(amandus first. then its open to anyone) Soft, gentle breezes carried the scent of a thousand pine needles to him, and the crisp aroma of a brook that ran through the meadow. The sun shined brightly on his back, making him seem like a living fire against the green trees. The amber-clad youth glanced up once at the sun, and judged by its position in the bottomless sapphire sky that it was not yet midday. A smirk crossed his muzzle as he looked back down at his surroundings: he was at the border of Ge-Rad and the meadow, and he was pleased for having traveled so quickly since sunup that he'd made it here from the den-site before noon. 'This proves I'm a swift son of Ge-Rad, just like Father!' Midian thought proudly. His father, Kaemon, was a Ge-Radian scout, and the boy liked to think of him as one of the very best in all the land. He trotted along the edge of the trees with his tail proudly in the air.
Before long, the young Ge-Radian dragga had discovered a cool green patch of clovers nestled beneath an ancient oak tree, and since the day was beginning to grow warmer, he decided that it would be a wonderful place to stretch out and take a nap. He was not that far from the safety of his homeland, so he hardly feared that some enemy would discover him. 'Then, once the heat of the day is gone, I can do a bit of hunting on my way home.' He grinned and wagged his tail, convinced that it was a good plan. 'I'll find the fattest hare for Mother or Grandmother to eat, and they'll be so impressed by my hunting that they'll say I was a gift from Fenris.' He nearly felt embarrassed by that conceded thought, and eagerly brushed it away as he stretched out on his belly in the soft bed of clovers. He wouldn't let it ruin his otherwise perfect day, however, so a contented smile still lingered on his strong face as he rested his head on the springy plants and closed his eyes.

Amandus grinned his quirky little grin as he skipped about through the meadow. This had to be his favorite place to be so wide and open,so many scents filling the air.On top of all this the lera seemed to like it out here too which gave him many playmates. The rather cub like adolescent suddenly froze having heard a voice. It sounded rather young around his age give or take a few months.
He remained tense for a moment more before he took off toward the voice and subconsciously the scent.Soon he caught sight of another varg, they stood out against the green of the grass having a pelt of an amber color.
Without any thought he began bouncing around"A varg!"He yelped excitedly
"A varg another varg!"He chanted a few times before calming himself enough to stop bouncing.
After taking a few moments to catch his breath after his episode the brown varg spoke. "Hello!" he simply said not asking the other's name nor bothering to introduce himself,he'd never been taught to do such things.

(ooh, I think Midian will try his paw at storytelling here shortly :D) Just as the youth was beginning to drift on into dreamland, a shrill voice broke the subdued and peaceful silence of the meadow and ruined his hope for a long nap. Instead, the Ge-Radian jumped up with a start, and glanced wildly about until he saw the source of such a commotion: a young brown dragga with cybernetic markings and a splash of brilliant azure on his back. 'Oh Fenris! What is that thing! I must be dreaming, I'm sure of it!' Midian thought, the bewilderment clearly evident in his flinty eyes. He stared for a long time, and the stranger's friendly greeting passed relatively unheard until Midian managed to accept the creature before him. 'All right. I'm dreaming, but I may as well make it a good one.' He thought, and a smile grew on his face.
"Hello yourself, little Fish," he replied, dipping his head politely. Like Amandus, he didn't bother to introduce himself. He fancied that, it being a dream, everyone would know his name. He also assumed that everyone would accept any name he gave them, and considering that the stranger's markings and blue-back made him look like a shimmering fish out of water, Midian had given him a suitable one.
The youth sat down on his bed of cool clovers, and looked inquisitively at the newly-named Fish. "I've never seen you here before," he said quietly, referring to his dreamworld. "Where did you come from? Are you lost, maybe? Or did Fenris send you here to, well, I don't know, give me a heroic quest or something?"

