Tarn and his group had been gone for days. They searched far and wide, but no trails of Fais were to be found. Once, after a long day of wandering, Kal stopped.
‘The cub will not be found, Tarn,’ he growled. ‘We are tired and longing for food, water, and proper shelter. The days grow cold and solemn, and still no trace of him.’
‘He will be found,’ the Alpha replied simply and firmly, a snarl appearing on his jaws. ‘My duty is to protect my pack.’
‘The whimpering fool will not have survived, Tarn,’ said Fen. ‘He is weak and young. He would not have lived this long in these demanding conditions.’
‘He is my son! Do you not know this, or have you been living under a stone all your days? You do not know what it is like to have such responsibility!’
‘Give up, Alpha. He is dead.’ said Kal. At this, Tarn’s snarl grew suddenly and he lunged forward and bit Kal’s ear firmly. It was an extreme dishonour to call a wolf by their title, especially by a fellow pack member, and the Alpha already knew the possibility of his son’s death, but he would not accept that fact.
Kal whined and shook his head vigorously to rid himself of the terrible bite, but Tarn’s jaws were strong and the grip was not released until several long moments filled with excruciating pain.
The male Alpha shook himself out and snorted, then trotted away. Kal’s ear was severely injured and it was turning red. The rest of the wolves looked nervously at Tarn, then at Kal, and then slowly followed their leader.

Just a little excerpt of my short story (full story = around 6,300 words)... It's not very good but I think it's the only fairly-good story that has actually been completed (I always get writer's blocks halfway though and have heaps of stories lying around gathering dust)...
Enjoy!
