Her muzzle lifted to meet the sky, and jaws opened to release a calling. This call went out to all her pack mates, all her family and friends. She missed each one a great deal, and by this call the nurse, Bent Time, hoped with all her heart that at least one or two would answer and join her company on this fine summer day.
So, as she made her call, the gentle welcoming howl lifted up and up into the winds, flying over the trees and singing through the sweet summer grasses. Up and up and up to the sky, higher and higher until it faded away at last. Fading into the summer breeze that sang with the call over the lands of not just Deor, but other pack lands and other territories as well.
B.T. took the careful time to listen to the silence that followed, a gentle wolf’s smile gracing the muzzle that had rang out in song only moments ago. Dazzling gray optics shimmering in the sunlight, as the searched the shadows and the grasses around her for any sign of a varg that might come.
So she waited. She sat in patience, sure that someone would come, positive that the pack would join her and at last they would be reunited. But alas, as the minutes passed her hope began to dwindle. Though she stayed and waited as the shadows became few, and great Fenris came to his watch of all the land, the time of noon had come.
“Too beautiful a day is wasted with a hollow emptiness of these lands.” B.T. shook her head in sorrow as she spoke softly, barely considered a whisper, but loud enough to hear over the breeze and rustling leaves. “Why do they not answer?”
But just as she said, she could hear something, something traveling toward her. She raised her head to get a better look, and slowly her tail began to wag. Whomever it was it was wolf. At last someone had answered her morning call and someone had come at last! Bent Time lifted her body onto her slender legs and dainty paws, she stood in quite anticipation of the looming figure, soon to be revealed to her as . . .
