"That's alright...I'm odd too," was his reply. The temperature had dropped, though his thick coat kept him from noticing it too much. Throughout their conversation, he had occassionally eyed his den longlingly, though he would've rather stayed outside with his newfound companion. Had the foxhole been a bit larger, Dane might have even invited Dakota inside, though he was the only one who had ever used it [save for the foxes who had abandoned it in the first place].
"Oh, you're not keeping me from anything, trust me." He almost dreaded being alone, reminded once again of the voices in his head that quarreled endlessly, but then again..he had always cherished solitude. Maybe he did desire to have time to himself, at least for the night... He knew meeting Dakota again was inevitable, he seemed to pine for companionship as much as Dane did. He started walking slowly towards his den, keeping his eyes on Dakota.

Dakota was glad to see the Dane didn't appear to be in too big a rush to get away from him. Though Dane could be edge at times Dakota liked her personality. He was strong but seemed to open up more if you at the right things to say. Definatly not one to suffer a fool.
Dakota thought he saw Dane's emotions playing on his face. He didn't seem to want to be alone either but at the same time edged twards his den. Dakota thought maybe it would be for the best if that at least spent a few hours alone just to get everything that had happened recently in order in their own minds.
Making one last nod in Dane's direction Dakota winked one emerald eye at him and turned to trot off into the woods in search of some place to stay for the night. The snow cruched as he swept over it. And he had to spot every once in a while to keep the clumps of snow from forming in between his toe. He wasn't going far, just far enough to give Dane his peace.

He smiled at Dakota before settling into his den, near the mouth of the burrow. Knowing Dakota wouldn't go far put his tired mind at ease, though he still wanted to be left alone for now. He rested his heavy head on his paws, breathing in the fresh night air through his flaring nostrils. Dane was like a puzzle, one wrong move and you would have to start getting to know him all over again. Befriending him could be a hassle for this reason, and because of his rotten attitude. Once befriended his attitude might die down a bit... though no one knew for sure since it had never been done. Tonight was the first time in a long, long while he had let his defenses down and opened up to someone. Not to mention enjoying the company of another.
Mismatched eyes stood half open as the effects of a trying day began to take their toll. He needed sleep, if only for a few hours. When he awoke again, he would find Dakota and continue their conversation.
((Sorry...Sorta lame post...))

Looking back one more time Dakota trotted off into the trees. Tonite had turned out much diffrent then what Dakota had originally thought. Dane seemed to have opened himself up a bit. And was more willing to talk. Definatly a compleat change from the strange varg he had first encountered in the woods that night. Finding a soft spot in the snow Dakota flopped down on his side. It wasn't too cold and his thick winter coat was providing ample insulation. Twitching his ears Dakota listened to the sounds of the night. He could hear night owls hooting at the emerged for theiy nocturnal huntings. He also hear the night lera creep out of their dens in search of food. Slowly he closed his bright eyes and drifted off to sleep, content with how today had ended and excited for what was to come. ((Lol, thats ok. Mine isn't any better ))

Uninterupted sleep made for a peaceful evening. Dane always preferred dreamless sleep, because when he did dream, it was nothing good. Sometimes, nightmares even plagued his thoughts while he was awake. Hopefully that would all change...
Fenris was just making his way into the sky when Dane awoke and stretched out his lightly-colored legs, his maw open wide in a yawn that showed all of his teeth. After a great deal of stretching and yawning, he recalled the happenings of the night before and crawled out of the den on his belly to stand outside. Once outside, he began searching for Dakota, knowing he probably didn't go far. After a few minutes of searching and with the aid of his nose, he found him, lying beneath some tall trees and in the soft snow. Still sleeping. A smile played across his muzzle as he nudged him roughly in the shoulder. "Time to get up, sunshine..do you always sleep this late?"

Dakota's sleep that night was pretty calm. He didn't dream but every once in a while the night wind or hoot of the owls would stur him from his slumber.
Dakota awolk to the feeling of a cold nose puching forcefully agianst his sholder. Opening his eyes Dakota saw the warm sun creeping over the tree tops, and the firey colors were starting to mix with the sky's clear blue. A lopsided smile flashed on the young varg's black face. "Not really", he said. "Last night was a good night though, the perfect tempature." Rolling onto his back Dakota continued to stare up at the flaming sky. Drops of chilly water fell down from the tree tops and landed on Dakota's black face. He chucled as the cool water sliped down his muzzle and onto the snow covered ground.
Intent on not keeping Dane waiting Dakota stood up and shook out his fur. Streatching his long legs out in front of him Dakota opened his mouth for a big yawn. "Now what?", he asked looking at Dane.

