The long winter has settled well on the Deor packlands. Being mainly enclosed by a dense forest, much of the snow has been diverted from falling onto the ground, and the many trees provide shelter from the continuing, often biting wind. An observer of the beautiful area would at first be surprised at the stillness, but then, on closer observation would realize that there is life here under the dense foliage even in the winter. Apart from various small animals, such as squirrels and chipmunks there are vargs, for indeed, this is the packland of the Deor pack. If the observer were to focus in on one of the pack members, they would see a fierce loyalty and stubborn pride, daring, and code of honor.
One such member is a sleek, shadowy dark grey fae, who at the moment, runs swiftly through the familiar paths and undergrowth of her beloved pack lands as she heads to a common meeting place, a small, raised hillock to the south of the central pack dens, not far from a deep part of the swiftly flowing river flowing through the land from one boundary to the other.
Reaching the hill, the fae stops and looks around her, breathing deeply the crisp, cold air. She smiles to herself as she spots a familiar figure heading to the hill to join her and throws her maw up in the air to encourage him. A howl escapes her and cuts into the still air - a joyful call of beckoning and encouragement. She suddenly shivers in joyful excitement, thinking of the life in the pack, revived after so long being empty and full of memories, especially for her, having grown up here, but now being the only member of her family left. But now, there are many wonderful new members, her dear friend Chayton, the young mann coming to the hill, just one of them.
After the last echoes of her howl die away Mist looks up at the sky and silently thanks Tor and Fenris for the revival of her pack. For a while the only thing she could do was sit and watch it fall deeper and deeper into nothingness as members left and no one new joined. But now, it is the opposite. The vargs coming to seek acceptance into the pack all exactly fit the standards of the tight-knit pack and seem to be faithful and loyal enough to outlast any hard times in the future, and prevent, by their very presence, a recurrence of the past. The soft crunch of paws on newly-fallen snow cause the fae to turn her attention back to earth, and seeing the new arrival, a smiles breaks out on to her lovely face.
((erg, I haven't started many threads, so I hope this is alright... This is mainly for Chayton, but if anyone else is dying to post, I'm sure that would probably be alright with him as well...))

New to the lands of Deor Chayton excitedly explored the terra, briefly though because he had a meeting with his dear friend Mist, who had encouraged him to join Deor. Now he was part of the pack, a ne wfeeling to the young manne after being seperated from his vicious birth pack. They were a pack but not a family. Not like Deor was. Not that the young manne truly knew that yet, but he felt good dwelling in the pack lands.
The bi- hued mann was just exploring a rather interesting thicket when he decided it was time to head over to meet Mist. Loping off in the direction that Mist had told him to head towards, the new Deor member quickened his pace. Eager to meet his friend and maybe even some of his new pack mates.
Spotting Mist up a hill Chayton gave a yip and broke into a full out run. Eager to greet his friend and begin his first day as a member if Deor. Mist let out a howl, encouraged by his friend Chayton let out a choppy howl as he sped forward. His claws dug into the dirt of the hill as he shot upwards. Skidding to a halt a few feet before Mist he let his tingue loll out. His sides heaved as the playful youth caught his breath.
"Hi Mist!" He greeted cheerfully. Happy to see his friend again. "I was investigating a couple of possible hiding places, so you may want to watch out if you're passing by some thicket." He grinned. He gave her a quick nuzzle to his friend before releaving an itch that had started its way behind his ear and had made a play area of his skull. Looking about the terra Chayton breathed in the crisp air. The pack life exhilarated him, he was excited to do anything.
"This is so exciting! I can't beleieve I'm actually a member of Deor! Isn't it great?" He barked happily. Blue orbs sparkling. This was the best day of his life, no no, the second best day of his life. Well, never the less this was an incredible day.
((I think you did fine, and anyone who wants to join please do))

