The greatest mistake I've ever made is also my salvation
Title: Dane
Gender: Dragga
Age: A little over 2 years
Pack: Sarnes
Affiliations:
Mother: Shunke [adoptive] Blood-mother deceased
Father: Deceased
Brother under the sun: Dakota- [disowned]
Friends:
Enemies: Aweirgan
Description:
Dane has long, cream colored legs with large paws supporting a dark, bulky body. His pelt is a dark mix of greys and browns, while his undercoat is a soft cream color. Black fur runs from the nape of his neck to the tip of his tail. Offset eyes pierce the souls of any that look into them: one is an unsettling amber while the other is a blue cold as steel. His muscular body does not dismiss his long legs which carry him effortlessly over the terrain.
Personality:
Since the death of his parents, Dane has never been quite the same. Once, a happy pup comforted by the safety of family, he now stalks the swamplands of Sarnes, amongst the rotten and the damned. He is quite the apathetic and dull character, and feels no connection to anyone but his surrogate mother and Drappa of Sarnes, Shunke. Whereas he used to house a pup-like innocence beneath his cold exterior, that part of him is slowly being forced away.
History:
Run. That was what his body was doing, what his instincts caused him to do, though his mind was at a standstill. What had happened? The last thing he remembered, he was telling his mother what a wonderful time he had on his first hunt with his father. The Dragga stood proudly as he listened to his son rattle off everything he had accomplished: Tracking the unsuspecting rabbit, moving in for the kill, and finally, enjoying the spoils. His mother had to stifle her laughter at her son's enthusiasm, as she occasionally looked up and winked at her mate.
Gunshots. The wolves started to their feet and Dane looked worriedly at his parents. The thundering sounds were unfamiliar to him, though he knew it to be man. His father looked sadly to his mother, then growled, "Leave! Get out while you can, I'll stay behind and take them!" Dane whimpered as he looked lamentably at his brave father for the last time, then ran into the trees after his mother.
More gunshots in the distance, the sound of dogs rushing stupidly to the fallen varg, directing their masters to the prize. A man looked up and pointed in the direction of Dane and his mother, "I saw another one escape that way!!" he exclaimed, before re-mounting his horse and leading his band after them. For some reason or another, Dane hadn't been spotted, though his mother knew she would have to give up her own life to save her son's. She looked at him remorsefully, but managed a smile. "Don't worry, honey...everything will be alright, but you've got to listen to me. Do you remember the old fox den I showed you a few suns ago? You must run there, as fast as your legs will take you...Stay there and don't come out. Do you understand?" Dane was about to protest, he was about to ask why it had to be this way, but before he had time, his mother licked him one last time on the nose and nudged him off. "I love you, don't forget that!" she called after him hurriedly.
A single shot. Dogs. Laughter. Horses retreating. Dane kept running and didn't stop. He finally came to the abandoned fox den and backed inside so he was touching the cold, earth wall. His head knew what his heart denied- his parents were dead. He whimpered silently for himself, not knowing the full extent of what had happened. Not knowing that man had sought out to kill his parents only because they were wolves suspected of attacking livestock. His parents had died for nothing. His whole world had vanished in a matter of minutes. Mismatched eyes peered wearily out of the entrance of the den, his imagination filled with horrid images of dogs, horses, guns...He lay there, praying to Tor and Fenris to keep him safe through the night. Praying that he not be found. Praying to wake up and have it all just be a dream...
------------
Throughout his life, he has met Kacia, Dakota and Scarlet who actually tolerated him long enough to see past his facade and become his friends. He hasn't seen them in a very long time and feels horribly forgotten. It was this feeling that led him to join Sarnes to try and make him feel whole again, though he is blind to Shunke's manipulative tactics. He has yet to meet the rest of his new pack.
Rather than fighting Shunke's tempting words, he is instead drawn in by them, resulting in him seeing her as the mother he never had. He will do anything for her.
