with curiousness which used to be shyness. Since being in a pack and having a mother once more Cagalli's shyness had melted away and made room for curiousness which caused her to get into some trouble with other vargs and lera in the forest of Transylvania. Fawn ears twiched at the sound of sparrows chirping off in the distant tree's she yawned shaking out the dust which rested in her tri-hued coat, she wondered what she'd run into today, turning back to the den's opening she wondered if Mist would join her.

The early morning sun shines cheerily into the dim light of the den, revealing the curled up, sleeping form of a lithe, dark grey fae. As the sun touches her with it's gentle warmth, Mist stirrs and removes her tail from it's place over her eyes and standing up, stretches, yawning. She opens her eyes and smiles, seeing the form of her adopted daughter, Cagalli, in the den entrance. Having just woken up, she blinks in the morning light and pads slowly out to the entrance, stopping next to Cagalli. "G'morning dear. Have you been awake long?" Even in the relatively early morning, Mist's eyes glow and sparkle clearly. "Any plans for the day?"

Cagalli turned and wagged her tail as she saw Mist approch her "Not really, I woke up minutes before Fenris began its ascent into the sky" she shrugged thinking about the day ahead and wondered what they could do "Maybe go explore some more....or go for a hunt...since I've never really done that before" she smiled the most the she-varg could catch was fish which was fun but she could only eat fish for so long before she got sick of it.

Mist smiles and the dark tip of her tail starts to wag slightly. "Ah, good. I wouldn't want you up too early, waiting for me too get up." She nods in agreement. "Exploring is always good... and hunting is definitely a good thing to know how to do. I will teach you one of these days - actually, if the chance comes up, I will show you how today."
Yawning once more, Mist shakes herself to get rid of the last clutches of sleep, and then, smiling, looks at her daughter. "Well, we might as well go. Are you ready?" After waiting a moment, she pads gracefully away from the den through the familiar Deor lands, her home for almost as long as she can remember. As the two faes walk, Mist muses on her past for a short while before speaking again. "Have I ever told you about my family, dear?"

Cagalli nodded "I can't wait, to see what today's going to bring us..yeah hunting sounds good" the she-varg smiled. Then she nodded "Once...just names and a bit about your mother...my grandmother.." she wagged her tail slightly at the thought. "I would like to hear about them, since I am a part of it" she smiled once more thinking over the time she spent with Mist in Deor. She'd turned from a shy little whelp into a curious fea who wasn't overly tall but still none the less in one males eyes beautiful. Pretty soon she'd be a year old and so many things have changed but she was glad Mist was there to help her through anything.

Mist smiles and nods. "Well, if I see any potential targets for a meal, I will do my best to show you the best way of hunting them." She laughs lightly at herself and shakes her head. "Well, that was a slightly confusing way of saying a simple thing. Funny how that happens sometimes, isn't it?" At Cagalli's next words she nods again. "Ahh, I remember now. I told you that she was the Drappa, and then that she left a while ago. Well, to expand on my history..." She pauses for a moment to collect her thoughts before continuing. "Well, when I was a very young cub, I lived in a different pack with my family, and... after they were killed by humans, I came here and was adopted by Aztec, my mother, and Graht, my father. I really don't remember anything about my real family other than what I've just told you..."
She sighs, not unhappily... but thoughtfully. Well, Aztec and Graht also adopted Falter and Diyasa, as I've told you. Falter was older than me, and Dias was a bit younger. We grew up together and were very close. Falter just... disappeared one day... and I haven't seen him since... I can't help wondering if he'll ever come back." She looks at her daughter and smiles sadly, the old pain showing in her golden eyes. "Oh well, life goes on... Anyway, a while later, Graht left, and Aztec found another mate... Thunder. Neither Dias or I was fond of him, and it caused a bit of trouble... I think it hurt Mother, but we were young, and not as forgiving as we should have been."
She pauses again and sighs. "Well, after a bit, Thunder left, and Mother had to run the pack by herself. It got too difficult for her, and so she left too. So, there's a short description of my early life. Actually, it was wonderful. Not at all as bad as it sounds..." She shakes herself and, turning to look at her daughter, smiles. "Is there anything else that you would like to know?"

Cagalli turned looking sympathetically at Mist tail wagging slightly as she thought of what to say...then smiled "I won't disappear on you mother, I'm always going to be here if you need me...just like when I was younger you'd be there for me" The she-varg then turned her head forward catching a scent, wondering if it was their potential meal target. She'd have to learn how to hunt better now since she had cubs on the way...she turned to Mist once more "What's it like trying to raise a cub Mist?" She would need all the advice she could get being a first time mother. They weren't due till the early fall but it would still be nice to have some advice now.

