((Lol, thanks! ^^) "Thanks", Dakota replyed. It seemed that Dane really ment what he said. And even if he didn't Dakota found some confort in just telling someone els his heartache. Watching Dane's eyes shift as he looked around Dakota also began to notice just how clean and perfect the snow looked right now. Everything seemed so white, except for the small area around Dane's dead badger where the blood had oozed out into the icy blanket. Dakota's eyes opened in a mixture of horror and amazment. He hadn't ever really had an encounter with men before but their reputation proved them to be the Greatest Putnar of All. All varg were taught at a young age to stay away from their encampments. But Dakota wondered if his natural curiosity would have eventually led him to man anyway. "Honestly, I am sorry", Dakota said. "It is terrible to lose your family at all let alone all at one time. Or at least that is how it seemed to me. But yeah...." Dakota knew he was begining to ramble a bit, but he just couldn't think of something to fill the deep silance that now surrounded the area. (I don't know, but we can pretend )

(Page 2...Ohhh yeaaah!!!!))
It felt as if a chunk of the burden he carried on his shoulders had lifted itself and floated away. He never knew how talking about something, let alone something so painful to bring up, could feel so...good. It was unfortunate, what had happened to his pack. For while all varg are taught to avoid man, man had found them at home and attacked without warning. And all because of a stupid rumor that wolves were evil...Dane shook his heavy head. Man would stop at nothing to destroy everything he did not understand...
He smiled again at Dakota, he seemed to be a decent varg, something he had been hiding from all this time to avoid opening up to someone. Now, it was too late. Friendship was almost something he couldn't avoid...or at least an alliance of some kind. He nudged the badger towards Dakota once more, "You can have this...It's still warm, the best time to feast." His voice was now friendly, a complete change seemed to have gone through him, though he knew not why or how.

Dakota watched Dane's face to see if he could detect any of the older varg's emotions. He seemed to be opening up more. It was definatly a change from the wolf he had first met in the woods. Dakota wondered if perhaps Dane had just been alone so long that he didn't know how to act around others. Or maybe his emotions were buryed so deep inside that it was just easy for him to put on his tough act. But than agian, it could all be his real personality.
Smiling Dakota looked over at the dead remains. He was growing hungry now, and accepting the offer would give him another reason to stick around for awhile longer. This varg seemed really interesting, and nice enough once you talked to him for a bit. And Dakota was grateful for the company. "Thanks", he said standing and walking over to where the badger lay. Clumps of snow clung to his dark coat making his body look like it was coated with a thin layer of frosting.
Digging his muzzle into the kill Dakota quickly devoured what was left. Looking back at Dane he licked the thick blood from his now stained jaws.

Compassion was something he had buried long ago. He had not felt the slightest bit of emotion since the death of his family, and they were the last varg ever to be graced with his bright and charming personality. With their passing, a bit of Dane had died as well, though some of the old flame seemed to be rekindled with the meeting of this varg. He had forgotten what it meant to release the burden of the world and look at things through a clear mind and open eyes.
Though a kerl, he did not wander much, unlike other lone varg. Maybe it was because some miniscule part of him found refuge and security here, so close to this place he had frequented with his mother? He was glad to see that Dakota had accepted his gift, however small it might have been. Though perhaps, there was a greater gift forming. Soft, white flakes were falling from the sky, landing on the pelts of the two varg and blanketing the forest once more over the stale, white coat from suns ago.
When all that remained of the badger was a stripped carcass, the forboding silence returned. Attempting a start at some sort of conversation, Dane spoke, his young but deep voice piercing the silence like a knife. "Do you come across many varg in your travels?" The words seemed to roll effortlessly off his pink tongue, though speaking outloud [let alone with another varg] was a concept that was new to him.

Looking at Dane, Dakota could understand why he might now hide his emotions and feelings. The only reason Dakota hiself hadn't turned out that was is because he seemed to now thrive on others. Since his family was lost at such a young age and at such a crutial point in his life [His first venture out of the cave] he had been robbed of much of his young life. And now it seemed he was almost desperate to fill up his life agian.
Dakota looked straight into the air. The snow was starting to fall agian, a sure sign that the tempature would soon drop even lower. He chuckled a little as a fat flake landed on the end of his nose. It quickly melted into a cold liqued and ran like a little stream off of his muzzle. Snow was a recent development for the young varg, as most things seemed to be these days.
Hearing Dane speak agian Dakota looked back over. "Not really", he said. "In fact you are probaly the first. I saw a dog once though.....'man's best friend' you know?" There was a little bit of bitterness in his voice agian. What had ever drove those first wolves to take the steps into the man's territory.

