((so glad to be in a thread with you again!!!))
Cairo lay beneath a blooming oak tree whose once naked, frail branches were again breathing life. Small buds appeared about every twig, reminders that soon large green leaflets would form to shade those who sat by its trunk. The idea of the oncoming spring did little to raise the cream fae's spirits however. Even the warmth of the day seemed to do nothing to spark the fire in her bi hued eyes. Cai simply lay there with her head on her paws, watching the day pass her by.
Occassionly she would shift her weight or raise her head to catch the sound of a squirrel or bird yet she mostly lay unmoving. Depression plagued the poor fae and mocked her with the day she refused to enjoy. The excitement of the pack's sudden burst in acitivity had rather died down and any talk of a celebration ceased to exist. Of course Cairo was still more than pleased to be home but her leave from the lands still haunted her.
She recalled first coming to the lands of Deor with a new found friendly mascu named Dakota. For the first time all day a smile graced her features as she thought of him. He was a silly varg who always held an air of happiness and playfullness. Dak could be shy too but he loved to be in the company of his friends when he could. He was quite adorable and in his own way handsome. Of course Cairo had to see past his more goofy side to appreciate his good looks.
Why did she have to make such a rash decision when she had left the lands of Deor? Sure she was confused about who she liked and wanted to be with but now everything was ruined. Chalos was an extremely handsome dragga who was confident and fun but she didn't really know him. Dakota was her friend but she longed for his company now more than ever. Then there was the mascu who hurt her, who left her by herself: Bane.
Although even now, thinking of him she couldn't help but want to see him again. Cairo longed to know what had happened to make him just leave her to wake up alone. No varg could be that heartless. Right? Sighing, Cai wondered if she should call to Dakota or not. She could use a friend but she was also afraid to tell anyone of what had happened. Surely they would view her differently or even worse treat her differently. Ignoring such fears she raised her cream maw to the skies to call out to her good friend Dak. If just thinking about him cheered her up then surely his presence would do wonders.

[Aye, me too! Nice new banner, Cairo sure is purdy ]
Lifting his head off the damp ground Dakota let the light wind sweep over him. Sprawled causally in a resting position he took advantage of the shade somewhere between the lush trees of Deor pack land. Being a quite mann Dak spent the majority of his time alone, deep in his own thoughts, often finding comfort simply in the scenery around him. After a moments time he realized the wing carried another special element on this day. A familiar voice traveled with it, echoing softly off of the rocks and trees. Dakota's dark ears twitched as he listened, recognizing the voice at once. "Cairo.", he breathed voice barely above a whisper.
The cream colored fae had returned to Deor lands only suns before and though it had died down some Dak could feel the crackling excitement that coursed through the pack upon her return. He'd seen her briefly on that day, as many of the pack members had. Rejoicing in her happy face and for a moment forgetting his own worries. Yet now, as she called him to her a wave of doubt washed through his mind. Was this really a good idea? Meeting her again? She had left him after all. After they traveled to the lands together, he coming just for her....she'd left. The details of her departure seemed to elude Dak but the sting of her quick exit still buzzed softly in his mind.
Still...he couldn't ignore the fact that he did want to see her again. Alone this time so that perhaps he could speak more openly. Laughing softly Dakota's trade mark half grin played across his maw as he recalled their first meeting. Seeing her across the meadows he remembered buffing his chest out, prancing and showing off in front of her the best he could. It felt like only moments before she asked shyly if he would he traveling in the same direction as herself. Making up his mind then Dak shifted slightly and stood to his feet. Taking long easy strides he made his way across the lands, following the echos of Cairo's voice.
As Cairo's slim form came into view Dakota slowed his pace. She too was resting, just under an oak tree as he had been. Taking soft steps he crept forward, breaking through the thin barrier of vegetation, standing there then, feeling exposed in the open land. "You called?", he whispered quietly, a light grin tugging at his lips. Leaning back on his haunches Dak settled into a somewhat relaxed position, curling his thick tail around him as he sat. Tilting his head slightly Dakota gazed calmly upon Cairo. He could forgive her....the process was already in place. It was doubtful that he had ever really been mad in the first place and the male's own short journey had served well to heal most of his hidden wounds. Silently he waited for the fae's voice. Wondering what this meeting would bring.

