The sky was bright with Fenris’ rays and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, a warm breeze blew slightly ruffling the pelt the small varg that padded slowly through the blooming meadow. It was a beautiful time of year, the lera were all coming out of hiding and young ones had begun to emerge from the warmth of their mother’s womb. On this day a varg by the name of Stoli have arrived in Transylvania in the meadow. She had been roaming for some time, lost and not knowing which way to go. A yawn escaped her maw, all the traveling had made her tired and she decided to lie down in the tall grass and soak up the warm rays. Stoli was a small red wolf, the reds and browns and a tinge of black intertwined through her pelt, she had long legs and a sleek body. Her ears were larger than the normal gray wolves she had seen around, but she knew that was because of her lineage. Her long tail rose and fell gently behind her, today she didn’t have a care in the world, today she was free, today she was happy.
Stoli had a rough start to her young life, she was only 2 summers old, yet she had been taken from her family, shipped across the vast ocean only to be mistreated by humans. She finally escaped their clutches and began drifting through Transylvania. A sigh escaped her chest, happiness filled her very soul, she was finally free. Rolling over on her back, and her amber eyes scanned the endless blue sky and she smiled taking a deep breath, “Freedom, there is nothing like it and I will never take it for granted again...”
Rolling back on her cream stomach she stretched her long legs out and lifted her muzzle to the sky, her nares twitched back and forth as she inhaled taking in all the scents around her. Everything was so new to her and that excited her. Some of the smells she had never before smelt, much of it smelled of different packs that seemed to gather near the meadow. She closed her eyes and began to think what it would be like to be in a pack, and what it would be like to once again have someone to talk to, someone to call a friend. Even though she had only been in Transylvania for a very short time, she had gotten somewhat attached to this place. It was so beautiful, and soon it would be even more so, when all the flowers and trees were in full bloom. “Who knows, maybe I’ll find a friend or two to talk to, or maybe even somewhere to call home….”

The cloudless sky made the young mann feel alive and free, and the warmth of Fenris' rays made him feel at peace with the world. The black pelted Dragga was only a young cub, his pack tragically murdered by the evil Balkar, whom the other Vargs (as far as he knew) hated and dispised.
Freki's silvery streaks glistened and his cunning, golden eagle-like eyes scanned the meadow with interest, his ears alert for any sound. He trotted purposely through the tall grass, scenting the air, so full of the unmistakable scent of Varg. He growled warily, as he scented a Drappa nearby.
Instantly, a change came over the youngster, for he had always been a show off to the faemmes, and he boldly raised his head and raised his tail proudly, seemingly unafraid to show who was dominent. He scented around, and followed her scent until he saw a red Varg, with her long legs stretched out in front of her. Freki's maw stretched out in a grin as he padded up to her and growled in a deeper voice than his own, "Aye, what is a young fae like yourself wandering around alone in a meadow like this?" He tried to sound casual, although it was hard. His banner lowered slightly, and his floppy tongue came out and lolled around his maw. He grinned again, wondering what her reply would be.

Her amber eyes scanned the meadow watching as the butterflies and bees fluttered from flower to flower, spring had definitely arrived even though the highest mountain peaks were still covered with ice and snow. Looking towards the mountains, she wondered what kind a vargs wished to live in the snow and ice this time of year, when down below life was renewed and in full swing. Shrugging her thoughts off her gaze returned to the blooming meadow, the tall grasses swayed back and forth in the warm breeze bringing a content smile across her maw, she was finally happy.
Stoli’s large auds perked, something was amiss; looking over her shoulder the tall grasses parted. She lifted her muzzle to sky in the direction of the broken grass, her reddish tinted nose twitched back and forth and she inhaled bringing in all the new scents around her, fresh in the breeze was the scent of a cub, a mann much younger than herself. Turning towards that direction she tilted her head to the side back and forth, her eyes intently focusing on the ebon cub as he entered the clearing where she stood. The cub took a dominant stance over the fae, which Stoli would have no part of, she was older than him and if anyone was dominant it would be her. She thought about just walking away, letting the ebon cub wonder what he had done wrong; his sly comment only added to her frustration. She just shook her head back and forth, then her tail rose high twitching slightly back and forth, her auds were high on her skull and her chest stuck out slightly as she approached the youth. “Young?” coming only inches from his muzzle, “Who exactly are you calling young? I have lived much longer than you cub, and seen more and been through more hardships than you may ever see in your entire life.”
It was her first day of freedom; she wanted to enjoy it and not have to worry about putting some cocky cub in his place. “Look, I’m not looking for a fight, so if that is what you are looking for be on your way cub for I would like to enjoy this beautiful day.” She lowered her tail and turned her back on the cub; she came upon a small hill and rested on her haunches so that she could look over the entire meadow. Her tail casually swayed back and forth and she took a deep breath, she would not let the first varg she met in Transylvania ruin the possibility of this becoming her home, if he wanted to change his attitude and be pleasant she could definitely use a friendly face to talk to, if not she would simply trot away and not waste her time…

