Dane padded quietly through the starless night. In his mind, he hoped not to encounter anyone or anything that would disturb his hunt. Come to think of it, he hoped he wouldn't meet anyone anyway. Solitary by nature, the unfortunate and untimely death of his parents had left him more distant and cold than normal. His puphood had been normal enough, his strong Dragga of a father had taught him to hunt well, and his kind mother had nourished him, teaching him to be caring and loving. Obviously it was his father that had the strongest affect in the long run. He had no time for 'friends', no time to b friendly. He had a job to do, and that was to take care of himself.
Through the trees ahead of him,he could see his prey start to falter, and finally, collapse on the ground. He had been following a badger he had wounded, but had managed to escape his jaws. Not for long. Now, the tired lera had given up, the loss of blood causing it to collapse with weakness. Dane followed the vermillion trail left by the lera in the snow, and snatched the animal up in his jaws. He would take it home now, back to his abandoned fox hole to eat.

Dakota quitely stalked through the thick trees. His sleek dark coat was proving useful to camoflough him amoung the dark night, and his well toned mucules were fairing well agianst the miles that he had travled that day.
Dakota wasn't running from anything at the moment. Not really anyway, he was more or less wondering throughout the dark woods looking for anything of intrest. So far there hadn't been much, a few lera here and there but no sightings of other Putnar. Hearing something Dakot tipped his dark ears forward and trained his emerald eyes in the direction of the sound. Curious by nature he moved off in that direction not really thinking about the possibility that it could be something dangerous. As he got closed Dakota began to smell the thick scent of blood in the air. Although he had eaten recently he still felt his jams begin to grow wet with salavia.
A few feet away Dakota finally spotted the moving varg. He had a fresh kill in his mouth and seemed to be moving with a purpose. Dakota started to take a step forward but quickly changed his mind, should he really walk up on this other wolf?

Almost home.... he thought to himself as he trotted along at a quickened pace. The taste of blood on the tip of his tongue was driving him mad and he had to resist the urge to just drop his kill and break into it now. His muscles rippled beneathe his dark coat as he quickly made his way through the dark trees, long, cream legs carrying him quicklyto his destination.
The occasional snaps of branches and twigs made him feel a bit uneasy, not because he was scared, but because he couldn't help but feel he was being watched. His ears twitched in annoyance as he looked around him, his mismatched eyes searching cautiously as they pierced through the dark. Convincing himself once again that he was alone, he continued onward, the mound of raised earth that was his temporary home was now visable between the trees.
By chance,he happened to turn and sawa black varg staring at him through green-tinted eyes. his hackles rose immediately, his ears laid back flat as he growled through his kill. The fog coming from his nose and mouth gave him the appearance of a furious monster or demon from folklore, jaws dripping with blood onto the lightly packed snow at his feet.

Suprised Dakota cocked his head to one side. He knew he would get noticed eventualy but this hadn't been the reaction he was expecting. He looked at the varg's tense muscle and flat ears. If thats how the stranger wanted it then that was fine with him. Dakota was more than willing to be friendly but he could also defend himself if the situation called for it.
Dakota took a step or two forward in a act of defiance and his own hackles rose in anger. He lifted his bushy tail twards the sky and layed his jet colored ears agianst his head. The twigs and dry leaves seemed to crackle underneath his large paws and when his velvet lips curled up in a wicked snarl they revealed 2 fine rows of stunning white teeth paired with sharp fangs. Although he was putting on a fighting image diffrent thoughts were going through his head. Imediatly Dakota had noticed the wolf's strang mis-matched eyes. It was an odd feature but he could't stop looking at them. He also wondered how this situation was going to play out. If it turned into a fight Dakota thought he had an ok chance, but he didn't have alot of experiance so the odds were probaly agianst him.
Shoving the thoughts to the back of his mind Dakota let out another deep snarl the warm fog of his breath escaped from his mouth and curled in the air around him.

((Nice post!))
He hadn't expected this stranger to fight back...Was he going to attack him for the sake of his kill? If that was the case, he would fight, even though his shelter was but a few yards away. The noir varg before him hadn't looked like he intended to pick a fight before Dane had started growling, maybe he could be reasoned with... The dead badger dropped to the ground as his muzzle scrunched up in an evil glare. Opening his mouth to speak, his hot breath smelled of blood and vapors rose from his throat to the sky, as if a spirit were being released as he spoke. "What business have you spying on me from where you stand?" He sat down patiently awaiting the reply, to show that a fight did not have to unfurl between the two of them. his hulking body loomed protectively over his kill, just incase this varg tried to pull anything tricky..