Dane's eyes regained their coldness and his lip curled back in a snarl at the mention of dogs. "Traitors, all of them..They live with man, they hunt with man, it makes me sick..." He had a hard time controlling his emotions, especially when it was anger and especially when something reminded him of his bitter past. He caught himself though, and his expression returned to an apathetic one, absent of pain or anger. Staring blankly into the snow falling around him, it took him a minute to snap back to reality.
"You are the first varg I have seen in a long while," he paused momentarily before adding, "and one of the nicest." He knew that one of the reasons most varg were so quick to avoid him was because of his nasty disposition, though Dakota had seemed to see right through that. How and why still puzzled him, though that didn't matter now. As of now, he had someone to talk to.

Dakota recognized Dane's hate for both man and dog. He didn't much like them himself but he had never had the encounters that Dane shared with those species. Seeing the hate return to Dane's odd eyes and watched his mouth curl up in a growl. Obviously this wasn't a favored subject for him. Dakota could at least count himself lucky that there wern't always constant reminders of what took his family around. You didn't really come across alot of Balkar in this part of the wood, or at least not that Dakota had found so far.
Dakota grinned at Dane. "Thanks", he said. "It has been nice having someone to talk to for a change." Dakota was surprised about how well Dane seemed to be warming up. It was like the varg had 2 diffrent personalities and the were on a constant battle to see who was going to get center stage in Dane's life. He felt bad that the wolf had to go through such a struggle to get his life into control, but than agian Dakota didn;t really know what he was doing in life either.

((Ooh, you read Dane so well! ^^))
He mustered a smile, something that would've surely broken his handsome face but a few hours ago. "It has been nice having someone to talk to for a change." his thoughts exactly... He had never been so open with anyone before in his young life, though probably because this young varg before him posed no threat to his ego or feelings thusfar. He thought of what Dakota had said of the Balkar, he had never encountered one, and felt lucky that he hadn't. Studying Dakota's strong face, he seemed so full of integrity. Dane wondered what he would do if he ever came face to face with a member of the Balkar. Would the hatred inside of him fuel his pent-up anger enough for revenge? It was hard to envision at first, though Dane was sure this varg could turn nasty if he had to. Afterall, he had returned Dane's sour attitude earlier, hadn't he?
The infinite darkness of the night sky contrasted with the overwhelming brightness of the fallen snow. Though no stars were present, the descending flakes twinkled as they fell, mimicing a star-filled sky. No wind was blowing, which left the temperature bearable for the varg and most of the other lera as well. Although Dane could easily retreat to the warmth of his 'den', he found it much more interesting chatting the night away with this varg like two chattering birds in a tree. The list of topics in his mind was growing shorter, having not been very long in the first place. What was there to be said of a varg not used to speaking?

((Lol I love Dane's personality ^^ Nice post by the way))
Dakota watch the smile move slowly over Dane's powerful jaws. It was the most recent emotion that had played across the lighter varg's face, and Dakota couldn't help but notice that the smile seemed to be coming closer together now. Dane seemed to be warming up more, and loosing a little of his icy edges, at least for now. And while their stories were similar Dakota still felt that they had enough interesting things to talk about, or at least he hoped so, Dane's life interested Dakota and he hoped the varg would continue to open up. Both of the young varg had experianced so much in their young life already...that it seemed a shame not to share it with someone els. Especially when the experiances were so similar to each other.
Dakota's own lopsided smile returned to his face as he watched Dane. Despite what Dakota was thinking in his head the silance was beginng to surrond them agian. Still though the older wolf hadn't made a move twards his den yet and that seemed like a good sign. Streatching his dark legs out in front of his and flexed his toes. "Sooo......", he kind of trailed off a bit trying to think of something to say. "Whats with those mix-matched eyes of yous? Is it like both of your parents colors of something? My geen eyes must have come from far far back in my lines since none of my pack had them. But I have never seen your eyes like yours before...."

((Thanks, you too! Dakota's such a goof! XP))
Dane had been wondering about Dakota's green eyes as well. His question now answered, it was time for his response, though he knew naught why his shining orbs were the color they were. Before speaking, he repositioned himself and stretched his own long legs out, the light cream tint of them contrasted with the white snow as he pushed it away. Opening his maw to speak, his breath made designs in the fog. "My mother had warm eyes of amber, and my father piercing eyes of gold. I don't know why one of mine stayed blue...Like it forgot to change or something. I wish it wouldn't have, it makes me look like a fool.." he grumbled something inaudible to himself and looked back up at Dakota. The young varg before was like a flame that he begun to melt away his icy disposition, and deep inside, he was thankful.
Learning how to talk to someone all over again was a tedious challenge indeed...Like learning how to walk or hunt for the first time, it took practice, and practice was something Dane had not had since the death of his parents. His features remained cold, save for the smile on his muzzle that seemed misleading. How could one so cold appear so genuinely happy? It was a mystery indeed, to him, and everyone else...

