As he collided with the femme his own lean form hit the ground with an amazing force, driving his lungs to total emptiness. Rolling to his side, he heaved for air, laughing loudly with closed eyes and coughing at the same time before pulling himself slowly to his feet and turning his gaze to Capella. Her still-wet pelt a magnet, laden with all sorts of decaying, earthen things. With a grin on his face he realized that he should feel terrible; if his own lush coat had suffered he would have not only been furious, but utterly desolate- though Capella pinned her ears, Dax knew that she was kidding. Or at least he hoped, that is. He padded toward Capella, staring openly at her with a fumbling grin.
And then she was springing toward him, and his face dropped. He had time only to splay his legs, though it was fruitless. She bowled him over, even with her slender form, and he cannoned into the damp earth. The impact not only knocked his breath away, but also all thought. He lay there, belly up and paws hanging limply, dazed, conscious only that Capella was nearby. Gingerly shaking his head, Daxton waited until the world stopped spinning to scramble to his feet, sides hauling air in in great, raspy gasps. Looking at the fae with gleaming eyes, he caught his breath, and whispered, ”You,” Letting his gaze run over her bodice, he trotted over towards her, chuckling. ”You got me. Do I still need to eat that beetle, or can we call it a tie?” He lowered his muzzle and brushed it across her cheek with a grin, tail wagging fiercely.
Deor was close now, and the anticipation was something he reveled in, but he doubted he would be nearly as excited if Capella hadn't been traveling with him. She was different, calming. Her presence made him want to keep himself composed, but she wasn't so stoic that he felt like his obvious immaturity would drive her away. Essentially, he was able to be himself. While he was careful to not cause emotionally injury, she didn't seem to mind his inquisitive nature or his occasional bouts of nervous stammering, and for both of those reasons (and more), he was exceptionally grateful.
What was he thinking about? Oh, Deor. Of course. His, hopefully, new pack. Their new pack. ”Well, can we go now, or what?” He spoke with a fake tone of exasperation, or irritation, though his eyes belied his voice. They found hers, the gentle gold of her orbs mesmerizing.
