The Sight Story Contest
The winners of June's Contest are as follows: First, Zukozu Second, Zeth Third, Tarmalo Fourth, Zabarack Thanks to the people who helped me judge this. ^^
Ok, so like the past 2 months. The rules are as follows:
- Choose a beginning that inspires you the most. Anything goes so be as creative as you like. (Just, please remember, PG 13)
- First place wins you 15 post points, second winds you 10, and third wins you 5.
- To save me from reading novels, theres a limit of 4000 words that you can add to the beginning paragraph/s. If you go a little over that's fine, I won't bite your head off. ^^
- And last but not least, have fun! This is meant to get your creative juices running and be an easy and fun way to gain points.
Ok, there are 3 beginnings this time around. Pick whichever one you like, just state (or copy/paste) the beginning you used.1. The sky was a crystal clear blue, and just on the other side of the coastal road, over the sea wall the beach stretched lazily westwards until it met the sea. On the expanse of sand there were children begging their parents to let them ride on a donkey, the poor mules being dragged up and down the beach with small children on their backs all day. But across from that, there was a wide field that buzzed with activity. The circus was in town again. The screams of excitement or pure terror from the long suffering fairground nearby melted on the huge sides of the circus tents. Outside, was a mixture of smells from food stalls or from the temporary stabling for the show animals. Inside, was a land of promised entertainment. 2. (Inspired by my cat Leon being an attention-seeking little git whilst I was writing these beginnings the other night. Though please don't feel you have to use me as a main character. 0_0 it would be weird.)I was sat on my bed, writing the usual rubbish, the story that my friend thinks I should get published when I eventually finish it - if I ever finish it. It was only a certain feline interruption that made me pause out of necessity. Since my cat does not just want attention, he demands it. He had jumped up with a dejected meow and proceeded to stand on my notepad, purring like a maniac. Already my bed had gained a quilt of cat hairs, the change in season is making him malt so much that I really do pity our hoover. His only saving grace from igniting my temper was that whilst I gave in to his cute pitiful looks and gave him the attention he so craved, was that my eyes were drawn to the events unfolding outside - and I couldnt quite believe what I was seeing. 3. Ok, I got a little carried away with this one. This is the beginning of what I ended up writing into a short story of my own. I so cool. >.<Just another quiet street on the east of a quiet little town, or at least, that’s what one might presume. For in the dead of the night, when the residents of the rows of semi-detached, semi-decaying houses were sleeping, a streetlight flickered and went out. Just a coincidence, just another thing that was breaking in this quiet corner of town, but it gave the perfect cover to a silent figure who had silently slinked from the bushes, and scaled over the back gate of one house. There was no sound, just the screeching of a bat as it hunted moths by the streetlamp across the road, and there was no sound as the man broke into number 18, Jack Porter’s house. Not a sound was heard, as the man crept up the stairs and murdered the apparently innocent singleton in the dead of the night. When the police finally arrived at the scene after people finally realised that Jack had been gone, they found no trace of blood, no trace of a struggle, and all the signs that Jack was going bankrupt and had merely tried to escape his failing life. The man who had killed Jack, well, no one knows his real name. To most people he is just a whispered name, and to very few people, he is a name and a number. Carcharhinus leucas, or Leucas for short, and only a select few knew the origin of his name. Bull Shark, or the Ganges Shark. A vicious creature and one of the most aggressive of the ocean predators, most commonly known for it’s attacks on humans in the murky river waters. Leucas was a gun for hire, an assassin. Hired to do the dirty work of the rich and the famous, they want a certain person dead, and Leucas was the best man to get to do it. Leucas would kill the target, and leave without a trace, done and dusted; he never even gave a second thought to his victims. What kind of assassin would he be if he had a conscience anyway? However, Leucas had not counted on the target Jack Porter coming back to haunt him.