At Cagalli's sincere words Mist smiles and nods. "I know, m'dear... and I will always be here for you too, especially in the seasons ahead with your cubs on the way." Her smile widens as she thinks of the cubs and life with them. Her reverie is broken by the scent of a small herd of deer. All of her senses sharpen as she searches for signs of their numbers and defense.
At Cagalli's anxious question, she turns to her daughter and smiles. Shaking her head she replies softly, not wanting to alert the herd of their presence. "Actually, I wouldn't know. I haven't ever raised a cub. If fact, I haven't much been around young cubs..." She laughs softly. "We'll just have to learn as we go, I guess." She turns her attention back to the deer. "Now, about that hunt..."

Cagalli nodded at her mothers response then got more excited upon hearing about the hunt. Turning to Mist for guidance she wagged her tail "what do we do?"
It would be fun to hunt with her mother and also learn how to, she was never good at it, she could catch fish that was it....now she'd learn how to hunt the herla. She wondered if it was the same deer grown up that she had promised to not harm since she had no clue how to hunt...today she'd break the promise and for once would stand proud.

Mist smiles widely at Cagalli's evident excitement and then, at her question, looks around warily, but still smiling. She answers softly, her golden eyes and pricked, charcoal-tipped ears still taking in the deer herd's movements. "Hush, speak quietly, dear. The first lesson in hunting is not to let your prey sense you. If they do, they will bolt and you will probably miss your chance. This is especially important in the winter, because the herla and small animals are extremely wary and frighten easily. If you lose your chance during the winter season, it could possibly mean death." She pauses for a moment, letting the importance of this lesson sink in.
Lifting her nose to the wind, Mist tests it's direction and strength. "Next thing, in order to keep your prey unaware you have to make sure that they are upwind of you. This way, you can tell exactly where they are even if you can't see them, and they won't be able to catch your scent. If you find yourself upwind of them, you might as well search for others. They will catch your scent and be gone in no time... So you make sure that they don't, and they will not find you that way."
She smiles and pauses again for a moment before continuing, still softly. "Along with that, you think of their other senses. I told you of being silent and keeping downwind, the last thing is to be able to get close enough to them without them seeing you. If they do, well... it will be the same consequences. Well, those are the main... I guess you could call them the rules of hunting... oh, another thing. When hunting, you must never take on prey that you cannot handle. For instance, in this herd of herla, there will be young, strong, swift bucks and does, and then there will be the older and younger ones. These are the ones we will be able to catch and kill. Do not try and take down any large animal that is in its prime, you could get injured, and then the kill wouldn't do you much good anyway. You aim for the sick, young or old... ones that aren't able to fend for themselves, and that are easy to kill."
Looking around once more, Mist satisfies herself that the herd is still unaware of their presence. She turns back to her daughter and smiles, looking at her intently. "So, did that all make sense... and is there anything that is still unclear? This is a good time for a first hunt, because it won't be too much of a problem if we miss..." She smiles encouragingly and cocks her head, waiting for the answer.

Cagalli crouched down letting the lesson sink into her mind keeping quiet she thought over and over then checked her positions, like Mist had she looked to her mother. She'd take direction from Mist since it was the two of them and the fact that Mist was a more skilled huntress then she herself was.
Ebony nose twitched with excitement and taking in the scent of the deer, her eyes watched them move from grass patch to grass patch. She'd hold herself until Mist gave the word which she hoped was soon she couldn't wait to chase down her first deer, she let out a whine of impatience looking to Mist once more.

Mist watches her daughter intently, waiting to see if all of the information made sense and was clear. Noticing Cagalli's stance and acute attention, Mist nods slightly, deciding that she is ready. At Cagalli's impatient whine, Mist's golden eyes sparkle, displaying her excitement and energy. She nods quickly and lowers herself further into the grass, her dark grey coat blending into the colors of the landscape. She slinks forward slowly in order to get closer to the herd before they become aware of her presence and again checks the wind's direction to make sure that they are still downwind.
Reaching the treeline, Mist stops and waits for Cagalli to catch up, still focusing much of her attention of the deer to make sure that the two faemmes are still undetected. Glancing at her daughter, she nods slightly and waits for Cagalli's returning nod. Once she sees it, she focuses on an old, lame doe and shoots out into the clearing.

The tri-hued fea kept herself low and out of sight waiting for Mist's adavance before she'd make her own...this was her first hunt, offically and she couldn't wait to take down the herla. Looking at Mist she waited for the signal to go, she had to restrain her tail from wagging the she-varg was that excitent. Shifting her weight from side to side she just couldn't help herself another small whine of impatience. <<meh not so great X3 sorry>>