Amandus was greatly amused by the other's bewildered expression..It wasn't the first time he had recieved such a look and it wouldn't be the last.He didn't mind this though seeing as he believed his mother's words, that other's stared and gaped because they were in such awe of his unique coat.In fact his body langauge began to show pride as he lifted his head high and stuck out his chest. All this pride however was shattered upon hearing his new "name".His ears flattened and tail drooped, his head hung low.Why if he had been human he proabaly would have been on the verge of tears.
Fish.
At first he didn't think the firey pup had been speaking to him but the harsh realazation that they weren't by a stream hit him.
"Fish?"he whimpered pitifully paying very little attention to the other's questions.
Only catching tidbits here and there through his emotional pain.
"Well Butterfly"He rebuttaled feeling proud of his insult, after all the pup's bright coloration reminded him of the butterflies that appeared in spring.
"I stay with mother and pack most the time.I come from Koran?"He questioned...One of the questions was about where he'd come from right?
He tilted his head trying to think of what the second question had been...There had been two right?Well he hoped so and if not well he'd just look like a fool.
Inhaling deeply he shook his head vigorously. "I don't know about a quest...Should I?"He responed all his pride having been crushed.

A soft breeze rushed through the warm meadow, ruffling Midian's golden fur. His coat now looked flyaway, and he seemed even more carefree, but the expression on his face was anything but. Even though this was a dream, this particular character didn't seem to know who he was, which puzzled the young wolf. 'How can Fish not know my name if he lives inside my head?' Midian wondered. 'Oh, I think I get it! Maybe "Butterfly" is the way he would understand my name, seeing as he is a little slow. And maybe this dreamworld is a different one than the one I usually visit.' With his problem solved, the young Ge-Radian smiled graciously and looked at the other pup.
"Koran, you say? I know of them. I think I've heard a rumor that something terrible has happened to their pack... is it true?" He wondered if the apparition in his dream would know, or even have knowledge of the story. 'If he's a dream, he'll probably only know as much as I do, and that's not a lot.' Midian frowned. He'd been excited to hear all about what was going on, but it didn't seem that Fish would know anything useful. 'Koran is probably getting ready for a daring and epic quest - maybe a battle even! A glorious, honorable battle like in all the old stories, and I'll miss it.'
He shook his head sadly, but was brought from his reverie by Fish's next remark. He gave the young brown and blue dragga a disappointed frown. "No, I suppose not. I'm sure you would remember if Fenris told you to tell me something... Well, since you're not here to give me a quest, and since you're not lost, I suppose the only thing left to do is swap stories or go hunting." Midian's gaze was immediately drawn to the bright blue fur on Fish's back, and he quickly realized that the only Lera they would catch would need to be blind, deaf, and dumb, and so he hastily corrected himself. "Um, on second thought, why don't I tell you a story. Then, if you think of a good one after me, you can share it. How does that sound to you?"

The pup's already down expression just became more solemn. "Yes something happened."He nodded"Our leader,uh dragga, was killed. There's a war cause of it y'know."He nodded firmly.
His expression turned into a broad grin as he spoke his next words proudly. "My dad's in it y'know,he's fighting for Koran!"He boasted as he began to pace unable to keep his body still.
However though he didn't know it his words had been a lie.No one had told the pup that his father had died...Simply because ignorance is bliss...right?
Once again attentive Amandus ,or Fish as he'd been dubbed, tilted his head completely oblivious at the potentially insulting words that had just been spoken.
"Sounds good to me,I have lotssa stories to tell.Momma tol' 'em to me and my dad tol' 'em to her."the azure-brown pup nodded.
He was obviously feeling the same sort of pride Midian,or Butterfly, had been feeling beforehand. The same pride a son tends to feel toward his father even despite the fact he'd never met his. (Sorry it's crummy..and prolly doesn't make much sense.)