((Thanks!!! Compliments to Lucivar of course for the beautiful work!))
Dakota's presence seemed to do two things to Cairo at the same time. In one way she felt a glow of joy at seeing her silly obsidian Dak. Then again the wieght that lay on her heart made the happiness she longed to feel dwindle. The trademark smirk of her friend was already placed on his maw as he wondered why she had requested his presence. Cairo truly wished she could say that she simply just wished to be in his company on such a nice day but she could not.
A lump seemed to lodge itself in her throat as she got ready to speak so that she had to regain her composure. Pushing herself into a sitting position like that of Dakota's, Cai forced herself to begin. She felt no need to dance around the subject even though it would be difficult. "Dak..." Pausing she raised her bi hued eyes to stare into his emerald ones. "Dak, I need to talk to someone and you're the only one I feel I can go to. I haven't known Lucivar for as long as I have known you and Chalos deals with enough and well..." A slight meek smile illuminated Cairo's features for a moment. "You're my friend, I trust you. You're the first one I thought of to come to."
Everything she said was the truth. Now that she found the courage to begin telling him, Cai felt as if she were babbling on. Swallowing hard and closing her eyes to hide the pain that was resurfacing, she continued. "But I'm scared." Reliving that night with Bane for a moment, a shiver seemed to rush through her cream hued body. So many questions were unanswered and so many fears still needed to be put to rest.
After what felt like forever, Cairo reopened her beautiful yet untypical eyes. Seeing Dakota sitting before her just as before filled her with the warmth of knowing that she was making the right decision. Somehow it would work out so that everything would be okay again. Cai knew that Dak could help somehow.

Shifting slightly Dak tired to remain still as Cairo spoke, but the pain that now seemed to be registering on her face was starting to worry him. What had happened while the fae was gone? Obviously she had returned diffrent...older, but now as he saw her there was an unmistakable trouble flickering in her bi-colored orbs. He watched her face as a soft smile tried to crease her features, resting there for only a moments before fading back as if it had never happened.
His emerald eyes slid away from her face for a second as he tried to concentrate on what she had just said. He tried to think without watching her, but Cairo's words were having a hard time processing in her mind. Scared? Though there didn't appear to be any wounds on the fae Dak wondered what she had to be scared of. Had someone hurt her? At that thought the mann felt his hackles rise just slightly and his lips curl a bit, revealing the pearly fangs beneath. Sighing heavily Dak tuned his eyes back to Cairo's face. He just didn't know what was coming...nor did he know if he could offer the comfort she seemed to be seeking.
None the less Dakota resolved to at least make some effort. Moving to his feet the ebony male circled the fae once before settling again, this time much closer to her. Pressing his bulking frame against her Dakota rested his head just above her ear. "Its ok..", he whispered. "I'll help you...just tell me whats going on." Turing his head the best he could at such close proximity Dakota glanced at her again. The corner's of his mouth twitched slightly as he struggled to stay positive, keeping the grin plastered on his face.
"Tell me what it is...", he whispered again. "Please tell me whats happened to you. Bracing himself for whatever was to come Dakota knew then that he wanted to be there for her, he always had. Nudging her shoulder gently with his muzzle Dak kept close to her, letting her know he would always be there.
[Ack..so mushy Its too sugary sweet]