At Chayton's graceful, enthusiastic entrance and greeting Mist's smile turns into a full grin. "Hello, Chayton! I'm glad you found your way here and didn't get tripped up by all those pesky fish!" Her eyes sparkle as she brings up a joke the two of them had had the day before. At his statement about where he'd been, she pulls a straight face and looks mockingly anxious. "Oh, Tor, I'd better watch my step from now on I guess. I wouldn't want to be frightened out of my wits by you jumping out at me some day..." She smiles again at the friendly nuzzle and nuzzles Chayton back. She watches him amusedly as he struggles with a violent itch and tilts her head to the side, laughing quietly.
At his excitement she nods happily. "It is indeed, for me as well! I am very proud of you, Chayton. I'm sure it's not an easy thing to go and ask for acceptance, but you once again proved yourself worthy of Deor." She pauses for a moment before glancing down the hill. "Well, now that you're here, would you like me to teach you to fish? It's rather hard in the winter and I will only be able to teach you to ice fish... or..." She tests the air with her nose, considering. "Actually, we'll have to see. The river may be open, but we'll still have to be careful, the water is icy cold. But I'll take you to a rather shallow part so we won't have to be afraid of falling in." She smiles at him happily, hoping that she'll be able to be a good teacher and convey well all the skills she has for catching prey.
((eh, rather short, sorry...))

((Of course, this is where I come skipping in...and somehow manage to put us all in mortal danger...teehee...clumsy me...)) ((Hi there, Chayton!)) ((Hi mumsie!)) On fine days such as this, Farrah could not help taking a pleasant walk through the woods. Of course, this was all in good fun for her. She liked to see the smells and smell the sights...or, what? Anyways, she skipped merrily along, shoving her nose into various interesting places, looking up at the sky, and all in all, enjoying life. The smell of Mist and a newcomer wafted through the area suddenly. Well, as is usual when Farrah sniffs someone she knows...or someone she doesn't know for that matter...she decided to butt in and say hi. Slowly, she snuck along, meandering about, running around in circles just for fun, but mainly keeping on the scent trail. That's when she spied them: it was Mist and a young-looking he-varg. Farrah never tired of teasingly embarassing her dear friend, so she called out to Mist. "Yoohoo! Mumsie! Hi!" she yelled, waving her tail wildly and plain out acting silly. ((Me's sorry Mist. Can't help but annoy you. ))

(((Aieee it's Farrah)))
Chayton, after rather comically releiving his itch listened to Mist. The thought of fishing made him excited. His tail began to wagg furiously. "Now you can really teach me and then I can cover you in fish!" He barked happily. Although he had to admit, the idea of fishing in the cold water was somewhat less than appealing. But he was still excited.
Although the excitement of fishing soon turned to curiosity as he scented the smell of another varg. A member of the Deor pack and soon to be part of his family, or actually he was soon to be part of their family. He was indeed the new comer and slightly shy, but he was happy that he would meet another member of the pack.
"Mist, who's that?"He asked Mist, hoping that she would scent the other varg as well. But soon the varg appeared and called out to Mist. Mumsie?Chayton thought, wondering if indeed Mist was her mother, although they looked similar in age. Turning to Mist he gave her a confused look. "Mumsie?"Chayton asked, looking back to the new varg.

Laughing Mist shakes her head. "No, please... I cannot stand the thought of drowning in fish... they are good to eat, but that is not how I would like to wake up some morning." At Chayton's question she looks around, and not seeing anyone yet scents the air. A rather familiar scent comes to her and she nods. Just about to answer his question she hears Farrah's cheerful greeting.
Turning slightly she sees her friend coming up the hill and smiles. Shaking her head in amusement at Chayton's confused question she looks at him. "That... is Farrah. And she's not my daughter, but a friend of hers is my adopted daughter and so Farrah... well, I guess you could say she adopted me... as her mother... in a way." Laughing at the jumbled explanation she shrugs. "Well, it's something like that..."
As Farrah reaches the brow of the hill Mist turns to look at her and smiles. "Hello, Farrah!" She calls. "I wasn't really expecting you to join us, but I suppose the more the merrier!" Glancing from one to the other she introduces her friends to each other. "Farrah, this is Chayton. He is a dear friend and he recently joined Deor... so be nice!" She smiles and her eyes sparkle with amusement, showing the meaning behind the words. "Chayton, this is Farrah... watch out for her, she's... slightly over enthusiastic sometimes." Once again she smiles broadly and then shakes her head, looking at them both.
"Farrah, I was just going to attempt to teach Chayton to ice fish, if you have nothing else to do, you are welcome to join us, unless Chayton has any objections..." She looks at Chayton and it is clear that she truly wants him to speak his feelings and not fear offending either of them, as either feeling would be understandable."

