The rain was over but the smell still lingered. Fat water droplets clung to the tall, slender stalks of wild wheat grasses, and they glittered in the lowlight like precious jewels. Beautiful crimson poppies grew here and there throughout the field of golden-green grasses, like a bold statement against conformity. Their bright red heads swayed softly in the breeze, as if dancing, and their velvet edges were gilded by the orange light of sunset. Overhead, the dark blue sky was painted by the remains of the summer storm in dramatic fashion: deep orange and yellow clouds slashed into sullen purple shadows, making a long, tapering streak across the blue heavens like a glowing river that disappeared over the horizon. Regent studied that long storm cloud for a moment, with his head cushioned by the soft grasses and the damp earth making his back wet, and he thought that it was the most fantastic storm cloud he'd ever seen. All at once, it looked beautiful, bold, and dangerous, and it's domain stretched from one horizon to the other.
Regent inhaled deeply and then sighed. The air was cool and crisp, and it smelled heavily of the cloying earth and green life. He loved the moments after the rain, when everything was still and peaceful. Soft birdsong occasionally enlivened the atmosphere, but for the most part the world seemed quieted and subdued. It was like a relieved breath, that for one moment all the tension of the world was undone.
The black wolf pup allowed his gaze to wander from the vivid colors of the storm cloud to its almost colorless edges, where meaningless shapes seemed to cut into the blue sky. For a moment, he simply watched those shapes transform into other things that he didn't have the imagination to pursue. It was almost hypnotizing, just to watch that storm cloud move slowly, but after a while Regent grew stiff and finally rolled upright. When he did, the tops of his ears barely came above the tall wild grasses, but the wolf cub hardly minded. He stretched himself, his slender body lengthening and contracting until he felt limber and relaxed again. His back was still wet from laying on the grass, but he didn't mind. He shook himself and then glanced from left to right. Since he couldn't really see where he was going, however, direction hardly mattered, so Regent silently pushed off into the tall grasses, weaving through them with the ease of a serpent. He was content, pleased with the world, and let his mind wander. But in doing so, he lost track of his surroundings and where he was going. All of a sudden, he stumbled over something - or someone - and fell to the ground with a loud "Oof!"

The salty scent of rain still clung to the air, intoxicating the atmosphere. Even the storm clouds still covered the pale blue sky, engulfing both the sky and Fenris. Of course Fenris wouldn't settle for any of that. For instead of letting the clouds rule, he blasted them with his power. The sun's fiery rays scorched it's holder and incinerated the dark shroud into nothing. As soon as the cloud disappeared, bright rays of sunlight filtered down to the land below. The light making the long unkept grass sparkle and gleam as small watery crystals clung from their bodies. The Lera that had sheltered in their dens or in the cover of the woods now ventured out of their hiding places. Giant Herla peered between towering pines and conifers. Flicking their ears as their eyes darted back and forth for any Putnar that was on the loose. Their large eyes soon settled on one small body of a Putnar, that lay crouching in the cover of the tall grassy meadow. Tall blades of grass swayed in the summer breeze, carrying nothing but mixed scents. Previous ones had been erased by the mid summer rain and the ones that had managed to survive were muddled. The soft thumping of paws were barely heard through the swishing of the grass as a pair of brown eyes watched in the grass. The rabbit's brown pelt matched with the landscape's and made it almost invisible. It's brown oculars flickered from side to side, knowing that even with it's pelt and good sense of hearing it could still become a Putnar's next meal.
Pink orbs watched from afar at the small brown humped figure. The rabbit nonchalantly munching away on the stalk of grass it had in it's mouth. Rose's paws tingled with anticipation at the feel of grasping the hare's soft fur and her teeth sinking into it's neck. Her maw drooled just a bit at the thought of the sweet metallic taste of blood rolling on her tongue as fresh meat filled her half empty stomach. Her deep mahogany red fur stood out in the grass, clashing colors with the small tinges of pinkish fur that lined her tail and paws. Her paws clenched and unclenched, making the black knives dig themselves into the soft ground. Her pink tipped ears flickered to a rustling sound to her right. Her head barely turned in time when a black pup walked toward her. He better leave me al- Rose didn't get to finish that thought for the blundering black Varg tripped over her. Rose's eyes clenched shut before opening again, this time filled with anger. Her eyes flickered back at her rabbit that she was stalking, but saw nothing but a rabbit leg disappear.