((hugs Dak tightly! he's so freaking cute!))
The reassuring words felt just as warm as his gentle touches and closeness. Dak's gestures seemed to be so much more affectionate than the ones of Bane, nights before. Honestly, Cairo couldn't believe she had fallen for the cynical varg at all. Facts were facts however, so she still had to face them. Enjoying the almost medicinal caress of Dakota's head upon her own, Cai was ready to speak only after he once more looked at her.
Pressure seemed to be building so that her breathing felt restricted before she spoke again. Inhaling deeply and then exhaling slowly she cleared her cluttered thoughts to relate to Dak what had happened while she was away.
"When I left Deor I travelled to the river and I met a varg there. A mascu I'd never seen before. We spent the day there together just talking and joking. I had a lot on my mind that day too." The entrie time she spoke, Cairo kept her gaze solely on the ground before her forepaws. There was absolutely no way she could stare into Dak's innocent seeming eyes to retell such a sorrowful tale. "Before I knew it, well it was dark as well as quite cold. He had a way with words I suppose too." It was getting more difficult as the story went on. Before long Dakota would know all. Silently she prayed to Tor that he would not hate her. Best to get it all out now. "One thing led to another. I did something I probably shouldn't have. Well now I KNOW I shouldn't have and he was gone when I woke up!"
Almost crying out the last bit, Cai panted ever so slightly with the stress and reality of the situation hitting her head on. She stole a quick glance to Dak again before averting her gaze back to the ground. Now she spoke almost in a whisper, in between pants or perhaps simply the knot in her throat. "I'm scared. Please don't look at me differently if that's possible." Slouching slightly so her creamy back was now arched as if she were about to lie down, Cai pleaded to Dak. "Don't leave me, Dak."

Dak's bright eyes were unblinking as he watched Cairo's mouth form around her spoken words. Silence settled over the land for what seemed like an eternity as the dark mann's mind wrapped itself around what she had said. When her confession finally sunk in Dakota's eyes grew wide with surprise, quickly covered by a flash of anger. Before he could stop himself a hot headed stream of words spilled from his maw. "Dammit, of course you did the wrong thing Cairo!", he bellowed. His deep voice echoed around him, making the words last a lot longer then intended. As he listed to the anger bounce around them Dak felt instantly sorry that he had ever let them escape in the first place. Its just...what the hell had she been thinking anyway? That this male loved her...after one night? He hadn't thought her to be that unknowing on how the world worked. She was close to his age after all, she should have known better then to let herself be taken like that.
Looking away from her he breathed in deep, letting the air back out in a loud sigh. He'd wanted to help her. He wanted to be there for her, but how was he supposed to deal with this. Did she know how it felt to hear those words? Shaking his head Dak cursed himself silently. He'd already messed this up. It shouldn't be about how he was feeling but rather how the fae was dealing with the issue. Glancing around him Dak noticed that somehow he had ended up away from her again. Taking a step back toward her his voice dropped back to its slow easy tone as he spoke. "Look...Cairo I'm really sorry. I didn't mean that...I don't know what I mean. How I feel." This time it was the male's turn to slide his eyes toward the ground in shame. What had he been thinking..yelling at her like that. Though he knew what had caused it..jealousy like nothing els. Just tell me what it is I can do for you.", he finally said. "I want to be there for you..but I don't know how. I don't know what to do..." The struggling smile returned back to his face, coving his emotions for him. Stepping quickly back toward her Dakota tucked his head under her chin, resting there for only a minute. The fae's last words cut through his thoughts as she nearly begged him to remain with her. "I'll stay" he whispered quietly remaining still. I'll always stay for you.

A whine escaped her aching, self piteous form as Dak's chastising seemed to reverberate off the surrounding oaks. His words weren't very harsh yet still they represented the very reaction that Cairo had feared. Dakota seemed to storm off yet he returned again with a cooler demeanor. He apologized for his initial reaction, then explained how he was willing to help her in whatever way he could. Cai cherished his words. Each one was a prized possession in her mind as he promised to always stay with her.
It was all she really wanted to hear. Cairo's biggest fears were allayed with Dak's more recent reaction. With large, moist looking eyes she turned to face him for the first time since she revealed what had happened. Pushing herself back up to a sitting position, Cai nuzzled into Dakota's obsidian hued chest. Sitting there for a moment she listened to his steady heart beat. Another slight whine escaped as she slowly exhaled.
Auds still back in trepidation she sat beside him, looking into his grassy hued optics. "I know I can't take it back. I know that but I wish I knew why he... why he just left me." Now Cairo's face contorted into a slight scowl. "Some answers would be nice but I don't know if I should even bother seeking him out again. What do you think?" Acting submissively she ever so gently licked his chin with a touch like that of a feather on the wind. "What should I do?"
The cream fae almost felt guilty asking her closest friend for even more enlightenment on the situation. Clearly it upset him but he still was the only one who knew. Besides, if anyone knew what she should do then it would be her loyal Dakota.