Freki's grin instantly vanished, and he realised what he had said. You stupid mann, Freki. he cursed to himself bitterly, as the fae turned away from him, and trotted over to a small hill. His maw lifted slightly in the warm air and he scented the faemme's scent, as he studied a bee coming closer to him.
The young, dark mann's attention turned away from the redish brown fae, and his sharp, eagle-like eyes bored down at the bee, staring at it with such intensity that it seemed like his life depended on it. He raised a muddied paw, the dirt dry and cracking, and trotted purposely towards the yellow and black object of interest, and was about to touch it, curious to know what would happen, when it flew right towards his skull, and before he even registered what was going on, it had stung him on the top of his shadowy coloured head. He howled in pain, brushing away the dead bee, and rolled around like a maniac in the tall grass, crushing helpless flowers as he went. His eyes were clamped tightly shut, and his front paws were brushing at his head, trying to make the pain go away.
Freki snarled as he rolled onto a small rock embedded into the warm ground. It helped him forget about the bee sting for a fraction of a second, and in that time he managed to stand on shaky legs and pad towards the faemme.
Without looking at her face in embarrasment, he said, "Forgive me for calling you a young fae. I was trying to be...be more mature than I actually am. My pride got the better of me. Will you forgive me?" He whined pathetically as the bee sting twinged in pain, and again he somehow found himself rolling around the grass like a lunatic.

The blooming flowers swayed back and forth in the breeze, the rusty fae’s amber orbs followed their back and forth motion hypnotizing her. Images of her puphood flooded her mind, her small frail body with even larger auds, so big that one just flopped over. She never thought that ear would ever stand up like it as supposed to. Then images of playing with her brothers and sisters and best friends, and finally images of her loving mother and father, oh how she missed them. A small tear formed in the corner of her left eye. Next flashed the horrible night when she was ripped from their pack den, ripped away from her parents. Stoli closed her glistening eyes, forcing those images from her mind. Opening her eyes once more, looking around the bright and sunny meadow, this was her home now, there was no way for her to return home so she most make the most of what she had.
The fae had gotten lost in her memories and forgotten that an ebon cub had found her hidden within the tall grass until she heard a painful howl from behind her that startled her briefly. She immediately rose to her delicate paws and turned around to see the cub rolling around in the tall grass and flowers. A small whine emitted from her maw and a worried look immediately spread through her amber eyes. There on the ground near the spastic cub, lay a black and yellow bee. “Pour thing” she thought to herself, she remembered what it was like to find the pain that was associated with the sting of a bee. Soon though, the ebon cub was on his feet again, though obviously still in pain as he trotted towards her. This time his words were much friendlier and less arrogant. “Yes, of course I will forgive you. Don’t you worry about it, I remember what is was like to be a cub, I just had to grow up too fast.” She smiled at the cub, “My name is Stoli and I am new to this area. May I be obliged to know your name young mann?”
Low whines began to come from the young cub once more and before Stoli knew it, he was rolling around again in pain. “Calm down little one, rubbing it and scratching will only make the pain worse.” She padded over to him standing close enough so that he would stop making things worse for himself. “Follow me.” Stoli trotted over to a shallow hole in the ground that had recently filled with cold water from an early spring rain. The whole in the ground was just deep enough to keep the water cool. She placed her paw gently in the water and got it good and wet. Lifting her soaked paw slowly over the cubs head a few drops of cold water splashed down on his forehead where the bee had stung him, “There, now doesn’t that feel better….”

Freki gasped as cool water trickled delicately from Stoli's paw. He swallowed, finding his voice, and said in thanks, "Thank you, Stoli. I'm better now." he added quickly, " My name is Freki."
His shadowy pelt glistened in Fenris' light, as he lay tiredly onto the damp ground near the shallow hole, and lapped at the refreshing water, wetting his dry throat. His pink tongue licked his black maw after his drink, and he gazed admirably at the older Drappa.
Freki nibbled absently at a stalk of grass, wondering if he should say anything. His piercing golden eyes studied the meadow curiously, and his maw was raised slightly in the breeze, scenting the faint smell of newly opened flowers.
Suddenly, a question bobbed to his mind, and he turned to face the fae. " Where abouts do you originally come from, for I have never seen a Varg like you before in Transylvania, although I haven't seen many Vargs..." he trailed off, his attention focusing on a bee, his whole body stock still, only his eagle-like eyes moving.
He snapped his eyes away from the bee, and raised his banner and grinned. He glanced at the faemme, awaiting her responce.