(I don't remember where the original story comes from, but this is my version of it) Midian's eyes lit up, and even though Fish's expression was now very still and serious, the amber-furred "Butterfly" felt his heart stir wildly. 'A war? I knew it!' He felt an immediate impulse to charge home and tell Ge-Rad all about the horrible news, 'Koran's Dragga was dead - murdered! And now Koran was going to war! but he knew that this was only a dream, and settled himself down. He felt a little disappointed having remembered that this was not reality, but was still excited that his dreams could take such an exciting turn. He smiled warmly at Fish, grateful that the gangly youngster could read his thoughts and desires so well. 'Perhaps this dream will go on for so long that I can fight the evil beasts who slew Koran's Dragga too! Maybe this was the quest that Fenris was giving to me after all, and He cleverly disguised it from Fish.' Midian nodded brightly.
"Perhaps my Father and I will join him," Midian replied quickly, also lifting himself quite high. "Though, to tell you the truth, I've never been in a war before. Not even in any other dreams," he said quietly, suddenly looking rather sheepish. But he shrugged, and remembered that he was going to tell Fish a story.
"Oh yes, the story. Hm... well, I'm not sure where I've heard this one before, but I think you'll like it. It's about a curious little fish." Midian's eyes twinkled as his mind raced through the story, recalling details and putting the scenes in order. He thought the material was rather appropriate, considering his new friend's name and appearance, and was happy that he was finally going to tell it himself. He loved to tell stories, and hoped to one day be a storyteller as well as a fierce and reputable warrior.
"Deep in a wild, tangled wood there was a stand of ancient trees. These ancient trees surrounded a large and beautiful pool, and they sheltered it from the rain and from all the creatures great and small that would try to drink from it. Fresh water came to the pool from a very shallow stream, and out again through an even more shallow stream at the other end. The pool was home to a lot of very fat and greedy fishes, and to one tiny golden fish.
"The big fat fishes ate up all the worms and flies, and had long since claimed the nicest corners of the pool where they idled away their time snapping at bugs and enjoying the shade of the lily pads. This meant that there was very little for the golden fish to eat, and it left no where for him to hide from the hot sun that beat down on his scales all day long. Since he couldn't spend his time being lazy like all the other fishes, he did a lot of thinking to keep himself from being sad. One of his very favorite things to do to keep him happy was to go exploring, and he investigated every nook and cranny in that beautiful pool until he knew the names of all the weeds and rushes, exactly how many stones were at the bottom, and which lily was going to open next.
"But that couldn't stop him from feeling lonely, and every day, as the fat fishes grew greedier and fatter, the little golden fish grew even more sad and lonely, and he wasted away until he was barely as big as the smallest pebble in the pool. Until, one day when he was swimming past the stream that flowed away from the pool, he realized that he was thin enough to squeeze between the bottom of the stream and its surface. It was quite a struggle to fit between some of the pebbles in his way, and he was very scared when the water became so shallow that his fins touched the surface, but at last the stream met up with a creek, and the little golden fish was free.
"He swam down the creek for a long time, but after a day and night, he finally reached a great river. While he was there, he discovered lots of things that were very beautiful and very frightening, and many other things that were quite beyond his understanding. Once he saw a fish so big that it could have drunk the entire pool for breakfast and still remained thirsty. Another time, he saw a giant brown bear with its claws in the water, trying to catch some of those big fishes in its flashing teeth. But his greatest discovery was a beautiful granite den in the clear, green depths of the river; and lovely little fishes with shimmering blue and silver spots who shared their most fat and delicious worms with him. He enjoyed it all so much that he might have stayed there forever, but he wanted to return to his own home and tell the big fat fishes all about the exciting and wonderful things they were missing. He was a very kind little fish, and wanted them to experience the river too."
Midian paused, and collected himself quietly. He looked at Fish, wondering if he was liking the story so far, and giving him a time to ask questions before the story was finished.

The cybernetic marked wolf remained silent for a good few moments after he was trying to process all that he'd just been told.
So there was a bunch of little fishies in a pond and the littlest fishie couldn't get food cause the other fishies were greedy. This little fishy shrunk because he couldn't eat and managed to leave his home..cause he was little. He found a place with lotsa pretty fishies with lotsa food so the gold fishy went and swam back home to tell the greedy fishies...Which Amandus concluded proabaly wasn't a good idea...cause the greedy fish would eat all the pretty fishies' food too...
Then they'd all end up shinking too and that wouldn't be a good thing...would it?
Having figured everything out Amandus spoke again."I like the gold fishie he's nice even though the greedy fishie never gave him food he still wants them to see the place with the pretty fishies and food."
He nodded feeling proud of his input though Midian already knew this.
In Amandus' mind this was all playing out like a movie and slowly turning into his own story. The valiant gold fish couldn't get back up to his orginal home so he went to live with the pretty fishies. The prettiest of the fishies was a princess and she was looking for a noble warrior to wed.In order to prove himself the gold fishy had to go fight in a battle against the turtles who wanted to steal Princess Fishy's treasure. The noble little Gold Fishy agreed and left with Princess Fishy's army.In this fishy miltia was a blue and silver fishy bearing strange neon blue markings! This fishy wasn't fighting for the princess' love but rather to protect his wife and baby.He was scared that if the turtles got daring enough they'd attack the fishy village and surely his family would perish from such an attack!
Amandus was just about to imgine the epic battle in which the blue fishy would fight ever so fearlessly against the turtles, when he realized that he had zoned out on Midian. The firey pup was proabaly awaiting more praise for his story. That or maybe he hadn't realized Amandus had wandered into his own world and was no longer listening.
Amandus simply sat there waiting to see what Midian did next before he'd find himself back in his own story.

