The breeze sweept the winter land, makign a whoooshing sound as it picked up snow moving it about. A lone varg padded her head held high and her cyan optics scanning the terra. It was, for once, sunny and bright with an over cast of clear blue skies. A great aspect to have compared to the thick grey skies that so often blanketed the skies above.
The tan hued varg smiled as she pawed at the wet snow. The sudden warmness of the atmosphere had made the snow a bit wet and Sakita could almost imagien the snow melting away under the warm rays of Fenris. Tail wagging she walked on. Soon she would hear the loud honks of incoming geese. Though they were loud and annoying at least they brought the clue that spring was due.
Sakita stopped when she reached a shallow creek. Dipping her crown she lapped at the surface of the water, the icy feeling quenching her thirst. Licking her lips she yawned, smacking her lips bu she wondered. She had not seen many vargs out lately and it was such a good day. Nonethe less Sakita carried on. She fastened her gait when she reached the edge of the treeline. Beyond was a great meadow, as far as the eye could see. Sakita closed her eyes and imagined the fields covered in rich poppies and flowers, golden grass and the sweet smell of nectar. But now it was just a plain heap of snow. Never hesitating though Sakita sprang into the meadows. Takign giant leaps and galloping around rollign aroudn the snow as her tongue hung out. By the end of her next roll she was covered in snow from head to toe. Panting she smiled big but stopped. She sensed another's presence. "Hello? Is anyone else there?" Sakita spoke hackles slightly lifted but her cyan orbs could not detect anything...

With cub clumsiness, the dark hued wolf slowly pressed on atop the vast snow that stretched into the horizon, misleading the eye and sickening the wandering heart. The frequent churning wind swept numbly between earth and sky, never changing its course as the winter dragged by and the numbers of the dead quickly increased. The tall grasses that usually swept a number of feet tall were broken deep beneath the surface, and trees that had stuck out of the grasses were covered up in the white snow. Fenris glared down and made the snow sparkle and painfully sear into the travelers eye, mercifully making them see tons of little spots. The cub that wandered deftly was young, and its feet meandered about, giving up on finding a true path. Her blue eyes did not study the ground, but looked forward without seeing, the young blue eyes watering with physical pain. Her large, comical ears stuck from her narrow head, but drooped as far down as they could go, listless as the breeze toyed with them, board. Her ribs jutted from her sides, and hollows were forming around her eyes. She didn’t stand a chance of survival alone in the cruelty of winter.
Evander’s heart felt sick and her stomach was twisted as the meadow went on and on, never changing. She wished she had not left the wood she had first taken shelter in, and that she was sleeping in a thicket. She knew if it snowed heavily she would die, and she knew if she didn’t find food she would too. Only a faint hope that was sometimes smothered by the wind kept her going. She wished that something would change, and that somehow she would be back in a place full of greenery. But she wasn’t, and she just stared ahead, stumbling without noticing. Her clever eyes had taken on a dull look, and she had none of the fire that held her head high. She did not notice the growing black specks that slowly, after a few steps forward, began to grow bigger.
Her lively mind was empty, and only thoughts of food and warmth would fill it until she blacked out into nothing. The wind whispered mournfully, her head began to throb, her stomach to ache, her eyes began to water, her mind began to shut down, her paws began to stumble more often, her muscles started to ache, and her thoughts began to loose themselves inside of each other until she wasn’t thinking, just walking. “I can’t go on,” she thought tiredly, and she began to sink into the snow. It was cold, but her mind was colder. She knew she had given up, and that she was living food. She was just going to wait for death which seemed to grow less and less inevitable. Then she let the listlessness come over her again, and for timeless minutes of eternity she just lay their, cold seeping into her thin fur. In a process, she began to think again of Winged Arrow, her new found friend that she would probably never see again, the wind and the sky and the snow all closing around her for a grave, Peff, his smiling, nervous face looking at her with a wagging tail, Forts silent, wild look, his eyes holding a hidden smile, her father, looking tall and proud, his own maw open in a true smile, and Rachie, her clever eyes glinting back confidently at Evander, her mischievous smile etching her face. She would never see them again, never know if they were alive or not, and suddenly Evander’s blood began to pump and she jumped up quickly, fire in her eyes.
If her family really was alive, she couldn’t die until she dropped to the ground. She had to know and keep hoping that she would find them, that she wasn’t truly alone and that she did have something besides curiosity to live for. As weak and tired as the young cub was, her mind felt revived, and she let in a deep breath of cold wind, which now seemed adventurous and playful. It refreshed her even more, and sent a cold chill through her body. As long as she could think clearly she could go on. Evander began to walk slowly forward again, but her head was held high and her eyes glinted in determination. It was then, feeling more like herself even with her gnawing hunger, she saw the two shapes. As she walked closer she studied them until finally she could see the silhouettes of two wolves. She froze, hoping they wouldn’t see her. They were far bigger then cubs her age, and they could make an easy meal of her. But it dawned on her that there wasn’t anywhere to hide, and that going back wouldn’t help her. She had nothing but the hope that her family was alive, and that was only a hope. She would have to see if these wolves would feed her, even if it meant her own life. Grimly she stepped forward, her eyes set, her stomach churning nervously. The wind blew her onward, and she knew there was no going back.