Looking down at the ebon cub Stoli couldn’t help but chuckle, her amber orbs looked deep into Freki’s orbs, they were warm and loving and she smiled at him. Looking away from him, she began to look back over the meadow, in the distance she could hear what sounded like a river and waterfall; she made note to be sure to check that out, a cool refreshing drink and bath could really be what she needed. As the warm breeze blew it also brought with it scents of other vargs nearby along with other lera and their young. Her pelt slightly shifted from the breeze and her tail lazily flopped back and forth in contentment.
The ebon cub’s tiny voice once again caused her to perk her auds and listen to his words. As she heard his questions, vivid images of home flashed through her mind causing a big smile to be placed upon her maw. Being the Freki was so young; she would spare him the nasty details of her hard life. “I came from a place far away from here, one that you would have to cross the vast ocean to get to, one that it’s beauty would take your breath away, a place where there was nothing to fear but fear itself. “ A deep, saddened sigh escaped her chest, and she opened her eyes once more. “I do miss it, but this is my home now, so I must make the most of it.”
She looked down at the cub, “Well now that you know where I came from, may I ask where it is that you come from? Why is someone as young as you, all alone in the meadow getting into trouble?” She winked at Freki, she was really just giving him a hard time. He was actually fun to talk to and it was nice having someone to actually talk to besides herself, she hoped that she would also find others to talk to, but she was content for now just talking to the ebon cub.

As the fae spoke of a land that lay beyong a vast expanse of ocean, Freki gazed dreamily into space, imagining the beauty and strangeness of being in another land, full of exotic smells and sights. He immediatly felt an understanding towards the older fae, for she was far away from her home. He tried to say something, but he couldn't think of anything, so he waited patiently.
As Stoli said of why he was alone, his insides froze, horror of that night filling into his memories, sucking the happiness out of him. But when the reddish Drappa winked at him, he couldn't suppress a wide grin spreading on his ebon maw.
His banner lowered slightly, and he sat next to Stoli, and faced her. He cleared his throat, and said quietly, "I used to be in a pack, the alpha male my father, with my two siblings, Snowflame and Farkas. Tragically, the Balkar came one night, and slaughtered my family." he couldn't stop, and so he continued on, "Only myself and Snowflame escaped to the mountains of Tranyslvania, and there we were seperated when-" he broke off, sorrow filling his heart, and he howled silently to himself, cursing Tor and Fenris in his mind. He glanced up at Stoli, and then rested his paws on his head, sadness ebbing away at his heart.

Though Stoli was joking with the ebon cub, she truly did worry about him being out all alone and wondered where his mom and dad were. She didn't know how any young pup could survive in the world alone. Even though she was taken from her family at a fairly young age, she had at least scraps of food thrown at her and she was safe from bigger predators of the wild like bears or other varg, she just wasn't safe from humans. Bringing her attention back to Freki, she looked at him softly and listened to his short tale.
"Balkar? Who are the Balkar, and why would they slaughter your family? And Snowflame, where is she?" Realizing that this might be a hard thing to discuss she immediately changed the subject, " She must be around here somewhere, I'm sure you'll find her eventually." Stoli smiled at the ebon pup and decided that it might be a good time to change the subject.
With Freki's mention of the Balkar, she assumed they were a pack, she wondered what else she might need to know and what she might want to stay away from. "So Freki, since you know more about this place than I do, what can you tell me? What dangers lurk in the shadows?"

ooc: I like your banner! Freki gazed into Stoli's kind face, and he growled warily as she asked him what dangers lurk in the shadows. " The Balkar are an evil and hated pack throughout Tranyslvania, and they are only made up of the strongest Draggas. They are also known as the Night Hunters, for their eyes are better than most Varg. This is the only pack that I know of so far in Transylvania. " He gazed around, hatred for the Balkar growing deeper. He wanted to help his friend be aware of the dangers of this land, but even he did not know them all. Freki's golden eyes looked straight at Stoli as he growled, " I have heard of some good packs, ones that hate the Balkar. They are Koran, Deor and Ge-Rad. If you wish to join a pack, I would advise joining them. They are faithful and not evil, though I doubt I will join any." He stared gloomily at the horizon, thinking.