A light smile flickered across Dak's featured as Cairo pressed against him. When she tilted her head up for a quick lick on his chin the male was surprised but remained still, keeping his eyes locked on her own bi-colored orbs. In just the span of a few moments it seemed as if their bond had grown. He felt his chest swell with some form of pride at the idea that she had come to him with her problems. He felt secure knowing that she trusted him. Answering her questions however proved to be a task better said then done. Being that he had never been in a situation even remotely similar to hers Dak was at a lose for words. Everything that came to his mind just didn't seem good enough. Buying for time he scanned the scenery around them hoping for some inspiration. The weather had been off and on as of late and with the winter snow melting crystalline puddles scattered themselves throughout the lands. It was only then that Dakota noticed one such pool just beside them.
Peering down at it he watched their reflected forms shimmer on the surface, rippling slowly as the breeze caused small waves. "Lookit that," he said softly to Cairo, tilting his head toward the puddle. "See how you look the same? Even after what that male did to you? Do you know why that is?" His voice carried more of its usual tone now, easy going and soft. Dakota's face now also easily held its happiness and his green eyes glittered brightly "Its because whoever that mann was...he was nothing", Dak easily answered. "You cannot allow him to change who you are. Understand?" His eyes bore into here, seeming to search her mind for the understanding he was trying to give her.
Shaking his head slightly Dak gave his continued with whatever advice he had. "Don't go looking for him again.", he said. " You may think the answers are important now...but do you honestly think he'll give you what you want to hear?" The obsidian varg's voice trailed off as ended abruptly, absent of anything to continue with. Much of the healing would have to be done on the fae's part and Dakota wondered really how much good he was doing. He didn't really have a lot to offer at this point so again the male fell silent waiting for Cairo to give him direction.
[Sorry its so short :/ I ran out of muse there for a bit I think.]

((It's okay! Woah... this got real long real fast! Sorry?))
For the first time during their heart to heart, Cairo allowed herself to smile. It was a true heartfelt smile that could only have been caused by Dak's insight. His reflections on her difficult situation seemed to allieviate the sullen atmosphere that had consumed them previously. The words couldn't have been sweeter to her auds if they were spoken by a cub. Why had she acted so foolishly?
Here in front of her pretty little nose was a varg who understood how a fae should be treated. Not only a fae but another varg in general yet still she had made the decision to spend that night with Bane. Instead of feeling hurt or betrayed, rage seemed to take over. It wasn't that obvious however due to her most peaceful demeanor. She wasn't cruel in any way and she was extremely compassionate. Obviously she had been an easy target for the game playing mascu that had left her all alone.
Dakota was right, Cairo couldn't allow herself to change because of him. It was still difficult to comprehend not being altered in some way by the event. Then again she doubted that Dak meant for her to simply forget about what had occurred. A lesson was to be learned if anything at all.
"I understand and I won't change because of him. I promise." The next bit of information was not as comforting as all the previous things that Dakota had said. She had indeed asked for his advice as to wether or not she should seek Bane out again. Why was it then that his answer disappointed her? Had she learned nothing from the talk they just had? Of course Cairo knew that she going to find him again would probably be a terrible idea however she was a varg who longed for explanation.
Growing slightly frusturated with herself, Cai got to her paws and began to pace back and forth. Her auds were still down and tail low but now her hackles were slightly raised in agitation. "I don't know what I expect to hear from him, Dak!" Snapping at him just made her feel even worse. Lowering her voice she continued. "I'm sorry. It's just I want to know why I let him fool me. It was so stupid of me and so unlike me." Pausing she looked down at her image in the melted snow puddle. With a forepaw she rippled the image with a large splash that sent the water against her legs and chest. "I just feel like I deserve an explanation."
Sighing Cairo leaned back on her haunches, raising her head she gave a longing look to Dakota. She didn't expect any answers from him and she knew this must be quite challenging for him to give advice about. "Thank you Dakota. I really appreciate your help and friendship. I know this is... complicated. You've alredy done alot. Don't feel obligated to do more." Her more meek smile returned making her earlier heartfelt one a distant memory.