Midian nodded. He quite liked the golden fish, too, and was glad that Fish seemed to be enjoying the story. He waited for the blue and brown dragga's attention to fall back on him before he continued on with the rest of it:
"So, the little golden fish left the river and swam back up the creek. Along the way, he had many, many more adventures, both wonderful and frightening, but there simply isn't enough time to tell them now. What matters is, after nearly a full moon, the tiny golden fish finally found the stream again. This time, however, he was so thin from all of his adventures that he managed to swim upstream without any trouble whatsoever, and his fins never touched the surface.
"The tiny golden fish thought that everyone would be very surprised to see him again after his long and unexplained absence, but he was a little sad to learn that none of the fat fishes even noticed that he'd been away. Still, he thought to himself: 'With a little time and patience, those fat greedy fishes will learn not to be so selfish.' Besides, he was eager to show them the beautiful and mysterious world that he found, so he swam right up to the nose of the fattest and greediest fish in the entire pool, and said to him: "Stop snapping at the flies and blowing bubbles, and listen to me! I have come to tell you about all the amazing things that have happened to me just down the stream; and I shall help you to grow thin and small, too, so that you can make the same journey and see all the beautiful things I have seen."
"That fat fish, who was the Dragga of all the other fat fishes, thought for a minute and then said, "Let me see how small the stream is that you claim to come from." Then it lazily followed the little golden fish to the stream, and when he saw that the stream was so shallow that he could not even slip his smallest fin between the mud and the surface, he blew a stream of angry bubbles and turned scornfully on the little golden fish. He said: "Silly little minnow! How dare you trouble me with your foolish fantasies? I am much older, and much wiser than you, for I am the Dragga of all the fishes in this pool! You could never slip through that tiny stream, for I cannot even put by smallest fin in it without it touching the surface!"
"And with an arrogant swish of his enormous tail, the greediest and fattest fish swam back to the shadows of his lily pad to finish his lunch, and seconds besides. The little golden fish stared after him, and was very sad that the Dragga fish would not listen. He tried to tell a few other fat fishes the same thing he'd told their Dragga, but each one always called him a liar, and would swim away. Finally, the little golden fish realized that no one would ever believed him, so he quietly slipped away into the stream and swam back out towards the river.
"Only a moon after his visit, there was a drought high in the mountains, and the stream that fed the pool ran dry. The water in the pool slowly became lower and lower, which made the big, fat fishes more and more afraid, until the day came when their was no more water in the pool. Those fat, greedy fishes lay gasping and flopping in the mud, until they finally died.
"But the little golden fish, whose curiosity and bravery led him through the shallow stream and down the creek, was living very, very happily in the beautiful granite den in the clear, green river."
Midian finished brightly, and wagged his tail. He particularly liked this story, and it was one of the few he knew that didn't have Fren as a main character. 'Fren is never even mentioned in that story, now that I think of it.' The young Ge-Radian cocked his head thoughtfully.

(Sorry for the delayed reply and for the crummy post >.<)
So the little fishy makes it back to the greedy fishies...The adolesent gave a disappointed sigh seeing as that put a massive damper on his own story, right before the epic battle too of all things!
Now he'd never know if the valiant blue fishy would save his family. The disappointed pup sighed relucantly listening to the story rather then making his own.As Butterfly's story ended he tried his best to appear like he'd been paying attention the whole time.It was undoubtedly a vain endeavor seeing as questions of the story would surely be asked.
"Uhhh..."The confused varg began trying to think up praise for a story he'd hardly listened to.
Well crud..Amandus found himself thinking, assuming he had convinced firey little Midian that he had paid attention the cover was proabaly blown now.
The uneasy little varg watched the other for a few more moments and decided it'd be best to just move on rather then dwell on this.
"Is it my turn?" the blue backed varg asked almost nervously.

