Thunder cleared his throat his tail wagging behind him. He whined silently his emotions confused. He felt that she did not like that he had said that. He then broke the silence,"Sorry, its a bit early for me to be calling you daughter." He grinned and reclined on his haunches casually.
He began to groom himself, licking his paw and rubbing it across his head. He threw his head to the side clearing the fur from his eyes. He then said,"So how's it been. I know its been a long time since Falter has been around. How are you taking it?" He padded closer to her andsat infront of her with a face full of concern.

[shadow=purple,left,300]Mist stares at the stone walls of the castle, avoiding Thunder's eyes and not wanting him to see her confusion - mixed feelings. At his question, she nods to herself, respecting his talent for making it at least a bit more comfortable. She looks at him, her golden eyes the most visible part of her in the darkness. "I've started to get used to it. I don't think of him as often now... Of course I miss him, but my life has changed in the months that he's been gone..." She closes her eyes for a moment, visualizing her older brother - Falter - his kind, handsome face... She sighs quietly, and opens her eyes - now shimmering with tears - before turning away again, not wanting to show her grief. It is now doubtful that Falter will ever come back... What happened to him? Is he dead or alive? Will she ever see him again?[/shadow]

He listened to her, he watched her intently taking notice of her emotions. He watched her try not to show her grief. He had heard a lot about Falter and from the brief time he met him he saw the mann as a caring brother. He looked at Mist,"No need to hide your emotions from me. Its unhealthy to keep it up inside you. I won't think any less of you cry. Your brother is a great mann, you should be a little sad you haven't seen him for awhile. It would be a great loss to our pack and family if he never returned. I don't think he would leave us forever though." Thunder hoped he hadn't said anything offending.

[shadow=purple,left,300]Mist returns her gaze to Thunder after a moment, and then sighs audibly. She listens to his words, and at his last statement, she shakes her head slightly, not knowing what to think. "I want to think that he will return, but he left with no word... I do not know if he will ever come back. The only think left to do is hope that he won't forget us - that he'll come back. And hope that he will be able to come back... that there won't be anything keeping him from returning if he wants to." Even though it is unspoken, that possibility hangs over them like an evil shadow - the possibility of death. Mist shakes herself and raises her head once more to look again at the moon, wishing to forget the empty place in her heart where Falter should be. At least when he left, he left no evil memories... they were all happy times, when they were younger - carefree and content. Change always has to come, but does it have to bring with it sadness, so often?[/shadow]

[glow=brown,2,300]Bats...wonder what they taste like?
An audible growl came from Reth's stomach. He whined softly, and padded forward on quiet paws. In front of him was a huge, dark shape. Not trees, and it didn't look like any rock he'd ever seen. Reth decided to see what this was. A bat flew past, low: only a bit above him head. He snapped out at it, still wondering what it would taste like. It would ease his stomach, even if it didn't have a good taste. Another flew by.
The many bats out at twilight led Reth on a merry dance for his supper. He ran about, sometimes on his hind legs. Surely he would eventually catch one. There! He trotted over to the big...thing, to eat his dinner out of the wind...
Yes, a slight breeze had sprung up, and Reth shivered: with it, the breeze brought a clear scent - varg; there was more than one. Reth had no idea what to expect. He went silent, wondering if he was close enough to the other vargs for them to have heard him. He crept forward...and suddenly stopped. There were two vargs not far in front of him. A short whine escaped his lips, before he had a chance to stop it. He wondered what the vargs would do when they found him...[/glow]