The sky was a crystal clear blue, and just on the other side of the coastal road, over the sea wall the beach stretched lazily westwards until it met the sea. On the expanse of sand there were children begging their parents to let them ride on a donkey. A tall, thin figure walked across the sands of the elonged beach, watching intently as the poor mules were being dragged up and down the beach with small children on their backs all day. He had no children, none to beg him for cotton candy and donkey rides; none to interupt his sleep due to nightmares and wet beds; none to ask for help on their homework. He watched these parents with their children.
Inside, was a land of promised entertainment for little children. Kids ran around, screaming and laughing. The thin figured man found an empty bench to sit down on, watching the comotion. The day was cool and the sky clear and the drink in his hand, refreshing.
A female, average height with her hair pulled back, walked by. "You look lonely there, all by yourself." The man turned around to face the female. She wasn't particularly pertty, but she wasn't ugly either. She had high cheek bones and long dark hair. She had a lovely tan. She looked as if she were Native American, or part Native American.
"Just watching," was his reply. "May I join you, dear sir?" She smiled, teeth showing white. He smiled back. "If you so wish." She sat down and stuck her hand out. "Mary." He excepted her hand. "David." And for hours they talked until the sun set itself upon the outstreatched water behind them, reflecting a beautiful red-orange. "It's getting late. Why don't we finish this conversation over dinner, Hannah?" She smiled again. Hannah seemed to be a generally happy character. "Sure," she said, excepting the offer.
They walked to the mans car. He turned the engine on and they began on their way. "I must ask, David. Do you have children?" "No, I do not have children. Do you?" Before her answer could drip from her mouth, bright lights shone in their faces, directly in their faces. Another car came at them head on.
David woke up in the hospital several weeks later to the sound of teh EKG and a tube stuck down his throat. A white coat came to his bedside to check his vitals. The tube was pulled from his throat. David started coughing. When the coughing rage ended, the white coated doctor told David that he had been in a coma for two weeks and that his passenger never woke up.

(((where the hell is Agaust TSSC? well anyways I used my own intro since you dont have the one for Agaust up yet.....Take note that the story is NOT finished yet.....I'm just putting this up cuz i dont trust my PC)))
The day started out like any other day. It was already past mid-day and Josh was still asleep on the couch. A sudden presence loomed over him causing him to wake up.
“Josh wake up already. We gotta go,” exclaimed a girl like voice. Josh opened his eyes to find Angel; a sixteen year old girl with medium length brown hair and stood at a good 5’8’’ or 5’9’’. She had had brown eyes that always showed a great amount of kindness when looked upon.
“Hurry up Josh or we’re gonna be late,” said Angel as she stood at the end of the couch looking upon Josh. She had her hand firmly placed on her hip which meant that she wasn’t joking around.
“Ok, ok. I’m getting up,” said Josh in a yawn. He looked over at the clock. Well it wasn’t much of a clock considering that it was just the digital cable clock, but it was still a clock. Josh then reached down under the couch and picked up his glasses. He put them on. Josh then rolled off the couch and stood up to stretch his thin seventeen year old frame. He could feel the blood rushing through his system communicating with his muscles; telling them it was time to wake up. Josh looked around taking in the light that mid-day generously gave which was shining in through the windows and past the half open red drapes, washing the whole room with brilliant mid-day light. Yet the light didn’t seem real, everything felt strange. Almost as if Josh was in a dream. He shrugged the whole thing off passing himself off as still half asleep.
“Hey Angel do I still have time to shower,” Josh asked as he began walking into the kitchen and making his way to the bathroom. The sixteen year old girl known as Angel was nowhere to be found. “I guess that means yes,” said Josh quietly. Josh finished walking through the kitchen and was almost to the bathroom when he realized there was someone sleeping by the door.