Dak smiled back on Cairo, his teeth a bright white against his otherwise midnight pelt. The moment was short lived however as the fae seemed to slip back into an agitated state. A look of pain sparked through his eyes as she snapped at him. Though it was followed quickly by an apology the male couldn't help but hear the words echo in his mind. When he spoke again his voice had grown low and quite, but there was no mistaking the force put behind his words. "We all want things we can't have Cairo...", he stated flatly. "...and half of everyone on this earth deserves better then they've gotten."
Feeling restless Dakota tried to head of his energy by walking in a few small circles. The fae had said that he didn't have to do anymore....but what was he supposed to do then, just walk away like nothing happened? The male's dark lips curled up some as he thought. Coming to a sudden halt he sat down again letting all the air rush out of his lungs in a single breath. Despite what Cairo had said earlier the situation was more frustrating then complicated and Dak wondered if it would form more into a difference of opinions as the conversation progressed. Stretching his maw to the heavens Dakota quietly watched the sky for a moment.
"This is your decision..", he said quietly, eyes still focused above. "I won't leave until you tell me to and I'll help in anyway I can....but you have to first make the choice for yourself. Thats one thing that I can't....won't do for you." Giving her a half smile he tried to make the words as light as possible. This wasn't how he envisioned the conversation going. Still he couldn't let his friendship with Cairo suffer by letting on that he just didn't have the right advice that she so desperately craved.

Slowly the ripples that had disrupted her reflection died out revealing the placid surface of the puddle once more. Cai looked deep into her own image now that it was uninterrupted by her inflicted set of ripples. It almost suprised her that she still appeared the same. Her eyes closed as Dakota's words seemed to dance about her mind. It was obvious that he was right. There was no need for her to seek out Bane to try to recieve answers that he might not give. Perhaps it was just who she was but the idea continued to plague her conciousness.
Easing back on her haunches, Cairo focused on Dak, his emerald optics sparkling the back towards the sky. He truly was trying everything he could to please her, help her through this traumatic experience. An overwhelming sense of gratitude filled her as she sat there watching him. Now it was out in the open, what had happened to her, and what should happen next. It was as if a weight had been lifted off her cream shoulders now that her and Dak had spoken. Yet still the unknown answers to her questions were brought to mind.
"I wish I could be happy with all this." Smiling, the former glow that used to always reside in her optics had returned. Something was haunting her though. "I know that everything you say you mean and I honestly believe it all. There's no need for me to seek this mascu out for answers I might not get. Or if I do get, I might not want to hear." Sighing she raised herself to pad closer to Dak. Standing beside him she nuzzled her head beneath his maw, into his neck.
In a sudden movement she pulled back and away from him, auds back in apology. "Dak, you're too good to me. But I have to find out why. Why he just left me all alone. I won't be able to focus on anything else until I know." Shaking her head, Cai thought of where the sociopath would be headed currently. Although she couldn't recall him ever saying, there was only one place a varg like him could belong. "I'll be back. Hopefully sooner than last time." Now she began to take off at a jog toward the border of the Deor lands. "I'm sorry Dakota. I have to. Tell Chalos... tell him I'm in the lands of the Balkar!"
Letting out a deep howl, saturated with emotions she announced to her pack that once again she was departing. This time she vowed to come back as soon as possible. Running full speed, the wind tore past Cairo, refreshing her from the long hard talk she had with Dakota. Now it was time to concentrate on surviving.