Cold water drops fell from he trees above onto Dane's dark coat. After shaking himself dry, he smirked at Dakota. An idea had just hit him square in the muzzle, something he had been wanting to try for a while...
"Are you any good at hunting? Since the day was so beautiful, I'm sure there are some herla about here somewhere...I've never hunted them, but with you....we could try and take one down together. What do you say?" Had they been humans, Dane would have extended his hand for a handshake, to close the deal. It was the perfect day to go hunting, maybe it was even early enough to catch the herla unawares...Dane could tell the sun would be high in the sky come noontime, and was sure that together, he and Dakota could claim a herla on their own...

Dakota's trademark lopsided grin returned to his face. I haven't really done much hunting myself. I was young when my family was taken so I never really compleated my training. But it can't be all that hard, and I have had to hunt on my own a few times already so I do have some practice with it.
"So whats on the menu do you think?", he asked. In the lush forest there was bound to be many diffrent types of lera and the varg could have their pic of any. "I am partial to rabbit and such myself. But then agian that is really all I have ever tasted.", he said winking. "But you know this place better than I do, where are the good hunting grounds?" Dakota cocked his head to one side and watched Dane, waiting for a response. Dakota was excited to once agian try out the hunt.

He chuckled and began walking through the trees, knowing that Dakota would follow him. "We're going after something much larger than rabbit...and a lot better tasting..." His words left the young varg in suspense as they padded through the forest. "Hunting is not hard, I had to teach myself too. I've never gone after big game...but I'm sure we can handle it...I've seen my dad do it before..."
"Herla is what's on the menu...You'll know where we'll be hunting when we get there...And you'll have to listen carefully to the words I speak to you. We can't mess this up if we want to eat..." He knew that herla at this time of year were rare, but he had caught their faint scent on the breeze, and prayed that they were still where he thought they were... He was leading Dakota to a meadow, no doubt frozen over with snow this time of year, but the herla were not too picky to dig for grass beneath the snow. A smile crossed his muzzle at the thought of delicious deer meat on the tip of his tongue...He looked back at Dakota to make sure he was still following.
Once at the meadow, Dane crouched down low, nodding to Dakota to follow his example. They were situated low in the brush, and a herd of grazing herla lay in front of them, grazing lazily just as Dane had predicted. He looked to his side at Dakota, his off-set eyes held a tone of seriousness. "Now...you say you haven't much hunting experience? Then you will be the one to go out there and flush them out..." His voice was a low whisper. "Just herd them past here, where I'll be waiting. Weaklings and yong ones will fall behind you, and that is when I will go out and kill one for us....Understand?" He hoped Dakota knew what to do, and if not, to ask questions before their plan was set into action. When hunting herla, there was no room for mistakes, especially with only two varg.

Dakota folled the light colored varg through the forest and listened intently. His black ears twitched as he took in Dane's words, and he was growing more excited by the moment.
When they reatched the clearing where the Herla were located Dakota's green eyes opened wide. He had never taken on prey so large, but Dane's big frame and tough additude reasured him that success would be the outcome. Slowly his big jaws started to water as he watched the Herla's big bodies move around as they searched for and bits of grass that were still there.
Glancing over at Dane he nodded his head slightly and procceded to crouch low to the ground. With his ears layed back agianst his head he almost looked like a short black snake moving quickly over the froven earth. Circling aroung the back of the herd Dakota moved in close, and waited for just the right moment.
When the time finally came he sprang out of hiding and spooked the deer into movment. Forcing them into the direction where Dane's deadly jaws were waiting.