“Hello Brook. Did you sleep well,” asked Josh in a gentle tone. A seven year old black Labrador retriever looked up and responded the best she could, which was wagging her tail. Josh reached down and softly petted that black furry skull of hers. Moving on Josh walked into the bathroom and looked into the mirror. His reflection startled him as he was not quite used to having black hair yet. Just recently about two days ago Josh dyed his hair for the first time to the color black and every time he looked in the mirror he failed to recognize the face he was looking at. Ever so curiously Josh felt the base of his skull and then made his way to feeling the ends of his hair. It felt so odd having black hair. It felt so odd looking in the mirror and not seeing the same person he had been seeing for seventeen years. He then undressed and stepped in the shower. The warm water felt soothing going down Josh’s back.
Before Josh could knew it he was in the car and speeding down to Sioux Falls. It all happened so fast. The getting dressed, teeth brushing, hair combing, finding the hidden shoes behind the couch. That went all too fast.
“So why are we going to Sioux Falls again,” asked Josh looking over at Tom who was driving. Tom was seventeen year old metal head/skateboarder with medium/short length blonde hair. He stood at a good 5’11’’ or 6’ foot. He also happened to be Angel’s boyfriend not that it mattered to Josh for he considered Angel to be like a sister to him or possibly a cousin.
“You mean you forgot,” said Angel with her mouth agape. “We’re going down to Sioux Falls to go to Hot Topic then shop around a little bit.” “Then we go to the Nodes concert at Wild Water West,” said Tom as he pounded on the steering wheel. “This should be good.” “Oh that’s right Nodes of Ranvier. I forgot about them,” said Josh in absent minded voice.
“How could you forget about the concert,” asked Angel in a shocked tone. “That’s the whole reason we’re going to Sioux Falls.”
Josh turned and looked out the window only to notice that a very curious thing was beginning to happen. All the cars and every thing around were moving at extremely high speeds. The birds, the bees, the birds AND the bees, everything was moving curiously fast. Then all of a sudden Josh was in Sioux Falls and in front of the Sioux Empire Mall and walking through the door.
The Sioux Empire Mall bustled with all sorts of people. It reminded Josh of ants mindlessly doing their daily work. Angel, Tom, and Josh had all entered from the food court so as soon as Josh stepped through the door a wave of artificial smells suddenly attacking his nostrils. Teriyaki chicken, pizza, Subway, McDonalds, Burger King, Dairy Queen, and several other disgusting grease joints.
Tom, Angel, and Josh all made their way to through the food court and turned a corner to where the mall store simply known as Hot Topic resided. As Josh and his friends walked into Hot Topic Josh quietly took note to the music that was playing (Tool). The clothes that the store owned all looked like desirable and Josh wanted to own a lot of the stuff that they sold there. One of the clerks who worked there asked Josh if he needed help with anything but Josh replied with a simple “no” and paid no more attention to her. Josh and his friends stayed inside the store for more than an hour and a half before Tom declared that was high time they left for the concert.
“C’mon Josh,” said Tom. “We already missed Brings Down the Sun. I don’t wanna miss anybody else.” “Ok ok. I was just looking at this Slayer patch,” said Josh. “I was think about buying it buy if we’re missing the concert than lets go.”
And with that said Tom, Angel, and Josh made their way for the exit (which was they way they came in) but as soon as Josh took one step out side Hot Topic a terrible migraine grabbed a hold of Josh’s brain. It felt like his whole skull was going to collapse right there. Again Josh looked up to find that strange event; that time was accelerating without him. Josh’s migraine then increased tenfold as suddenly he stood there and was not moving. It seemed that memories were entering his brain; first was the ride to Little Creaser’s pizza joint. Then the concert and moshing with people he never even seen before. How could this be happening when he’s standing right here doing nothing but clutching his head in pain?
The world slowly came back to “normal” as Josh’s senses cam back into focus. Josh shook his head as if trying to shake off the pain. “What in the name of hell just happened,” asked Josh in a quiet voice.