//Thanks!//
Stoli had always heard of evil vargs, but to think there was a whole pack of evil vargs was more than she could comprehend. She wondered why the gods would create such creatures, but realized that it was really none of her business. "Well, I will do my best to steer clear of them always, thank you for the warning or I may have gotten myself in some serious trouble." She smiled contently at Freki, she was glad that she had run into him on the beautiful day.
The rusty colored fae got the sense that the ebon cub held a lot of hatred in his heart for the Balkar, which he had good reason, but hate was so strong that it could consume one and do the exact opposite that they hoped it would. "You know Freki, I know that the Balkar have done horrible things, murdering your family was very harmful to you. But just remember that hate is a strong word and even stronger emotion. You must realize that the hate you feel could consume your mind and make you the very thing that you hate. All I am saying is be careful."
A pack, what a wonderful thought, Stoli would have loved to still be in her pack back home. Still be with her family and ones that loved her instead of out in a unfamiliar cold world where she knew no one and was loved by no one. "Yes Freki I think eventually I might join a pack, but for right now being a kerl suits me just fine. " The ebon pup's expression immediately changed, "Now why wouldn't a strong pup like yourself ever want to join a pack and have a family? Surely you don't want to wander all alone your entire life..."

Freki knew Stoli was right; that he held too much hatred in his heart. But the thought of that day still haunted his dreams, and he felt guilty for getting lost and leaving Snowflame alone. He looked at the ground in shame.
He glanced up as Stoli asked why he wouldn't join a pack. His pelt glistened slightly, as he raised his ebon maw to her and growled quietly, "I am afraid. I am afriad that what happened to my family, my pack, will happen to any pack I join. I could not bear that to happen. Is it wrong to be afraid like that?" He felt nervous, and he tentatively scented around him. He trembled, even though it was warm.

//Sorry for the extremely late response//
The rusty fae nodded as she listened to all that Freki had to say. She understood everything he was saying, pups and even adult vargs were easy to blame themselves for all the wrong that happened in their lives, but especially young pups. As the ebon pup trembled she brought her self closer to him, making sure that their fur intertwined so he knew she was there and she licked his forehead for extra comfort in hopes that he wold stop trembling.
"Freki, I know it may not seem like it now, but what happened to your pack and your loved ones wasn't your fault. No one knows why these things happen, but the gods have a reason for it. You just have to know that it wasn't your fault and one day you will see them again in the red meadow, though I hope that it is no time soon. So don't let your fears stop you from finding a new family, for love conquers all."
As soon as she finished, she looked to the sky and noticed how late it had gotten and suddenly a fierce gust of wind ruffled her pelt. It had been an awfully warm day for a spring day and with that warm day, thunderstorms were sure to follow.
"Little cub, I believe we should be on our way. The skies are darkening and the winds are beginning to howl, my guess would be we don't have much time before a storm blows in..."

(don't worry about it ) Freki felt a wave of relief and hope spread through him at Stoli's wise and comforting words. He licked her back on her forehead, and wagged his tail. His ebon pelt glimmered in the darkening light. He raised his maw to look at the sky, and growled after the reddish faemme had spoken, " We should look for a place to rest the night, for I do not want to be in the midst of a storm, " he tried to sound braver than he felt, and he shuffled his paws slightly, as if he were embarrased. The ebon mann tentatively spoke, " Without you Stoli, I wouldn't of realised that I have no need to be angry at the world. Death is a part of our life, and so is love, and birth, and hope, and passion, and..." he trailed off, his heart pounding furiously. He gazed at the reddish fae and winked sheepishly. Then he raised his proud maw into the air and howled.

Gusts of winds violently ruffled the downy red, brown and black pelt of the fae. Lifting her muzzle to the sky, her ebon and reddish nose twitched back and forth; bringing her face level again she opened her amber eyes which seemed to glow in the stormy skies and looked at the ebon pup near her.
“Freki, we must find shelter, there in the woods there is shelter. Follow me, and you’ll stay safe.”
She knew that a bad storm was brewing, and to be caught out in it, especially on top of a hill, would only lead to bad things. Rising to her paws, she shook her pelt, causing the dirt and debris to fall from her to the ground. Quickly she placed one paw delicately in front of one another and began to run towards the forest. She could only hope that Freki would follow her so that he would remain safe and out of harm’s way.
//Thanks for the thread Freki, but this will be my last post. See you around!//