A smile crossed his muzzle as his features filled with anticipation. It seemed that Dakota understood perfectly what to do- and he was glad of it. Silently,he looked back at the herla and in his mind, picked out which ones he thought would taste the best, and the ones he was thinking about going after. Instinct directed him to the weakest ones of the herd, they were in the center of the group as a sort of protection from predators, but it wouldn't help them today...
As Dakota sprang from the brush, Dane lay in wait, his tail swishing back and forth as he watched his friend run out like a little shepard to herd up their meal. The herd rushed right past him, yards from his nose. Hundreds of thundering hooves shook the ground as he watched and waited. Dakota seemed to be pushing himself to try his best, and Dane couldn't help but feel a little proud. Finally, after what seemedlike forever ,it was Dane's turn to contribute...
Just as he had thought, trailing in back of the herd were a few young herla, struggling to keep up but failing miserably. There was also a full grown female who appeared to be tired or sick, not standing a chance in a fight for survival. Dane licked his dark lips and decided he would go after the female, for she would provide a much better meal than a measily calf... Readying himself, he leapt from his hiding spot and continued in hot pursuit of his prey.
Running much faster than the pathetic lera, taking her down would be no problem. Adjusting his pace so he was in line with her neck, he made a leap, jaws gaping wide, and latched onto the tender throat of the deer, dragging it down to the ground in one swift movement. Warm life spilled from the wound onto his tongue, fueling the desire for the oncoming bloodlust. The herla lay there, still twitching, so he made one last fatal bite to the neck to put it out of its misery. Fear and life fled from its black eyes as they glazed over with death. Tilting his head back, he let out a powerful howl, calling to Dakota that the chase was over and they could now feed.

Finishing his part of the hunt Dakota stood back and watched as Dane's strong body surged across the hard ground. It seemed so effortless for him and Dakota wondered if he actually saw a glimer of happyness on the big varg's handome face.
When Dane opened his strong jaws and took down the weak hearla Dakota was proud to have been part of the chase. It seemed to bring more energy coursing through his body and he couldn't keep a series of excited dog-like barks from escaping from his mouth. His whole body vibrated as he saw the blood begin to spill over Dane as the animal finally fell to the ground.
Leaping quickly into the action Dakota answered Dane's call with his own excited howl. Then moving as quickly as his long dark legs would allow him he flew over across the field and skidded to a stop in front of Dane and the deer's dead body. Licking his lips Dakota grinned at Dane and tilted his head in the direction of the warm sun. "Look at all that meat!", he exclaimed "There is enough there for a whole pack!" Looking once more at Dane he smiled as he filled his mouth with the first warm chunk of meat...it seemed like the best thing he had ever tasted.

Dakota was fast approaching on the horizon, obviously having heard his call and hungry for herla meat. When he arrived, Dane smiled down at the young pup's enthusiasm. "Aye, it could, but I'm sure we could eat like a whole pack." Not waiting a moment longer, he dug into his kill, tearing a generous sized portion of meat from the tender shoulders. Blood dripped from his light muzzle and stained the ground beneath him. The sheer flavor of herla was one of the rare things that made him happy, much better than rabbit or fox. Looking at his friend, Dakota seemed to be enjoying the kill as much as he was. "You did great out there, how do you like it?"
((Agh, I gotta go. I'll probably be back later.))

Dakota lifted his wide muzzle out of the freash meat and looked at Dane. The warm blood had stained his fur an almost morbid dark crimson red. The blood inside his brain was now pounding with excitment and his breath was coming in short rapid breaths. "Thanks", he panted. "I did like it, it was my first time with any big game that required more than 1 varg to take down."
Dakota had been marlved as he watched Dane work to kill the old deer as it ran past him. It had been amazing to watch his thick muscles streatch and move under the varg's light colored pelt. Dakota couldn't remember if he had ever gotten a chance to see his own pack hunt, so this was like a whole new experiance for him.
With his belly full of the warm herla meat Dakota sat back on his haunchs and watched Dane as he finished his meal. The air was cool now and it provided a nice enviroment for the varg. Continuing to watch his companion in front of him Dakota felt his pride for himself and for his friend overtake his thoughts. Closing his eyes Dakota swayed slightly in the cool breeze and let the relaxed feeling overtake him.

Blood stained his normally peraly white muzzle as he spoke through bites of herla. "It is amazing how exhilerating the hunt can be...It fills you with such energy you never knew you had before." Thinking back to when Dakota had chased the herla down, he was surprised at how well the young Varg had handled the situation. For never having hunted large game before, he did very well as Dane remembered watching him cover the ground in large bounds, blood pumping through his long, black legs as he breathed in great lungfulls of air to rejuvinate his muscles. He had to smle again at the thought and how well they had done.
"Yes, we were quite a team," he added proudly, taking another large chunk from the beast's shoulder and devouring it ravenously. After eating his fill, he lay back, leaning away from the intoxicating scent of the carcass that might entice him to eat more than he needed to. Breathing in the cool morning air felt good and contrasted the heat in his mouth and belly from the warm kill. He stretched his light-colored legs out behind him and relaxed, letting the contents of his stomach settle.
