Brennil sighed wearily, the days seemed to be growing longer for him. His body seeming to be ageing far too quickly, wisps of grey fur already beginning to appear and contrast with the rest of his dark brown pelt.
But he kept moving, his nose practically touching the very ground he was treading but he barely noticed 'keep walking' he said to himself repeatedly, he had nowhere to go and yet he felt he had somewhere to be.
Before he knew it he found himself at the entrance of a cave, a sudden cold breeze having caught his attention. He shuddered. How did he not realise there had been a cave so closeby? Brennil shook the question from his mind denying the fact that his once acute senses were now often dull at best.
Brennil was still however a strong, courageous wolf, and the thought of a dark, omnious cave did not scare him in the least but was grateful for it for as he looked about him he realised just how far he had walked and the slope he had just climbed had been pretty steep. Brennil then turned his nose up to the sky, realising that it was so close to raining that he could practically smell it.
Brennil sighed again and looked at the caves large entrance once more, and then, cautiously, he entered the cave, wincing slightly as he realised his paws were covered in blisters.
It was so dark he could barely see his paws once he was in the caves domain, he shuddered again, the fur lining his spine stood erect, he did not get a good feeling from this place, but too tired to care anymore he lay down on the ground the idea of there only being darkness soon grew comforting as sleep began to slowly fog his mind and thoughts.
However the fog soon dispersed as he heard a noise. 'Who's there?!' Brennil asked, panic and shock causing his voice to become high-pitched, almost squeaky. No reply. Brennil decided to explore the cave as he could not tell by using his other senses what it was that appeared to be so near to him. Brennil's curiousity soon overcoming his nerves he took a few small steps in the direction of where he thought the source of the noise was. 'Hello?!' Brennil asked again, more confident now, perhaps he had imagined hed heard a noise.....
He was wrong. From just a few paces away from where he was standing there was a disgruntled grunt, a horrifically loud yawn and what sounded like oak trees groaning in a strong gale was the 'thing's' muscles creaking as it stood up.
Brennil watched as the silhouette of what he immediately recognised to be a bear slowly arched its back and stood before him. Brennil whimpered. He had never seen a bear so large in all his life, he could practically hear the bear's muscles rippling which was not a good sign having thought his hearing was bad.
Brennil had no choice but to watch as the bear's eyelids slowly opened, his eyes yellow and illuminating the cave, it already looked angry and it still didnt seem to know he was there. Brennil was rooted to the spot through pure fear now and in desperation he howled, hoping that a fellow wolf would hear this distress call and help him before it was too late.
Brennil couldnt help but shake in terror and gape in awe as the bear's bright piercing eyes stared directly at him, he closed his eyes trying to block those fiery, mocking eyes from his mind but now all he could do was pray that someone would come to save him.......