The wind wiped the bare trees making the gnarly branches rustle and snap. But Sakita paid no mind to the sounds and eerie cracks. Sakita pawed at the snow, her steele gray talons slashing at the fine powder, trying to dig up what was underneath, but the layers of compressed ice were a force to great to reach the once green terra underneath. Sakita growled shaking her pelt rid of any snow that had clung onto her fine hairs during her trek. Cyan orbs glittered as she squinted, the sun's rays truly blinding and it was a wonder that she had not seen any body else foragign through the forrests upon this day. Sakita's tanned tassel swished back and forth making a faint whooshing sound. Licking her chops she continued on her trek leaving distinguished paw prints pon the snow but then she stopped. Ears erect and eyes darting Sakita tensed. She could sense somthing someone. The air though still brought only silence and Sakita sighed. She bent down to nip at her legs which bothered her with an irratating itch. Once reviving the itch she continued when a voice came out of nowhere. Kita let out a yell and turned snarling. She stood eyeing the varg and sighed. Sakita closed her eyes. It was only Aspen. Kita smiled now, reviving from the sudden escapade. "Greetings to you too Black Aspen." Sakita spoke softly shaking her muzzle, "You gave me quite a fright... never again" Kita let out a chuckle, her tassel swishing happily. Sakita yipped and trotted by the side of Aspen the long rows of meadow calling her name. But just then a figure caught her eye,. Sakita turned her optics landing sharply upon a dark hued wolf. Sakita cocked her head and nudged Aspen. Kita barked to the wolf, somewhat like a greeting and cocked her head. She was young, much like the age of Sakita herself.

Evander jumped into the air as the bark slammed into her auds, and snarling, she came down on all fours, her browning eyes wide and hunted. Her little heart was beating wildly, and she didn’t know the femora had given her a greeting bark. Instead, she felt trapped even with miles of prairie behind her, for she couldn’t turn back, and all she wanted now was to go forward. She shrunk up, snarling as fiercely as she could, trying to warn them away. She began to realize it was hopeless, but she kept at it, her tiny yellow teeth showing under curled lips. Ahead she saw the water, and her snarling died slightly. She hadn’t had water in so long, only snow. How good it would feel to have fresh liquid run down her throat. Her mouth began to feel dry, and she no longer cared about the Vargs. All she wanted was to drink. But how could she be safe while she sucked up the water? Staring at it dismally, madness starting to recede as she studied the water. It was a creek, the banks close together. She could jump it, get a drink, and run. She didn’t think that the others could, but instead got up and began to charge towards it, her eyes filled with concentration. With a leap, she was flying through the air when her front paws made a hard impact with the snow as her back legs hit air and down she rolled on the hard snow.

Kita turned on her heel and cocked her head towards the new pup who had arrived. Kita growled low to Aspen and wagged her tail. Aspen was a wolf she trusted dearly upon. Though Kita did not know many wolves she knew Aspen was a treasure. Kita watched as the pup dropped onto her stomach in surprise and Kita felt a tinge of regret. Kita wanted to bark an "its okay note" but before she could the pup had jumped up and started running towards her.
Kita barked shrilly in surprise, thinking that the pup was running towards her in a harsh manner but instead the pup wasaiming at the creek. Kita winced as she slid and topppled over. With a whine Kita trotted over to Evander, "yah alright?" Sakita said with a lopsided smile.

Cold snow blinded her eyes as she scuffled in the slowly melting substance. It bit into her thin fur and sucked at her skin. Flailing around, deeper and deeper into the cold, until finally she brought her head up just to see the youngest of the femora’s looking at her sympathetically. She jumped backwards with a snarl, but the words that greeted her were soft as they toyed with her auds. Slowly Evander’s little growls died away until she was staring at the wolf, sizing her up. It was only a cub, like herself, and it had bushy, tan fur that made a well of envy rise in the youngsters gut. Her own fur was thin and unkempt, and it never kept out the cold.
“I’d feel a lot better if I had something in my belly,” she growled pertly, gazing into the cubs eyes dominantly. The snow still seeped into her fur, and she stood up in the hole she had made, shaking the snow from her dark pelt. She looked back at the cub with shrewd, blue yellow orbs, her giant ears pricked forward on her head. “Can you hunt?” she asked bluntly, curious about the new Varg. Besides her family, she had not seen any other wolves except for Winged Arrow.

Kita shrugged her tanned fur bristling but not in anger, but too keep out the cold. Her cyan blue optics flickered at the thought of a hunt. Too bad she wasn't the best hunter in the world. Sakita turned her gaze towards the forests afar. How they had been rich with life when the time of spring was here. But it was soon to come.
Kita's auds pricked as she brought her stare back onto Evander, "What's your name?" she asked putting aside the hunintg question for the moment. She licked her chops and she growled, no her stomach had growled, Sakita had not eaten in days either and wished for somthing to fill her up keep her warm.
"I don't know if I have a full answer for that. I'm good at hunting rabbbits but I can't hunt herla for nothing." Kita admitted she then eyed Aspen askign her what they should do now. Kita had always looked to her best friend for the next moves.
