In something that felt like a dream state, Atalanta looked across the valley of Deor. Covered in sparse patches of untrodden snow it looked abandoned. Years had swirled by since Atalanta had been in her pack's residence. Her memories were darkened -- she felt like a stranger in this land. The smells, the sights, everything was foreign to her. The scent on the blades of grass, though faint and almost untraceable, was peculiar. It was no longer the home that she remembered. The home, the family she fought so hard to be apart of. It was gone. The sikla had memories that seemed fictional. They were now only dreams that drifted away from her like clouds in a wind storm.
She was nearly eight now. It was a miracle she had made it this far- lived this long. Alone. Atalanta was used to it by now. She had grown accustomed to the lifestyle of a wanderer. She knew how to hunt, and hunt well at that. She had a thick coat and tough pads. A thick hide and a tough heart.
The wind kicked up a patch of snow in the valley and it danced into the sky. The snow sparkled; reflections of sunlight speckled through the clear blue vast.A tough heart... her heart ached for warmth. It ached for the fun times she had experienced when she was but a young wolf. The sikla's ears dropped, and her head sank to the ground. Her black tail hung limp behind her as she stood on the hill, overlooking her home with dreary eyes.
Atalanta gathered on the ground. She tucked her black nose under her tail. "Come back..." She whimpered.