((Teehee...Chayton, good luck fending yourself away from my mad-fishing skills...I'm the Roland Martin of the varg! Is that his name? I think so...I mean...of course it is! I like to stay up-to-date on all the fishing tactics because I am the best...heehee...)) Farrah looked into the eyes of the new male varg. They were a deep blue and fondled in an ora of mystique. She wondered who this varg was and why he was here and why he was so darn handsome... Did I think that out loud in my head? Farrah scolded herself. Mmm mmmm...we're not going there again... she reminded herself. Friend only. She smiled at Mist's introduction to the new he-varg, shook of the grin and put on a fake-serious face, bowing low to the ground. "I am honored to meet you, dear vargie. Have we met before? In the palace perhaps which Tor herself honored me in? I'm a very good dancer, I'm sure you would remember me." She smiled inwardly. She loved mind games. "Yes, I met Mist's adopted daughter...she is a pretty good friend of mine, though a meer peasant of the lands...Mist has become Drappa of the pack and ruler of the woods, as you probably well know...speaking of which, I almost forgot!" At this, Farrah lowered her tail and simultaneously her head in a small bow. "How art thou today, my dear beloved ruler?"

Chayton, still somewhat excused just nodded his head. He'd probably figure it out later. But for now he was content to begin his fishing lesson. That was until the strange Farrah chimed in. "I don't mind." Chayton smiled, still watching Farrah. She was very strange, and yet something about her intrigued him. What was it about her?
"Nice to meet you as well." He gave an odd to look to Mist as Farrah continued. "I don't think we've met. I don't think I've ever heard of a varg dancer." He wasn't exactly sure what he was getting himself into.
Chayton turned to Mist, disbelief now flooding his face. She had never mentioned she was Drappa. Had she said that because she didn't want to be trated special? Had he been showing her any disrespect? "You're Drappa? Mist you never told me!" He still looked at Mist before turning to Farrah, wandering if she was joking. Surely Mist would've told him. But he wasn't sure. "Are you really Drappa?" He sat down, contemplating the situation in his mind. Perhaps Farrah was being silly, did she really dance as well? Who exactly was she anyway? Questions buzzed through Chayton's head. He wasn't sure what he had gotten himself into.
"You never mentioned Farrah when you told me of Deor." He smiled, pretending to now be wary of the she varg. "Had I known of her odd tricks and words I might not of come." He laughed. "Well wether you are drappa or not, you might as well be one." With that he gave a large bow, mimicking Farrah's.

There is something about Farrah that makes Mist almost always smile. The enthusiastic fae is unusual, but for that is not any less of a friend to the silver fae. Mist watches with amusement at her friend's antics as she dramatically speaks to Chayton and tells him of her dancing skills and good friend Tor. Shaking her head Mist laughs softly at Chayton's confusion. She doesn't blame him for not knowing what to think of Farrah. Often the other fae confuses her as well.
As Farrah calls her Drappa and bows she raises an eyebrow and stares for a moment at the fae. After a short time she smiles and shakes her head, and at Chayton's surprised question she looks at him. "No, no... she's not being serious. It is true, my Mother was Drappa, but that was long ago, and then Chalos became the pack Dragga after she left. Oh, Tor... even if I was Drappa, I might not have told you. I suppose I am happy being who I am, then other vargs can be themselves around me. Also, it's easier to meet new friends when you are simply a pack member." Smiling she thinks specifically of meeting Chayton. "Would you have been so open with me, and so comfortable with me if I had been Drappa of Deor, Chayton?" Shrugging she adds, "I do not think it would be the same, so it is probably for the best that I am who I am..."
Laughing after a moment as she sees Chayton's confused expression she shakes her head again. "Perhaps at this time it is best not to too easily believe anything that Farrah says until you get to know her better." Glancing at the other fae Mist eyes her pointedly. At Chayton's next words she turns back to him. "Then I am glad that I didn't tell you of Farrah, for I am very happy that you decided to join Deor after all." She smiles and then raises an eyebrow again in surprise as he bows to her as well. "What do you mean by that, Chayton?" She asks, suddenly wondering what it would have been like if Aztec had appointed her the new Drappa when her mother had had to leave...
((not that vargs can really raise eyebrows, but she's doing the varg equivilant of it... ^_^ Interesting topic you got started, Farrah...))

