Panting with exertion the cripple mann had to struggle to remain standing to avoid collapsing onto the ground. To say he was tired would be an understatement as it failed to explain the true depths of the gray kerl’s fatigue, as a matter of fact it barely scratched the surface. Kop was exhausted. There was no other way to put it, he was beyond meaningless expressions such as fatigued and weary. Simply put he was completely and utterly exhausted. His paws throbbed and his right flank was troubling him more then usual, the joints and muscles in his leg burning painfully so that it felt like it was on fire. He could scarcely breathe, his lung burning from exhaustion so that he stood panting heavily in harsh, ragged breathes. At his feet lay the twisted, broken form of an ancient stag, its neck broken from when Kop had crushed its throat in his jaws.
The grizzled mann had relocated himself closer to List shortly after his last meeting with Renn, taking up residence just outside of the mountain packs domain in order to remain close to the golden femora. Having learned of the great famine that plagued List each winter Kop had begun actively seeking out as many Herla as he could find, killing anything that he managed to come across before dragging it back to List and depositing it safely within the pack boundaries. Such hunts were hard on Kop as the grizzled mann’s limp and inability to move swiftly proved a constant hindrance to his progress, forcing Kop to use more decisive tactics in order to compensate for his stolen grace. In the span of five weeks he had managed two kills with his current catch being his third, Kop had pursued the old Herla’s herd relentlessly for days until exhaustion had settled in and taken its toll on the withering deer. Unable to keep up with the rest of the herd it had been left behind where Kop had little trouble wearing it down, attacking it constantly over the course of the next few hours before finally breaking its neck and killing it.
After feeding on the carcass enough to satisfy his own hunger the gray wolf had brought the remains back to List where he had planned to deposit them and leave before anyone had the chance to notice him, however the trip had taken longer then expected leaving Kop weary from his trek and forcing him to remain in List until he had fully recuperated. Kop knew it was only a matter of time before someone caught wind of his scent and came to investigate, hopefully he would be long gone by the time that happened but as tired as he was Kop wasn’t about to hold his breath. Best case scenario Renn or Drathlic would find him and help him to escape before anyone else came along, and if not Kop could always claim the kill to be a gift from Ge-Rad to signify Draeg’s friendship with the List on behalf of his father. A lie maybe but a creditable lie at least, still Kop would rather be long gone before anyone decided to show up.
