The bitterly cold Northern wind bit deep into the solitary figure of the snow covered wolf. The sun was finally setting after providing little warmth to the mountainside, barren except for a few scarce shrubs, dotted aimlessly across the snow covered side of the fog shrouded slope.
The wind at least kept the mist at bay, but unlike a saviour, it brought new challenges for the lone, female wolf. The temperature was dropping due to the wind chil, and if she didn't find shelter soon, then she would be in trouble.
Her pelt colour was invisible under the thick layer of sticky snow she had collected while laying down, getting through a blizzard that had thankfully stopped. She got unsteadily to her unusually large paws, a cramp ebbing on one of her leg muscles, and stretched, her maw opeining to reveal sharp, dagger like, shiny white teeth, and a hot pinky tongue that lolled out of her lightish grey maw and made puffs of white plume around her.
Her thin, wiry legs sank inevitably into the deep snow, making it harder to find shelter. Her amber gold eyes, almost eagle-like, searched hungrily for any sign of a cave, a crevice, or even some bushes to take rest in, but so far she had no luck. Her rather thin complexion made her look weak, but she had hidden strength, and she ploughed on roughly through the drifts of snow, never wavering.
The half moon arose to take over the sun's watch of the Earth, and stars started to twinkle. the brilliant night sky hadn't a cloud in sight, and the young female trotted finally on some harder ground, as she padded cautiously into a small, warm cave etched into the mountainside, protected by a screen of dead branches and twigs.
Immediatly, the air was warmer, and the she-wolf shook off the thick snow, revealing a light pelt, which was splatted with bits of ice left from the snow. Her white belly was thin, and you could see some bones. She was in desperate need of a meal.
The small shelter was only a couple of metres in length, but it was big enough for the young female, and she lay down heavily onto the hard floor, her head resting gently on her two muddied front paws. She closed her drooping eyes, and was soon lulled asleep.
(more coming soon)
