This was done a while ago, so it isn't very good. T'was for an exam in seventh grade. Gained a level 6 for some odd reason, it isn't deserving of that -.-
The Wolf Within:
Phoebe sat in the living room, eyes transfixed on the clock. Time seemed to be stood still. The seconds hand seemed to be ticking on the spot. Phoebe held her velvet hair in her hands.
There was a knock at the door. She wheeled round and saw a figure though the frosted glass. She walked slowly toward the door, squinting to try and make sense of who it was. She opened the letter box.
“Open the door Phoebes, it’s me.” Maya was stood on the doormat, beaming down at her with her hazel eyes.
“You could have told me you were coming!” She replied whilst unlocking the door. She glanced upwards and saw the moon – a milky orb in the satin darkness.
“The moon is lovely tonight, isn’t it?” Maya sighed, her eyes glinting.
Maya’s school nickname was Phantom. No one knew how this nickname had come to be. Maybe because she drifted off without anyone noticing, or maybe because of her emotionless hazel eyes. But however it came to be, here she was stood right in front of her.
“Oh, come in.” Phoebe said, wondering why she was inviting her in – this was the school loner; surely this was school-orientated.
“Thank you.” Maya replied. She smiled, showing her unusually long canine teeth.
They walked into the living room. Phoebe sat down on the large, cream sofa whilst Maya lead on the floor – eyes still shining.
“I’m just going to the toilet, if that’s okay of course.” Maya chimed.
“Yeah, sure.” Phoebe replied.
Maya rose to her feet and walked out of the room.
Once again time stood still as Phoebe sat alone in the living room. She heard a scream outside and she froze, but then just sat through it. But then the screams faded and a dog yelped in fear at something, but this was nothing out of the ordinary.
The room slipped into a painful silence that was only broken by the ticking of the mantle clock. The wind began to moan outside. A storm was brewing. Rain began to fall and clouds covered the sky. The strange thing, she noticed, was that the clouds didn’t cover the moon.
A window blew open and rain swept into the room. Phoebe sighed, got up and walked cautiously toward the window. As she approached, she swore she heard a low growl from the garden. She reached for the window, grabbed the bottom of it and slammed it shut. She felt mesmerised by the beauty of the storm, not wanting to move but fearing why she couldn’t.
Outside, two small yellow orbs gazed at the window. Paws silently kissed the ground and lips curled back to reveal sharp fangs.
Phoebe caught a glimpse of two unnatural yellow eyes outside the window. She backed away fearfully only just beginning to wonder where Maya was.
She ran to the toilet door. She knocked.
“Maya! What are you doing in there!?” Her voice echoed through the house. There was no reply to her call – or was there?
It heard a voice. Ears pricked forward and listened intently. It didn’t understand. The call was fearful. It threw back its head and howled.
Phoebe listened. Her call to Maya had been answered by a long, almost mournful howl from a dog of some sort. She walked back into the living room, her mind drowning in thoughts.
‘What if she’s fallen asleep?’
‘What if she’s dead?’
‘Maybe she left without saying goodbye.’
She felt swamped by fear as the house again fell into silence.
It saw it’s chance. The window – it wasn’t bolted. But it thought it should get in thought causing too much noise.
Maya entered the room again.
“Sorry I dosed off” She mumbled. Her hair was a mess and her fingernails dirty. She walked towards Phoebe, who now sat on the sofa.
“Okay, I thought you had!” Phoebe joked. Really, she’d thought she had gone. Maya smiled, showing her pure white teeth.
“Oh, one moment.” She ran up the stairs, her gait faster and longer than usual.
She reached the top of the stairs and turned into Phoebe’s room. She turned the light on and pushed the door to. She closed her eyes.
Finger and toe nails began to grow, then fell off onto the carpet, only to be replaced by long, brown claws. Her feet and hands stretched out of proportion and she grinned as fur began to sprout on her arms, legs and stomach. Her limbs began to elongate as her spine began to move into place.
Phoebe swung open the door. Before her was Maya. But not the Maya she knew. This Maya was mangled with long, lanky limbs and more hair than anyone she had seen in her life.
She swung round. Her face began to grow and her muzzle became longer. Large, pointed teeth sliced through her gums. She fell onto all fours. Ears moved to the top of her head. Eyes glazed over and then turned a ghostly yellow. She curled her lips back into a snarl and a terrifying growl rumbled from her throat.
Phoebe screamed. Her body tensed at the sight that filled her eyes. A wolf. Or was it? No. This was Maya. One thought circled in her mind. Run.
It’s shoulder blades moved to match it’s spine. The transformation now complete. She – or more suitably ‘it’ – padded forward on huge paws, the muscles in it’s legs rippling beneath it’s skin. Hunger and anger took hold. No longer sane, this it knew would change her in human form too. It stared up into the terrified face of the human before it. Food. The creature’s long, pink tongue lolled out of it’s maw and saliva dripped from it’s teeth.
Phoebe’s fear took control. Her first reaction – run. She let her legs carry her down the stairs but at the third step from the bottom she slipped, fell and landed on her ankle. A loud snap echoed through the house as she landed. Pain shot through her body like a white hot dagger and she screamed.
It appeared at the top of the stairs, a sort of smile on it’s black-edged lips. It lowered itself to the ground and like a coiled viper released the tension she stored in her muscles and sprang upon the helpless form below. It was all over.
“I suppose you want to know what happened to Phoebe. Well I’ll tell you. I came round, there was a scream, I opened the door and she was torn to pieces at the bottom of the stairs.” Maya’s cold voice echoed through the police station.
“We have reason to believe she was killed by a dog. Bite marks found on her arms were of canine origin. But we found no dog breed on the database that matched the jaw size. Maya.. What killed her?”
“You won’t believe me if I tell you. You’ll lock me up and I’ll be kept in a scientist’s lab.” She moaned.
“Maya. What killed her?”
“The wolf within me.” She smirked, her hazel eyes glinting. Limbs stretched and muzzle grew and the last thing they heard was blood-curdling screams from the people in the room.
Post your thoughts. I know it isn't very good