[shadow=purple,left,300]Pulled out of her musings by a short whine - a whine from a pup. Mist raises her head and looks around into the night, her golden eyes glowing as they search for the source of the noise. After a moment, they fall on the pup, a small, dark brown mann, chomping on his dinner. Having always liked pups, Mist smiles and pads softly over to him, her dark grey coat blending in almost completely with the shadows of the trees and the stone castle. Reaching the pup, she smiles at him and sits down before speaking softly in greeting.
"Hello, young one. I don't believe I've ever met you... I'm called Mist... I'm in the Deor pack." Waiting for his answer, she moves herself slightly, coming out of the shadows into Tor's bright light so the pup can see her better and decide for himself what he thinks of her. At a sudden, sharp squeek in the air above her, Mist ducks instinctively, before laughing softly at herself. The squeeking was only a bat - one of many, wakened from its sleep in the dark corners of the castle ruins by the rising of the moon, and now it was out hunting for its dinner of the plentiful bugs stirring in the night. Mist watches the bat until it is lost to sight in the darkness, its small, dark shape blending in to the air perfectly, hidden on its hunting trip from its small prey.[/shadow]

[glow=brown,2,300]One of the vargs in front of him, seated under the big, dark...thing, a female, had obviously heard him, and she stood. As she walked over to him, Reth chewed thoughtfully. Bat was...weird. It tasted all batty...bleh...not too good.
Through his bat-full musings, he wondered what to do as the varg came closer. He decided to sit tight, keep on chewing, and find out what she would do. He gulped, and waited. To his surprise, when she sat down, she greeted him in a soft, friendly voice,Hello, young one. He let out a small squeak, his eyes wide, and flopped down on his stomach.
Even though she wasn't too big, the varg frightened him a bit. She towered over him, even when sitting. He looked up at her. Her head seemed almost just like a dark spot where the stars were absent. She then moved into the light. Her face was kind, sincere, but curious. She sat still, obviously awaiting an answer.
Reth summoned up enough courage to speak. "Er...'llo...I'm called Reth." There. He had done it. But she still seemed to be waiting for more. Reth licked his nose, and began to think of what else to say. "I'm, um, lost..." His puppy curiousity suddenly got the better of him. "'Scuse me, um, what is that big, dark thing? It looks like rock, but 've never seen any rock like 't b'fore."[/glow]

[shadow=purple,left,300]Mist smiles kindly at the pup as he squeaks and flops down onto his stomach. After a while - when he speaks - she nods in greeting as he introduces himself, and then, as he admits to being lost, she smiles again. As he looks nervously at the castle and questions her about it, she glances back at it for emphasis before replying. "That? It is an ancient castle, set up by man long ago, and also long ago - but not quite as long - it was abandoned...." She continues, softer this time. "Ye cannot even sent them anymore. The elements and time have cleansed this place of their presence."
After a moment of silence, she shakes herself and looks back at Reth. She studies him for a moment, noticing how small and young he is, before speaking again. "How did you come to be lost here, Reth? Or perhaps that is like asking how did you get lost anywhere..." She laughs slightly, realizing that how you would get lost would just to all of a sudden not recognize what was around you. "The castle is made of stone - that's why it looks it. But it is stone that was put there by man." She sighs before stopping. "So, Reth, are you in a pack? Or have you been thinking about a pack?"[/shadow]

[glow=brown,2,300]When Mist begins to explain about the...castle, Reth cocks his head in puzzlement, and one of his ears flopps over and hits him in the eye. With a short yelp, he jumps backward, and into the wall behind him. After another yelp he growls softly and mutters. "Must be...it sure feels like stone." He then shakes his head, still rather puzzled. But soon after starting, he stops and is still. With a stinging eye and a smarting tail, he thinks that it is probably best to simply stay still, before he does anything else.
Reth looks up at Mist, wondering if she is laughing behind her serious expression. He then remembers that she had asked another question: How did you come to be lost here, Reth?.
He licked his nose. "Wull...I was traveling with my mother's brother. I guess he felt he should look after me. Then there was rain, and I didn't see him anymore. I wasn't worried, because I felt like an awful bother, but I wondered what to do. So...here I 'm."
In answer to her other question, about the pack, "I haven't been around here long. I am not a part of any pack, and even though I s'pose I should join one, I'm not sure which I would be a valuable part of." He put his paw to his face, and peeked out around it to watch Mist's face.[/glow]
