INSIDE THE WOLF
Baipure
past
The wind sighed along with him. Baipure had been alone. That was where he wanted to be. Some-where alone. No more family. No more new cubs. Just him. He never could deserve the attention from his father anyway. How could a baby sister do any different? God. If they really cared some-one would be here right now. And watch him rub his head against a stone wall. He couldn't go in the house. His mother was there, pregnant. And he could stay in the second den. The little one. That you had to squat to crawl into. He could breathe in the smell of mildew. Must, dirt. Bats.
Now he had a baby sister. Just like he had guessed. She would follow him, or his tail nipping and biting. They named her Rehobeth. She was a beautiful young Drappa. Her pelt looked as if chipped from coal. But Bai was young too, he could of had the attention she was taking from him. "Life is hard for a young Dragga." His mother told him one day. Gray, white, and time marked her pretty face. He searched her eyes. "Its your father. I'm afraid he is leaving soon." Bai looked at her. "Where?" "Where every good varg goes." "Why?" He whined. "Heart failure." The fact lingered between each of their beating hearts. She had answered him so clearly. It wouldn't work. His mother would not take care of both of them. Both of the cubs.
Baipure's father died in the next few days. But there were no recommendations from him afterwards."Stay here" His mother told him. Little Rehobeth peeked out curiously from behind her haunches. "Mother, what will I do here?" He asked. "Please don't leave me here." he begged, searching the lonely sad space around him."Every-thing's alright." Bai looked up at her, but she was turned around, saying this to Rehobeth. She looked back at him. Sad in her dusty eyes. But with a scruff on Rehobeth's neck, she had taken off. Bai did not follow her. Instead he lifted his head and studied the stars. He would eat his own food here. He could live on this plain. Sliding his fore-arms forward, he laid there. In the white sand. His cream colored pelt mixed with the moonlight. "Everythings alright." His mother's voice said. No.