(Thanks!! You too! ) Startled yet agian at the strange varg's reaction Dakota paused a minute to think. This encounter was proving to be diffrent than any he had experianced so far in his young life. He looked from the badger to the now sitting wolf. He had no intention of robbing him of his kill, as far as he was concerned you only robbed others when you couldn't survive for yourself. And there should be an element of shame in commiting this act. Looking back into th mis-matched eyes of the varg infront of him Dakota was glad that the threat of a fight seemed to have passed. "My name is Dakota", he almost shouted. "I was simply passing through the forest when I came upon you. Is there a problem with that?", he asked. Dakota wasn't naturaly so snappy but he was uneasy in the presance of this varg.

Dakota didn't seem to be interested at all in his kill, and this set his mind at ease a bit. The piercing glare subsided, but his hackles remained on edge to show he was still wary of this stranger... Secretly, he was glad there was no need for a fight. Often times he seemed tough, though one might wonder if he was mostly talk. In his mind, however, there was no doubt that he meant business. Although he seemed to pick a few fights, he had never really had to physically fight, though he was sure in his mind's eye that he would come out the victor.
This youngster seemed full of life, normally his sassy tone would have set Dane off, but tonight, for some reason, was a little different. A smirk made its way across his light muzzle. "My, my, we've got a bit of an attitude problem, don't we?" he taunted, knowing full well he was no better. "Its no problem at all, in fact, I'm on my way out now..." Content with himself, he picked up his prize and trotted away to his den, surprised at how mellow his actions had been towards the pup.

Agian Dakota tipped his head in confusion. No matter how hard he tryed he couldn't seem to figure this varg out. He tryed not to show it but he was getting more and more interested in what the wolf was up too. And regretably the varg's comments annoyed him even more. More than anything though he did not want to be just walked away from.
Watching him as he moved Dakota decied that he would follow the wolf a little further. What would be the harm of it? He didn't have anywhere els to go and he needed to find away to curb his curiosity about the stranger.
Quitely Dakota began to take long striding steps after the light colored wolf

His senses told him he was being followed, no doubt by the dark wolf, Dakota. Normally he would've turned around and snapped at the curious creature, but tonight he was in a surprisingly good mood. Maybe it was because he knew this one wasn't after his food. Without turning around once, he made his way to his fox den, but instead of going insed, he turned around and stared at Dakota with his offset eyes. "Don't you have somewhere to be?" he asked, his voice was cold and harsh, though he wasn't entirely sure he could change the tone of it.

"Maybe", Dakota answered. "But perhaps where I am supossed to be is right here", he flashed Dane a cocky smile and twitched his ears from side to side in order to give him a care free look. Why was he teasing this wolf anyway? He didn't even know him, but he didn't seem to want to leave. Even the strange encounted that they had shared so far provided more compainship that Dakota had experianced in a while. And anyway it was somewhat nice to have hear another voice for once. Dakota had begun to whisper to himself as he traveled for the forest and it worried his, so he was glad to at least for the moment have someone els that was talking.
Dakota looked past Dane at the empy fox den. "Did you kill the fox that lived there and take its home?", he asked. He didn't have anything agianst the kill, but in this cold weather it was rare to find such an empy den, so he wondered if there was another explenation.

Confusion stained his handsome face as the dark varg spoke. But perhaps where I am supossed to be is right here...What did that mean? He eyed the varg warily, unsure what trickery was unfolding. Why was he here, if not interestedin his kill? Nonetheless, Dane sort've like the young wolf's attitude. He provided a match of wits at least, and who knows, maybe even a worhty conversationalist. He was secretly glad for the company, though it was the last thing he would ever admit, especially to himself. The snarl did not return to his lips and the ever-present growl seemed almost diminished from his deep voice.
"No, I did not kill for this shelter...my mother showed it to me when I was but a young pup like yourself," it was awkward how he spoke to Dakota this way, even though he himself wasn't much older. He was Dakota's elder by only about two seasons. "We would meet here and she would tell me stories... the scent ofwolf must have scared the old tenants away, for I have never seen a fox here. I have made it my own." He surprised himself at how much he was opening up to this stranger, maybe he had found someone to talk to afterall...

