Building Up Your Character
Sometimes it takes a while to get the hang of RPing, especially if you are new to this kind of RPG. To make a larger post that touches on your characters feelings and emotions, and sometimes to make for an interesting thread on the whole, your character needs to be a little more than 2D.
I've noticed that a lot of people's first characters tend to be rather generic, always friendly, and nice, and brave. Lovely characteristics, but sometimes they don't make for a character you can really sink your teeth into. Everyone has negative qualities, so you should add some to your character.
Personally, I tend to find it hard to RP a "nice" character, I get bored of them so easily. But there's one thing that runs through all of my characters, they're all as stubborn as hell. (They take after me, the poor darlings. =P)
Anyway, adding a few undesirable qualities can make for a more interesting RP, and makes it more interesting for you yourself to RP them.
For example, my character Shayla is a drama queen, in a nutshell, that's what she is. She tends to blow everything out of proportion, and pretty much everything is black or white, and there's no grey area. But what can be good about her, is that she is extremely passionate about the things and those who she loves. So her good qualities are that she's fiercely protective and loyal (very much linked to he dynamic and action-filled past), and can be very loving to those who earns her trust. But she's pretty much turned extremely malicious and spiteful lately, which are rather undesirable qualities, but make for interesting scenarios (e.g. right now she is trying to get someone thrown out of the pack).
Another character of mine, Tasá, was my first character, and she's still going strong. She is so developed though, since at first she was just quiet, and not actually that evil. But I got bored, so she went through some changes, eventually turning into the crazed, blood-thirsty cannibal that she is. and I wuvs her. ^^
If you haven't yet decided on the personality qualities of your character, it's easier to RP stuff that you know. Pick out a couple of your favorite qualities about yourself, and exaggerate them, and perhaps some of your worst qualities, and exaggerate them too.
If you can expand on your character's feelings, and have a distinct behaviour and speech for your character, it will help you create much more interesting posts.
