I am working on getting this story published. This is just a taste from the opening scene.
The first rays of light were still beyond the horizon, hidden by a sleeping mountain range. A sky of stars, still dancing reflected upon the ice-crusted earth. The dog lifted its wolf like head, quietly yawning, stretching as it did. A fire from the night before was now just glowing embers with a tail of smoke floating skyward. The dog stood, shaking snow from its black and white coat. Its eyes fell upon paw prints, left behind by wolves that dared venture so close. A muffled snore caught the husky’s ears, causing them to prick with interest. Tenderly the dog padded forward. The young man asleep upon the ground with lips slightly parted, exhaled, his breath becoming a white vapor cloud. The dog took this opportunity to place a cold and wet nose on the sleeper’s parted lips. The young man woke with a start, spitting with disgust. “Yukon! You damn dog. I’m not sleeping beauty so don’t wake me like you’re Prince Charming.” The dog wagged his tail happily in complete innocence. Then he plopped his furry bulk on top of the man, blankets and all, paws kicking at the wakening sky. “Get off!” The young man pushed his lead dog from the warmth of his sleeping place.
Groggily the man crawled from under the comfort of his blankets and fumbled in his bag for the coffeepot, a blue thing speckled with white. He shivered slightly as he filled the pot with snow. He paused as a thought occurred to him; the fire was low. So he turned to put more wood on the fire.

Hmm... I am wondering... You write so many things about huskies and the tundra, and you seem to know so much about them. You wouldn't happen to live in upper Canada or Alaska, would you?

Sadly no I don't but I race professionally and I own a sprint dog team. I have done extensive research on the origins of sled dogs and the people who used them. Which was a plus in developing my RPG character. Especially since the people were from the general areas around Transylvania.
The dog in this particular story is my real life lead dog. He is quite a comic, but strangely loyal for a Siberian. Sitka has quite a few of his good traits.

Dog-sledding sounds like so much fun! And, alot of hard work. I live in Ohio, and we never see snow more than 4 inches deep here. But we usually only get 1 or 2. Sucks.