Dakota watched the emotions as they moved across Dane's face. He seemed to be thinking about something but Dakota wasn't quite sure what. He opened his mouth and let his pink tounge roll out as he started to pant. His breath started to make little clouds of fog infront of him and the cool air chilled his lungs as he took each breath. There was definatly something to this new stranger, Dakota was definatly intrigued. Though there was a tough image on the outside Dakota wondered if there was maybe something more underneath.
Closing his mouth Dakota listened as Dane spoke of his home. So there was another story he thought. He wondered what other stories the wolf was hiding. Dakota decied that maybe he would hang around a little longer just to see if he could find them out.
Rolling onto his back Dakota looked over at Dane. "You can eat", he said "I am quite comfortable where I am".

Almost forgetting it was there, Dane looked down at his kill. The dead badger seemed unappealing now, and did not interest him much. What interested him now, was this young varg he had met. Nonetheless, he knew he had to eat. That was why he had went hunting, after all. The snow was pushed into great mounds on either side of him as he lowered his body to lay on the ground. Taking a few bites from the badger [more to satisfy his stomach than his piece of mind] he nudged the rest of it away with his nose. It did not seem to matter now whether or not the black varg was after his kill, he had lost his appetite for one reason or another and was now giving it up. Whether Dakota would take it or not, he did not know, though there were always the scavengers if he declined.
There was something about this varg before him that was different than anything he had ever seen. Maybe it was his carefree attitude and genuine interest for company rather than harsh sarcasm and stupidity that Dane found so intriguing. Or maybe it was the emerald eyes staring back at him as he let parts of his story unfold. Although his eyes were oddities in themselves, he had never met a varg with such striking green orbs as Dakota possessed. He looked up at him through his own icy orbs, and then spoke: "What brings you so deep into the woods on this night? Have you too lost your pack?" Perhaps this stranger had more in common with Dane than he thought.

(((NOTE: Anything written in italics is a flash back)))
Dakota leaned his ears forward as he listened to Dane's words. Suddenly the older varg didn't seem so interested in his own kill, which Dakota thought was odd since he had been so quick to defend it earlyer when they had both stood face to face in the woods.
"My pack" he whispered. Suddenly Dakota's eyes seemed to glaze over as he was swept into a flash back of that day....
"Koty!", his mother called from outside the mouth of the cave. "You can come out! I promise there are no monsters out here waiting to eat you!" The little black pup crouched within the cave's walls. His mother's sweets voice soothed him but he still wasn't sure if he could belive her. Creeping forward a little Dakota poked his fuzzy head outside of the cave. His striking green eyes flashed in the sunlight, complementing his equaly dark black coat. "Are you sure?", he whispered in a voice that was still thick with the highpitched squeeks only puppies can make. "Don't you remember the stories of the legands momma?", he asked. Before his mother could answer Dakota's big grey father ran to the mouth of the cave. "Balkar!", the Dragga panted. "We have to get out of here! Get the cubs!" Within secands Dakota's homeland was swarming with ravaging varg snarling and biting at his family. Dakota seemed to black out for a while, and he couldn't tell what was going on but when he awolke his family lay in the snow, now in their forever sleep. Looking around Dakota could see his father's strong body and his mother's kind face amoung those lost. Crawling back into the cave the young pup shut his eyes "See momma there really were monsters" he whispered into the night.....
Coming back to reality Dakota blinked and looked over at Dane. "Yes", he said. "I lost them when I was still a very young cub. The Balkar took them from me", he added not without a touch of bitterness. "I have been wondering ever since. How about you? Where is your family?"

((Good post..Gave me shivers )) His offset gaze dropped to the pure snow before him. Nature was so simple, so perfect...If only his life could be the same. Pure and flawless, like newly fallen snow. Staring back up at Dakota, his gaze shifted from the beauty of winter to the tragedy of his story, not that his was much better. "I'm sorry for your loss," he offered his sympathy, a rarity in itself, though he knew too well that it did nothing to ease the pain. Taking a deep breath, he let out a sigh sending a white cloud swirling around his muzzle before rising into the night sky, and began his story... "It was the day of my first hunt," these words alone sent memories flooding back to him, a smile crept its way across his muzzle. Not one of sarcasm or cruelty, for once, but one of genuine happiness. "I had caught a rabbit with the aid of my father. He was so strong..The Dragga of our pack. Anyway... I was relaying the message of my great accomplishment to my mother, when all of a sudden the forest was filled with loud thunder...Manmade." His voice became grave once again, filled with enough sadness and coldness to last a lifetime. "From there...it mattered not how strong my father was or how gentle the expression of my mother...They couldn't escape man and their dogs. I ran, to this very spot, as fast as I could. I've been alone ever since..." He looked back up at Dakota, partially to see if he was still listening and also because he wanted to see his reaction. ((Did they even have guns back then?....))
