Personally I'll stick with what I know which is pretty much anything from the Spitz family.
Huskies, Malamute, Pomeranians, I just love them. They're all so cute, affectionate, loyal, hardworking, and easy to train if you actually know what you're doing.
Shepards and collies are cool too, and Irish Wolfhounds are just awesome. However mutts have got to be the best of the bunch since they're more resiliant to genetic problems then pedigree breeds.

The idea that mix-bred dogs are better off genetics/health wise is an old myth. Mixing two breeds does not set them up for better systems but rather opens the dog up for the genetic/health problems of two or more breeds.
It is also is a dog to dog case. A well breed GSD mixed with a well bred Dalmatian for example may result in a pup exempt from breed problems but that is simply because of who the parents are, it has nothing to do with being a mixed-breed.

yah for example a GSD that is bred from a CKC or CKA or whatever registered parents might not have such a high chance in developing hip displasia(sp?) as a GSD bred from a backyard breeder. I depends on the parents i'd say.

Collies? Behave? HA!! Yeh fair enough they're good dogs to train and all, but a lot of collie's I've met are arrogant and are just too focused on what they want to do, sometimes so much so they forget you're there *coughMegancough* Eh...My neighbor had a mutt-collie mix, and she behaved pretty good, but I'm not sure I personally never had a collie. And it's been so long since I've had a dog.
We've been stuck with horrible cats that hate us and won't die! I wish they would go away so we can have a dog! *sob*

True, true. German shepherds are awesome. My uncle has an original german shepherd. The story goes that german shepherds were huge! But, Hitler had bred them with littler dogs to make them more vicious and better gaurd dogs. It became popular and everyone forgot the originals.
Which are still in Europe, by the way. *moves eyebrows* They are so much gentler, calmer, and ferocious-sounding than the other ones. And they're about the size of Great Danes. Well, maybe a little smaller....

Sabla, are you speaking of German lined GSDs? Possibly working lined dogs? That the only thing I can think of that could maybe be equated to the 'original' GSDs. Granted Shepherds are not my breed so I am by no means an expert but I really am having a hard time beliving the information you have given. A little smaller then Great Danes? I severly doubt that.
However, like I said..I'm no expert on the breed. Any chance you can provide some reputable sites that back up your information on these original shepherds?

True, I'm no expert on dogs either, much less German Shepherds. And I'm not sure that Hitler bred them to be smaller, that's just according to my uncle but what does he know?
Seriously, though, his dog, Jack, is alot bigger than a normal shepherd. But whether he's one of many other large shepherds, or just a freak of nature, I'm not sure. He's just really big.
If you're sitting on a chair at the table, and he's sitting on the ground, his eyes reach your elbows and you have to fight him off just to get a bite to eat. But, he's a gentle dog and is afraid of water.
As for sites to back it up.... I'll have to get back on you with that. It may be hard to find.....

All small dogs are ugly and deserve to be EATEN. Unless they have the spitting image of a mini version large dog. Then they're cute and deserve cuddlefuddles.
I used to have a Siberian Husky. She was amazing. Hell yeah to skateboards and huskies with a parrot on your head!! ...'Cept it sucks when you're yanked over a rock and lose balance.. and the parrot latches onto your skull. >.o Eh. But I do want a Great Dane and a GSD. Hm. I'm settling on Siberian Huskies 'cause, well, you just can't beat those skateboarding days. <3
SMALL DOGS ARE FOOD.
Psssst you forgot any breed of heeler. ): I have a blue heeler.. Awesome and hyper but quite obedient and the easiest dog I've ever trained. I reccommend one for you psycho folk out there.

Some dogs of the same breed can be taller than others. My GSD is alot bigger, then the more 'slender' looking ones. His father was a slender looking one, though his mother was a more bulky dog. Its aaall in the genes

[glow=black,4,000]I'm not saying Collie's aren't good or they don't behave... I just mean that they have a tendancey to just forget you're there when they have their mind focused on something. Fair enough all dogs can be like that... But from my experience I've jsut noticed it more in Collies than other dogs simply because of their herding instincts.
I mean Megan - dad's collie - has NEVER been trained as a sheep-dog, but she will try and round anything up. We took her to the beach once and she was trying to round a woman and a pram up, totally turning a deaf ear to us and forgetting we were there. I found it funny of course!
It was worse when dogs came into the kennels that were not so good with other dogs and she wouldn't listen to us. She'd just end up winding the angry dog up...which was not very funny for anyone >.<
And about the large breeds. Well we had a Newfoundland come in called Barney. Seriously, he was the size of a small horse...in fact maybe bigger actually. He was a giant. And normal Newfoundlands are big yes, but we had several of them come in to the kennels as regulars and none I've seen have ever been as large as him. Just like my boyfriend's dalmation is a dog but he's the size of an average bitch. He's undersized for his breed. It just happens...[/glow]

-nods- As far as I know the actually 'German Lined' GSDs are a bit bigger. The standard is different for them then the American bred German Shepherds so I am sure there are defiantly size differences. No need to worry about the sites, I was just curious. Sorry if it came off a bit rough.
My opinion on the Collie issue is pretty standard. Collies are extremely smart and therefore need A LOT of training. Not the average training you would give to a dog. The need extra + someone who really knows what they are doing. You have to be able to get through the strong instincts that they still carry. Def. not a 'first time owner' breed, in my opinion.

Do you mean like a miniature horse? By standard Newfies are supposed to be around 28 inches at the shoulder (for males) and 26 inches for females. Mini horses are not supposed to exceed 34 inches. So, I could possibly see a Newfie jumping up to that hight. Not much bigger though. Even as a freak thing...-shrugs- but its all possible.