Farrah acted extremely offended. "You lied to me Mist? You told me you were Drappa of the pack!" She gasped. "You did that only so I would like you, did you?" Then she shook her head and looked at Chayton with mock-wisdom etching her face. "One must never pretend to be what they are not for then they are not truly loved." She shook her head, staring at Mist with a fake-almost-parental authority. "You should have told me the truth before, but I'm glad you finally exposed yourself. I forgive you." Then she smiled a very broad smile, wagged her tale, and spun around to face Chayton again, extreme sarcastic agony enveloping her features. "You wouldn't join Deor if you knew of me being here? I guess I should just end this now! Oh, life, why has thou betrayed me!! I should just go jump of a cliff...or not breath...that's what I'll do! I'll just hold my breath and it will all be over!!" Then, she made a dramatic attempt at holding her breath, and fell over, pretending to have passed out, sprawled upon the frozen terrain, looking quite comical, with tongue sticking out and eyes looking without seeing into the distance...

"Oh, well Mist I just think you'd make a very wonderful drappa. I mean you did get me to join Deor, and you believed in me all the way." He smiled. Being truthful that Mist would make a great Drappa, but then again, Chayton just really admired her. He hadn't had many good vargs in his life. Even the nurturing, if that is what it could be called, of his mother was questionable.
Chayton watched as Farrah only made herself appear stranger than usual. He didn't know what to think of this pack member of his. Which brought him to smile. He could say that now, he now had pack members. "Well regardless of drappa or not. I'm just glad to finally have a pack." He looked out about the terra, from this hill he could survey his new homeland. Excitement ran through his body. He couldn't wait till spring when the snow would thaw and he could see the brillant colors. His old packland never had any colors, desolate and gloomy was the theme. Just like their attitudes and hearts, if they had any.
"I'm still owed some fishing lessons." He nudged Mist with his muzzle. "After all, how am I going to pile fish upon you in your old age if I can not catch one to save my own life?" Saying this somewhat dramatically, it was hard to act relatively normal with Farrah around, being the dramatic thing she was. Chayton could not figure her out, possibly she was doing this because it was her way, or because he was new.
He shook his coat out, rolling his eyes at Farrah. But as Farrah made herself even more dramatic Chayton turned to Mist, quite unsure of what to do about this death feigning she varg.
Padding over slowly to the downfallen fae, Chayton gave Mist a wink. "Oh no. What have I done? My selfishness has ruined the life of another varg." Chayton fell down beside Farrah and pretended to weep. "Oh Mist, what have I done?"

Not really knowing what to say, even though her friend is obviously just teasing her, Mist shakes her head with a raised eyebrow. "Farrah, if I would lie about something like that, I would not be in this pack." Her tone is mixed - there is something echoing Farrah's teasing, but there is something else, hinting that the Deor fae thinks that it is perhaps too important of a subject to be jesting about. Having had no trouble in her life making friends, and having no need to lie about something like that, Mist watches Farrah calmly, but makes no further remark to the other fae on the subject, even at Farrah's statement of forgiveness. Usually finding it easy to go along with teasing she does not think this certain topic to be one for such tones.
Turning to Chayton she smiles at his sweet comment. "Thank you Chayton. I do not think it will ever happen, but any talent for the position that I would have probably came from my mother, who was the Drappa. In fact, I believe she was the only Drappa Deor has ever had. If my memory serves me correctly there have been three Draggas - Chalos the third, but Aztec was the only Drappa so far. " At Chayton's next words she smiles again. "I am no Drappa, and I never said I was... but I also am glad you now have a pack, and that you chose Deor to be your home."
At the young mann's statement she nods and glances down at the river before looking back to her friend. "You are right, and we have been delaying. Are you ready? We just have to get to the river and find a place where we can get through the ice without being in danger of falling in. That is not so pleasant an experience, but at least today is not too cold." She says this remembering a time as a cub when she did not listen to her mother and, trying to ice fish, fell through thin ice. Luckily it was a shallow part of the river, so she pulled herself out, but went to the dens dripping wet, cold, and ashamed.
At Farrah's fake "death" she cannot help but smile, and shakes her head once more at the dramatic scene. Looking at Chayton she tilts her head with a questioning look in her eyes. Nodding slightly as he pads over to the "fallen" varg, Mist follows him slowly and puts on a face of mock sadness. Shaking her head woefully she sits down next to Chayton. "The only thing to do, Chayton is to leave her here for now..." She says dramatically, hoping Farrah will decide to come alive again after her pronounced decision. "We will go fishing... in honor of our friend... and then tell Chalos of the loss tonight. Tomorrow we will come get her, but in the mean time she must lie out here in the snow, cold and frozen until tomorrow..."
((erg, sorry... my muse has gone on vacation without me... She must have been too impatient for Spring Break and she left before I could go... ))