(no worries) Fortunately for Fish, Midian was too preoccupied with his own thoughts to notice that the brown-and-blue pup hadn't paid much attention to his story. 'I wonder how many other stories I know that don't have Fren in them? There's the one with Sita and Larka,' he thought, quirking his brow. 'And there's also one with the little golden oriole. And the one with the songbird and the cub.' But after that, Midian couldn't recall any stories in which Fren lacked a part. He was such a prevalent figure in wolf lore, it was difficult to find stories without him in these lands.
'Well, maybe Fish knows one,' Midian thought, looking back at the flustered little wolf. "Well, yes. I suppose it is," the amber clad youth replied kindly, giving the youngster a friendly smile. He wondered why Fish was acting so anxious, but decided that it was only stage-fright. 'And since this is only a dream, I'm sure Fish will get over it once he starts telling me one of his stories...' Now that Midian thought about it, however, he realized that Fish would only be telling him a story he already knew. He frowned, disappointed, but settled back anyway to hear the tale. 'Well, I love to hear a story over again anyway. It's never the same story twice, even in the retelling.'

//Hope you don't mind me joining. I don't want to intimidate your charries, but just wanted a semi-active thread. Ha ha. I promise I don't bite.//
Sabla trotted through the pine forest, the sappy, sticky smell sweet and sharp in her nostrils. A small breeze carried the scent, filling the air so heavy with the smell that everything seemed either pushed or pulled by the mere musk. The breeze tussled Sabla's rustic pelt, making it shine under the rare sunspots between the trees. Her tail waved gently behind her, the tip dipped in the black ink of a night sky. Her cheeks were striped in the same manner, giving her a slight vixen look that shone from her bright green eyes.
She seemed to bounce atop the pine needles that littered the forest, shaking those that stuck to her paws in one swift motion. The femme was happy, despite the recent chaos that the Balkar had struck against her pack in the murder of her dragga, Kadin. She was on her guard, as she had gotten into the habit of, and her eyes searched the trees as her ears quivered to pick up a noise, any noise. It was very rare for her to be as happy and almost careless as she was now, but on such a splendid and sun-filled day, how could anyone with a cheery attitude resist filling with glee?
A small noise disrupted her funk, and she snapped back into sentry mode. She inhaled sharply, smelling underneath the pine forest musk, and scented wolf. Not making a noise, she snook through the underbrush and watched carefully.
Two vargs, a pup and a yearling, stood on the edge of the woods in a clearing. The menn //ha ha! I just made that up. *laughs*// seemed to be swapping stories. The younger listened, rather inattentive, had a bright splash of the day sky upon its back, an odd marking for a varg indeed. The older of the two was an average brown and seemed to be lost in telling the story of a fish's journey from his lonely home to the unknown and back again. Sabla listened in, interested in the pup's stories for it had been so long since she heard one herself. She settled to the ground quietly, listening in in secrecy and not wanting to startle the yearlings and interrupt the story. A smile crept on her face and youth filled her as she was lost in the mann's story and her own imagination.