Rose's blood boiled as she quickly got to her feet, making the intruder's hind legs drop to the floor. "WATCH WHERE YOUR GOING YOU IDIOT!!!!" She growled, her tail raised high and her lips turned into a snarl. Her milky white teeth exposed to the world. "Because of you, my rabbit got away!!!" She snarled this time putting her front paws on the other pup's chest and coming nose to nose with Regent. "Beat it!!" She hissed and got off the pup before vanishing into the grass to look for her rabbit.
Stupid guy! She thought bitterly in her head. Why are all males like that!?!? They think they can waltz in and do whatever they like! Rose thought, putting her black nose to the ground and tried her hardest to track the fleeing rabbit. But all that was left was it's scent mingling with the rain's.

Regent did not fully realize what had happened until he hit the ground. Even then he had a difficult time connecting all the dots. He knew, however, that he was probably in big trouble, and that his two best options at the moment were to scramble for safety or else apologize profusely and hope he wasn't eaten. It depended on what type of wolf he was dealing with: huge and scary, or small and kindly. He prayed for the latter, because he didn't think that he would be fast enough to escape the jaws of some lunatic. So, unable to resist, he glanced back to his rear legs, and to the deep red wolf underneath them. She looked like a small wolf, but the 'kind' element was lacking. Instead, she looked really peeved; he didn't blame her. Especially since she had to force him off of her the rest of the way by standing up and letting him slide off. His back legs hit the ground, and instantly Regent rolled onto his back and watched the rusty colored she-wolf. Since her attention was momentarily focused on an empty patch of grass, he had a few seconds in which to properly study her: dark red fur with strange pinkish ear-tips, paws, and tail. He couldn't see the strange pink rose on her shoulder. He cut his analysis short, however, with the decision to start squirming backward in an attempt to reach some cover before she turned around to beat him into a bloody pulp. She seemed like the type.
Too late.
She twisted her head around and glared at him. Regent's yellowish-gray eyes widened considerably until he felt like they were about to pop right out of his skull, and he gave her an equally wide, apologetic smile. She snarled at him, and he swore that every fiber of her being was intent on killing him - she drew herself up and exposed her milky white teeth. He debated whether he should compliment her on what big teeth she had, but figured that the intention of his compliment would probably go unnoticed and she'd decide to eat him instead. So he remained mute, and his smile instantly vanished. He tucked his ears back along his head and his tail curled up between his hind legs. He hoped to look vulnerable so he could maybe earn some of the other pup's pity. He doubted the ploy would work, but it was worth a shot. And if it came to a fight, he knew he could hold his own - just long enough to run away, however. Regent, although judging himself an accomplished play-fighter, knew the value of running away when nothing could be gained from a fight.
She stepped on his chest. He felt the pressure on his lungs, but didn't try to wiggle away. He let his emotions dissolve, he ignored his fear, and he tried to hold her angry glare with cool confidence. He didn't reply - didn't say anything that might provoke her - and soon enough she stepped away from him and bounded into the grass. He rolled onto his belly, and looked after where she had disappeared. The grass still waved gently, as if beckoning him to follow, but he doubted it would be a very wise thing to do. Still, he felt like he owed her something now - she had said he scared away her rabbit, didn't she?He frowned, and let her wander even further away from him before he finally came to a decision. He could at least offer to help her, and if she rejected it then he would be free to leave her alone. Regent sighed and rolled his eyes. Hesitantly, he got to his paws and started to trot after her scent, keeping his head low and ignoring the bitter tinge of fear in his chest. In a moment, that fear had passed, and he was left feeling a little empty and unsure.
He spotted her colorful rump after several moments, and he instantly noted that she was busy trying to find the scent of the rabbit in the wet grass. His frown deepened, and he stopped a little ways away. He cleared his throat, to make sure she knew he was there. "Hey, look. I'm sorry for scaring your rabbit," he said, his emotions hard to track. "But if you'd like, I'll help you try to catch it again. Or at least find where it went to." He spoke without fear and without arrogance. His voice was smooth and confident, and he drew his slender body into a strong, solid pose that nevertheless looked like it would melt into the wind if it should be her wish that he leave her alone.