Farrah, hearing the words 'cold', 'frozen', and 'in the snow' realized that this death-defying act was not the brightest in history, because her ears were numbing quickly. She slitted her eyes and saw the two other varg over her, Chayton fake weeping. I like this guy she thought happily. He knows how to play along...oh goodie...we could defnitely have fun with this, couldn't we now? Yep yep, we could. Farrah began to twitch all over, first her ears, then her paws, and then her tail, as an animal does when it is in deep sleep and dreaming. Suddenly, she jumped up, looking around, puzzled. "I'm alive! Oh Tor, thankyou for giving me life!!!" She skipped around merrily a few times, and then went up to Chayton. "Dearest vargie of mine, do not cry!" And she pretended to wipe tears from his eyes. "There there...I'm ok...you have no need to fret..." Then, she hunched her shoulders, and began walking very low to the ground. Imitating a small pup's voice, she said, "Oh mumsie! When are we going to catch some big juicy fish? I'm very hungry and I know you're so very good at teaching me stuff!" ((Mist, as you can see by my extremely short posts of late, mine has left me as well, but I think he went on the first commercial flight to the moon, and will not be returning very soon...))

Trying to keep from laughing Chayton continued to pretend to weep for poor departed Farrah. His body trembled from the snickers he kept from exploding from his maw as Mist joined him in this little game. As Mist spoke Chayton nodded his head. "I am afraid so. Perhaps if we fish then we can clear our minds of this horrible thing that happened. One would think a curse was on Deor now that I have come." He hung his head.
Suddenly Farrah began to twitch. Perking up Chayton gasped. "Look Mist, she twitches! PErhaps Fenris and Tor have spared her!" He danced around, but when Farrah popped up he pretended to be still sad at her passing. As soon as she spoke and wiped away the fake tears Chayton fell over laughing. His sides felt like they would split from this odd encounter.
Farrah only continued her oddity as she slunk over to Mist and asked about fishing. Chayton could contain it no longer. His sides began to hurt as he continued laughing, snorting and rolling around. "Sorry." He tried to compose a straight face and join the two. But as soon as he looked at Farrah he couldn't contain it. "Mist, you should've warned me about her, I think I shall die this very moment from laughing so much."He giggled before dropping to the ground once again. Finally stopping his laugh attack enough to breath he sat up. "I can see no other option than to go fishing. Especially since Farrah here seems so hungry and dependent on you Mist." He gave Mist a nudge. " You might not be the only one covered with fish in your old age."
The day seemed to be filled with strange things, and the way it looked, Farrah would continue to fill his life with strange things every day. He couldn't quite define what it was, but something about her he liked. Perhaps it was her crazyness. She wasn't predidctable. "I'm glad I met you both and that I came to Deor. My life would seem so boring."He smiled at Farrah. Thinking briefly of his former pack, he was glad they left him. Glad he was rid of them. If he hadn't of known that his mother was indeed his mom, he would have thought he had been abducted or something. But now he was happy.
"Allright ladies. Let's go catch some fish."With that he launched himself down the hill. Speeding down through the snow. "Catch me if you can!" He shouted over his shoulder.
(((Well hopefully your muse can come back, so come and catch me!!)))

((Tiggrs don't play catch...ok...maybe just a little bit...Aaaaaah!)) Farrah gave one whimsical look at Mist before flying into the air over the side of the hill and skidding down, sliding into a full gallop, trying to catch up to the quick Chayton. "The hunter shortens the distance between it and its inevitable prey..." she said, in a deep announcer voice between puffs of breath. Lungfuls of cold air refreshed her, upping her pace. Farrah liked to think of herself in shape. She was a natural runner as well as she was a natural annoyer. She considered herself very nimble, and loved a good sprint. Wow. This varg is like an answer to a prayer...a long awaited friend...what more could I ask for?