(powerplayed with permission; sorry its a bit on the short side :P) Midian gazed fixedly at the anxious Koran youth, a friendly smile slapped on his face and his tail swishing lazily back and forth across the sweet, green clovers. His orange-rimmed ears were cocked attentively forward, and he was patiently waiting for Fish to begin his tale. His young, preoccupied friend, however, was growing more fidgety by the second, and Midian was growing a bit concerned when the brown-blue wolf finally shook his head. "Never mind," said Fish. "Uh, I gotta go." With that, the cybernetic pup scurried away into the nearby copse of trees and undergrowth, leaving Midian feeling utterly bemused by this sudden departure. If he'd wanted to, the amber youth could easily have taken off after him, tracked him down, and demanded an explanation. But, since this was a dream, Midian merely looked after him, his brow knitted together, perplexed by the strange course of his sleep.
"Well, so much for that," said Midian aloud, and with a large yawn, he glanced out into the bright, airy meadow. His mind drifted lazily over his brief conversation with Fish - the war between Koran and the Balkar, the story Fish was about to tell. He remembered his own story - the Curious Fish - and tried to rework some of the kinks in his storytelling; he should have put on a booming, ugly voice for the fat Dragga fish, and a pleading, soft voice for the little golden one. Perhaps he should have shortened his tale by cutting out some inconsequential details. 'Or maybe not. I liked it,' Midian thought, cocking his head sideways. 'Well... I wonder how long this dream is going to last anyway. In most, I would have woken up by now. Maybe there's something I haven't done yet that will wake me up. That war, maybe. Perhaps I can find out where it is. Perhaps they're waiting for me... Maybe Fish will be there?'
Midian stood and stretched his long legs, his tail fluffing up behind him and his ears flattening briefly against his skull. When he felt satisfactorily awake enough, he began to trot once more against the tree-line, never wavering further out into the meadow, nor closer in to the trees. Little did he know, however, that he was quickly approaching the hiding place of an unknown watcher, one who'd been listening to his story and one who'd seen the quick escape of his audience.

The blue-splashed varg, dubbed Fish, quickly grew fidgety and unattentive, nearly squirming in the spot like a fish out of water. The brown mann waited patiently for his response, which was brief, stating he had to go. And he was off, jumping over and through bushes and a log.
The yearling looked off as the pup went, then wandered on the edge of the treeline, getting closer and closer to the hidden wolf waiting in the brush.
Sabla stood up slowly, not wanting to scare the yearling. She let out a soft croon, emerging from the woods in a gentle manner, slightly in front of the mann, not right upon him. As soon as the sun hit the fae's pelt, she stuck out from the grass and trees like a sore thumb, an auburn spot upon the landscape.
She tilted her head downward, giving the mann an informal and friendly greeting that suggested no hostility, yet keeping her tail held high, a subtle signal of dominance and her status as a varg.
"I loved your story." she smiled, "I think you're a great story-teller."

He padded quietly, as was his trademark, and though his thoughts wandered far from his current situation, his mind was on full alert. He could hear the forest and meadow around him breathe as the soft winds gently rustled the leaves and grasses. He could smell every bit of sweet bliss in this sun-drenched land: the chuckling stream, the cool clovers, and the warm earth. Yet, for all the wolf's keen senses and powerful instincts, he never saw Sabla coming. Despite her slow and meticulous entrance into his peripherals, and then straight into his line of sight, he was still spooked by her sudden and unexpected appearance. He flicked his ears forward, and his body grew taut with surprise, but as soon as he looked her over once, he knew she meant him no harm. 'Whew,' he thought as a smile brimmed on his face. 'I thought she might be a warrior for.. well, for whoever Koran is fighting.' But as he dipped his head in a subtle sign of submission, he realized her scent was very nearly the same as Fish's - aside from the individual aroma.
'She's from Koran too?' He cocked his head curiously, and very nearly missed her compliment. Fortunately, his vanity would not allow him to let a good word go unheeded, so he blinked in mild surprise and said, "Oh, you heard it did you? I think it could use some work, but thank you." Of course, her statement begged the question: 'How long was she hiding there? Was she spying on me?' Conceited though it may sound, he still imagined that this was a dream, and that the activities of all the Varg in it revolved around him, more or less. He decided not to be coy; he would be waking up eventually and this would all just be a pleasant memory, so he chose to be very up front with her: "Fish told me there was a war. I'd like to be apart of it before I wake up. Maybe I can learn a few things, even if this is just a dream. Would you mind taking me there, Sparrow?"
He grinned, pleased with the name. Her beautiful vivid fur reminded him of nothing so much as a russet sparrow, with a glorious red crown and nape, creamy gray underbelly, and charcoal feathers in its wings. He particularly liked to see them, and chase them when he could, for they were both appealing to look at and creative aviators in the sky. He cocked his head, expecting this apparition to delightedly take him - as a powerful and omnipotent warrior of Ge-Rad - to the battle site, to aid the Koran wolves in their retaliation.