((Lol yes, yes he is))
Dakota nodded when Dane finished speaking. Although he found the varg's shining orbs interesting he decieded not to speak out loud. With all the talk of his family and past it looked to Dakota's eyes like Dane was freezing up agian. He diecided that Dane shouldn't have to relive his past just to curb Dakota's curiosity. Opening his jet colored muzzle Dakota let his pick tounge roll out. It contrasted greatly to his dark coat and his breath curled out around him. Tipping his thick ears forward he tryed to catch what Dane was mumbling but he had no luck.
To Dakota Dane appered to be struggling with so much already in his young life. Dakota continued to think to himself. Perhaps Dane just hadn't handled his family's death well. He seemed to have just shut down. Taking a deep breath Dakota kept watching Dane to try and find more pieces that he could use to solve this older varg's puzzling backround.

What is he staring at? He thought silently to himself. He thought of snapping outloud at Dakota for having been so rude, but decided better of it and put the bitter half of himself in check once again. he had battled with himself a lot this night, though he seemed to be winning more than ever. Dakota was probably just trying to figure out what was swimming around in Dane's head. If he found the answer, Dane hoped he would give it to him as he wondered also why he thought the things he did. "If you want to say something, don't bother holding back. Both our pasts have been trecherous enough, and the mere thought of mine could never compare to what actually happened," he said, breaking the silence once more to let Dakota know he wasn't that bothered by his life story.

"Oh sorry", Dakota said. "I'm not hiding anything from you. I just tend to do that, I zone out when I am thinking. Which I am doing alot." "Maybe it comes from being on my own for so long, I don't know....its just a reflex to say everything in my head I guess."
Dakota was trying to think of something els they could talk about when he thought he saw something in the trees behind Dane. Standing up Dakota turned to Dane. "Just a second", he said. "I think I see something." Walking over the snow covered earth Dakota began to whisper to himself agian. "What the heck am I doing....I don't even really see anything over here"
Deciding to bring a little more fun into their current chat party Dakota scooped up a big mouth of the clean white snow [Ahh he did it agian! ^^] and trotted back over to Dane. Laying back onto the ground Dakota moved the snow around in his mouth a bit and puffed [PUFFED!] his cheeks full of the snow. I am such a idiot, he thought to himself. I am making a fool of myself for no reason. None the less he flashed Dane a snowy smile as his green eyes danced in the night.

"That's alright," he replied, "I do that too...whether I'm thinking or not." His mind seemed to wander again, like a ship without a harbor until Dakota's voice snapped him back to reality once again. His dark ears perked up as he whipped his head around to look behind him. He hadn't heard anything...but if someone was there, they were in for trouble if they were looking for a fight. Judging by the size of Dakota, he was sure they could take on another varg no problem [as if he couldn't take one on all by his lonesome anyway]. Off-set eyes watched Dakota intently, but saw nothing of what Dakota was speaking of. His neck came back around as he relaxed his tense muscles once again. There was nothing there.
A few moments later, Dakota came prancing back, his mouth full of the cold snow that coated the forest floor. Dane cocked his head slightly to the side as he watched the black varg puff his cheeks out and smile foolishly. Although he didnt get the joke, he couldn't blame Dakota for trying. He couldn't remember the last time he had had any 'fun', and forgotten the meaning of the word. Nonetheless, he smiled back at Dakota.

((Oh, I am sure Dane totally could ^^))
Emptying the snow out of his mouth Dakota looked sideways at Dane. "Sorry, I am just odd", he suddenly said. "Half the time I have no idea what I am even doing." Dakota looked around and noticed that it was getting later by the moment. The sky was now consiterably darker than it had been when he had first encountered Dane. While it wasn't to cold the tempature had definalty dropped and he was sure that Dane must be eger to get back to the warmth of his den.
Standing Dakota looked down at Dane. "I don't want to keep you.", he said a little shakaly. Dakota would have rather stayed than leave. Taking a couple steps back Dakota blinked at Dane and smiled, no matter what happened tonite Dakota would see Dane agian. He planned to even follow the varg if he had too, Dakota decied he needed to keep the little compainship he now had.