“Hey you,” exclaimed a voice. “How long have you been standing there? Are looking for a job or something because its closing time.” Josh looked up to who the voice belonged to. It appeared that the voice belonged to a young woman who looked to be about nineteen. Josh thought that she looked rather short for her age. The woman had long black hair and wore what looked like a dark colored corset with sleeves. Her bottom’s looked like long short shorts but she also had fishnet stalkings under them, she also wore black leather boots. This was the same woman Josh had shrug off before, the one that asked Josh if he needed any help. She looked rather stunning in that outfit.
“You do realize that its closing time right,” she asked. Josh looked at his watch to confirm her statement. His watch read 2:10 in the morning which meant that it had been eleven hours since Tom had suggested they leave. How did that happen?
“I bet he’s trying to get job here,” said another voice. Josh turned to find a man in his twenties with a curly beard. He wore a plan orange T-shirt with a pin on the front that said “Adam.” He also wore plain denim pants with a pair of sneakers. “Do you wanna see what the fabulous break would look like if you ever happen to work here,” he asked. “Normally I wouldn’t do this for a stranger but since its closing time and there’s no one around except us. Well I guess I can make an exception,” he said in a bragging voice.
“Sure I guess,” said Josh. “I can see no harm in that.” The unknown man then beckoned him to the corner of Hot Topic where there stood two doors. On one side of the corner there stood a door with long rectangular mirror hanging off of it and there was the other door which was plain and dull looking. The man opened the dull looking door and showed Josh the inner contents of the room.
It turned out that the unknown mans fabulous “break room” turned out to be a run down rusty old bathroom that smelled of feces. Josh looked around ignoring the urge to vomit but however Josh couldn’t take it much longer. So he ran out of the bathroom and gasped for breath like he had just come up from a long dive underwater. The woman than smiled as if she knew something that Josh did not (which she probably did).
“HAH that’s one hell of a break room wouldn’t you say,” she said laughing. She then straightened up putting on very solemn look “if you really want to see a break room than follow me.” She than gave Josh an extremely teasing smirk and silently walked to the corner where Josh stood. “Adam,” she said. “Don’t follow us.” And with that the woman turned and opened the sleek door with the rectangular mirror. It was insane; it felt like the woman had put a spell on Josh for Josh could hardly contain himself. He wanted to follow this woman to the ends of the earth and do whatever she would ask of just so he could see that smile on her face. What the hell was going on?
Into this new room Josh had followed the unknown woman. This room was quite different from Hot Topic; this room smelt of copper and chains hung from the ceiling in very fashionable sense. Around the cemented room on the ground stood very comfortable looking purple/velvet furniture; now this looked like a brake room! Josh was completely amazed.
“Well,” she asked. “What do you think…hopefully not a bunch of rubbish huh,” she asked. “WOW,” said another voice. “This place looks amazing! Why have you never let me in here?” it turned out that voice belonged to the man known as Adam for he come in the room after the other woman had told him not to. “Why come a little closer so I can tell you. You see it’s a bit of a secret. I don’t want to just anybody,” said the young woman. Adam did as the woman said and walked closer to her. “Well what’s the big secret,” he asked. “Die you son of a bitch!” And with that she suddenly produced a long knife from the depths of her pockets and rammed the knife with full force straight through Adam’s jaw than up and through his brain. Adam’s lifeless corpse hung off the woman’s knife. Then with seductive movements she bent her head under Adam’s jaw and started licking the blood that dripped his throat. Some how and some way Josh silently wished that had been him for he wanted her to lick him in that way.
The young woman than jammed the knife into the ceiling with Adam still hanging from the hilt. With slow movements she began running the finger around the corners of her mouth wiping off extra blood that was on her face. Then she took her fingers and started lick her fingers in way that made Josh blush.
“Stop it,” Josh yelled. “Just what the hell do you want with me,” he asked yelling. Then as if to answer him she walked over and leaned in to his ear. “I don’t know,” she said as she dawned that same seductive smirk. “You just look like the type of person that would like to be messed with and I would like it to be by me.” She stepped back and winked at Josh then walked past him while he savored her words.
